Weatherproof, Dependable Power Over Distance – Perfect for Outdoor Security Setups
I bought this 10-metre ACOCOBUY USB C power extension cable with one very specific goal: to power several outdoor security cameras that run 24/7, rain or shine, without needing battery changes or frequent manual attention. Over the past few months of use, I can confidently say this cable has lived up to the task in every way that matters. Through torrential rain, heavy sleet, freezing fog, and more than one snowstorm, the cable has remained stable, solid, and absolutely dependable. From the start, I was cautiously optimistic. USB extension cables that are this long often suffer from one big flaw: voltage drop. Especially at 10 metres, you’d expect some degradation in performance, especially with power-hungry devices. But this cable delivered consistent results when paired with my outdoor security cameras. I used it with a standard 5V 2A USB plug adapter and the feed remained constant without flicker, dropouts, or intermittent cut-outs. That alone makes it worth the price several times over. I didn’t expect this kind of stability at such a low price point, especially when using it with weather-exposed equipment. The cable was first tested with a Mi Smart Camera C301 mounted to an external brick wall. Installation was easy. It comes with 10 nail-in clips which helped me route the cable neatly along the wall and around a gutter. The cable jacket itself is a thick, black PVC that feels surprisingly premium. It’s not overly stiff, which made routing it around corners and bends simple, but it’s not so soft that I ever worried about it breaking down from UV or moisture exposure. It feels right in the middle—flexible yet tough. For an outdoor installation, that balance is essential. When snow hit a few weeks later, I checked the cable and found no stiffness, cracks, or brittleness. The insulation did not stiffen or harden, which speaks volumes about the quality of the outer material.Using it with a second camera—a Mi C400 placed under the eaves of my garden shed—I noticed no difference in charging performance compared to the shorter stock cable. This was perhaps the most surprising part. With cheaper cables, you might see slower power delivery or even total device shutdown in cold or wet conditions. But in this case, the C400 stayed online through a full week of below-zero temperatures without needing a reset or hard reboot. That is a testament to both the consistency of the current and the integrity of the cable build.A few more technical details that might interest people: this cable is not meant for data transfer or fast charging. It’s power-only, and it does not support protocols like USB-PD or Quick Charge. If you're hoping to use it for a phone, tablet, or anything other than a camera or similarly low-power device, you're going to be disappointed. The amperage capacity is sufficient for security cameras and comparable equipment, but that’s where the line is drawn. It’s not designed for powering or charging laptops, gaming devices, or phones. And that’s okay. It’s built for a specific use case, and in that use case, it excels. The cable's internal conductors are quite thin, which naturally results in voltage drop the longer the distance and the heavier the draw. But for devices pulling low current, like most modern USB-C security cameras, the power delivery remains within acceptable tolerances. That’s where this cable really shines. You get 10 metres of stable, low-voltage current that keeps a camera online for weeks on end with no babysitting. If you’ve ever had to climb a ladder in the middle of winter to reset a frozen device or swap batteries, you’ll immediately appreciate this.I also tested it with an EZVIZ C6C indoor/outdoor cam placed under a porch roof. This cam has a slightly different power profile than the Xiaomi models, but the cable handled it fine. No flicker, no disconnection, even during a thunderstorm. I routed the cable through a window frame, out along a timber beam, and down the wall to the plug. The whole length of cable was fully exposed to wind and moisture. Still no issues. I also appreciate that the connectors—both the USB-A and the USB-C ends—feel tight and well moulded. They click into place with a reassuring fit and don’t wiggle loose. When installing a permanent outdoor device, that tactile feedback means everything. To really put it through its paces, I tried connecting three different brands of power adapters with varying outputs: Anker, UGREEN, and a generic one from Tesco. The cable delivered a consistent performance with all three, but I noticed the Anker adapter (5V 2.4A) gave the cleanest, most stable output with zero evidence of voltage sag. I’d definitely recommend using a good-quality adapter with this cable—don’t pair it with a no-name plug expecting great results. The cable is strong, but it still relies on stable input. After more than two months of constant outdoor use, the cable is still performing like new. The black sheath shows no signs of fading or UV damage, and I haven't noticed any fraying, stretching, or connector wear. In fact, it looks and behaves as it did on day one. For peace of mind, I even did a full wipe-down and dry inspection during a maintenance check and saw absolutely no water ingress or mould developing near the connection points. This is not something I can say for every USB cable I’ve used outdoors. In total, I’ve now used three of these ACOCOBUY 10M USB C cables across multiple locations. One for the shed cam, one for the front door camera, and a third for a test install behind the garage. Each time, the cable made it possible to locate the camera exactly where I wanted, without having to reposition due to limited wire length. The flexibility of placement alone has been a game-changer. Previously, I had to run extension cords or hide power banks in awkward waterproof boxes just to get the right camera angles. This cable eliminated that entire headache. It’s worth mentioning too that the included cable clips are a thoughtful addition. They’re not amazing quality—don’t expect premium fittings—but they’re good enough for a neat install. I did buy a few extras from Screwfix just for better anchoring on rougher surfaces, but the included clips got me 80% of the way there. For people with soffits, wooden fences, or masonry walls, the clips make installation far simpler and quicker. There is one minor issue worth noting, and I only say this to be transparent. While this cable works flawlessly for cameras and low-power devices, I would not recommend trying to power anything that requires sustained high current draw. Devices like USB heaters, larger LED panels, or even Raspberry Pi setups might struggle if placed at the far end of this 10-metre run. There’s simply not enough voltage left at the receiving end once the cable’s internal resistance takes its toll. This is not a flaw—it’s just physics. The cable is correctly specced for what it’s designed to do. But I wouldn’t push it past its intended use case.Price-wise, I think this is phenomenal value. At just under £11 for 10 metres, that breaks down to barely £1 per metre, and you get a robust, weatherproof, and plug-and-play ready cable that can remain permanently installed outdoors. You could easily pay twice as much for a branded cable with similar specs. Considering this one has survived downpours and sub-zero temperatures without so much as a flicker, I honestly don’t see why you’d need to spend more.Another underrated benefit: it reduces ladder work and camera downtime. Once installed, the camera just works—day in, day out. No more dismounting to recharge batteries or adjusting wobbly solar panels. Just uninterrupted footage. In security, that kind of consistency is everything. Whether you’re covering your front door, driveway, back garden, or even a side alley, you want your camera online 24/7. This cable makes that happen. What about long-term use? Well, based on current performance, I have every confidence this cable will keep working for years. The build quality feels solid enough, the connection points don’t corrode in the rain, and the sheath remains pliable yet sturdy. I’m planning to buy at least two more for an upcoming garage expansion project—one to power an external motion sensor camera, and another to run a cam above the new gate. I’ve tested dozens of USB cables over the years, and very few leave me genuinely impressed. This one does.My overall conclusion is simple: if you need a power extension solution for a USB-C security camera—and you want one that works outdoors, survives harsh weather, doesn’t break the bank, and installs easily—then this is the cable to get. I’ve pushed it in real-world conditions and seen how it performs over time. It delivers. For DIY security enthusiasts, homeowners setting up a smart surveillance system, or even small businesses with exterior cams, this cable is a must-have. No gimmicks, no complications—just solid, weatherproof power. Highly recommended.

Doesn’t work for higher amp hungry kit
The cable itself seems of good quality, I needed a longer cable for a Reolink camera that operates at 5v.Sadly, this cable does it provide enough power for the camera to startup correctly, swapping back to a shorter cable (with the same USB adapter) allows it to work again but at a much shorter distance.

Suitable for low power devices only NOT a phone charger or data cable
USB C Power Cable 10M, Power Extension Cable USB C Charging Cord for MiThe listing states that this cable:does not support data transfer or fast chargingis NOT fit for devices other than security camerawhich is fair enough.Using the cable for something other than a cameraIt can be used as a power cable for other things, but the amperage must be low. Because this is a long cable, and the internal cables are thin, there is a big voltage drop between In (USB-A) and Out (USB-C). The higher the current drawn the bigger the voltage drop.I hadn't got a security camera to try it on, so I did a current load test insteadSupply was from a 5v charger rated at 2+Amps, with an output voltage reading of 5.1VThe voltage reading below is at the output of the load meter. (The meter uses a bit of current for itself, so that is why the 0A voltage is less than the 5.1V at the supply).Current drawn Output voltage0A (no load) 4.88V0.2A (200mA) 4.65V0.51A (510mA) 4.27vAs can be seen, at a current of around 0.5A, there was a big voltage drop. 5V equipment may have already started to malfunction or turned off by this stage.I'm not sure how much current a security camera uses but, unless it's very low, the voltage drop may be enough to have some effect. If you have a very low powered piece of equipment that doesn't use more than 200mA and can still operate at 4.65V, then this cable may be of some use to you.Theoretically, you may still be able to use it to slow charge a phone, but it could well be very slow charging, if it charges at all - a bit like connecting it to a PC USB2 port.As I am rating this based on what the listing says it is for (a security camera), then I must assume that the current available is enough to power the camera.
