I bought this as part of my recovery from ACL reconstruction, LCL repair and a partial meniscectomy. So lots of work done on my knee and lots of inflammation to deal with. I started using this about 1.5weeks after my surgery. Before that I was using a full wrap ice machine. I also have full wrap ice packs in the freezer. So I feel I have a good idea on what the different options are. If I'm at home my preference is to use the hyperice X or an ice pack from the freezer. Hyperice is loud when cooling, but it's always ready to go as long as I keep it charged. It can do 3x20min ice cycles at max cold temp. Which is more than enough for me. I usually charge it after 2. Now I still do use my normal ice packs because sometimes it's more convenient depending on where I'm at. However for traveling anywhere, the only option is the hyperice x or similar machine. Now what I do not use anymore is my full ice machine. It is cooler on wheels with a timer and you have to drain and clean it periodically, and it just isn't convenient. I'm not really sure what's up with everybody's complaints on temperature, the hyperice x gets just as cold as either my ice packs or the ice machine. Now the caveat there is I cannot cover the hyperice, it needs good ventilation. So if I'm using it under my desk I need to have 4-5" of clearance or else it doesn't get as cold and you can feel the air from the fans getting warming. However, uncovered it's just noisy. Similar to a small dust buster vacuum. This is for cold only, heat is dead quiet. One thing I haven't tried out too much so far is the contrast therapy, because I'm still not 6weeks out from my surgery. I have fired it up once or twice though. It feels very nice and is an option that nothing other than similar machines can touch. The battery does drop fast with contrast though. You can usually do one 30min contrast session and part of another if you said cold and hot temps that are near the min/max available. Once again not really a problem for me as I'm fine charging between sessions or even using it while plugged in. So biggest down side to the machine is the custom charging adapter. I really wish it was USB C, but instead its a custom 9V/6A block. Battery life could be better, but it would weigh more and cooling and heating takes a lot of power. So I think they made the right trade off (on the battery at least). Another downside was lack of case, but I picked up a shoe bag using in luggage and it fit the hyperice and charger just fine. This is absolutely a luxury item at its current price, but it's worth it for my recovery. I plan on taking it to work and using it in the middle of the day to keep up with knee swelling. Also I plan on taking it on long road trips. It can keep my knee happy and I can charge it via inverter or power bank with ac out. Currently I'm using it while working from home, I can just quickly grab it anytime w/o having to crutch myself to the freezer and back.

I bought this to recover from a total knee replacement. I’ve had multiple scopes, rotator-cuff surgeries, and other ortho procedures, and I’m done dragging around a cryo cuff with ice and water—too loud, messy, and awkward post-op. Enter the Hyperice X Knee. I wanted an occasional alternative to the ice machine, but it’s better than expected. It’s easy to turn on, cools quickly, and holds a precise, consistent temperature—never froze my incision—and I could keep it on longer without discomfort. Battery life beat my expectations, and the extra-long power cord made it easy to move around the house. The iOS app is handy and kind of cool: you can set temperature and run a Cold Therapy routine up to 20 minutes. You can’t run it indefinitely—understandable for safety reasons—but at night I can skip the app and press a couple of buttons on the device to start a 15-minute cold session. Super convenient for middle-of-the-night relief. Since getting it, I haven’t used my old ice machine once. Bottom line: for post-surgery recovery, this has been a surprisingly perfect solution even though that’s not its primary marketing angle. I’m using it as I write this and couldn’t recommend it more. Pros Easy to turn on; app optional Consistent, controlled cooling (no over-icing) Quiet and portable; no ice or water to juggle Better-than-expected battery life Long power cable = easy to move around App routines up to 20 minutes Cons Can’t run indefinitely (safety limit) Pricey—but it replaced my ice machine entirely TL;DR If you’re recovering from knee surgery and hate dealing with an ice bucket system, this is worth it. Precise, quiet, portable, and genuinely helpful.

I upgraded from the compression boots to this. I had ran a marathon 2 weeks ago and was experiencing some rad pain in my left knee. I was pushing through my runs when my pain came across when running. I got this device and let me say it has erased my pain within less then 5 hours of having it. The two biggest things I love are the temperature contrast therapy, and the battery life. Shorten your sessions to 15 mins and don’t do the highest or lowest temperature and you will get the most use out of the two. It’s a great device I absolutely recommend for high intensity athletes this is a GAME CHANGER. and so are the compression boots they have! also not so sure about the other knee knee brace they have that’s higher in price but this has been sufficient for me!

....and that's - get hot and cold. Contrast hydrotherapy is a simple yet effective way to speed up healing and improve circulation to the affected area. The problem is, it's a nuisance to apply a heating pad, then a cold pack, then a heating pad, etc. This unit does it for you, thus making it much more likely that you'll actually do it. It gets cold but I wish it got a bit colder. It gets very hot, hotter than I need (but it's adjustable, so not a problem) The quality is very good, it's easy to use, and the app is simple. I'm very happy with it. I use mine everyday and it's great.

I primarily use this product to ice my knee and had high hopes for its performance, especially for travel trips. While it provides effective cold therapy to the areas around the circular fans, the battery life is a major letdown. It only lasts about two rounds of 15 minutes before needing a recharge, which severely limits its practicality. As a long-time user of Hyperice products, I expected more for the premium price. Unfortunately, the short battery life diminishes its overall value and utility.
