Fantastic game! Even better with 3D effect on!
This is a fantastic game! Although it is kinda linear just like a regular 2D Mario game, the 3D space and movement make it great! There's lots of levels to explore and plenty of secrets to look for. Most importantly, this game makes great use of the 3D effect of the 3DS systems. Several levels are designed in such a way that the depth illusion that comes with the 3D effect allows you to find secrets much faster than without it. Even though it is perfectly playable in 2D, I would highly recommend switching on the 3D effect if your system supports it. Haven't finished the game yet, but I'm loving it more the more I play it :D

The missing link between World and 64
A colorful, beautiful Mario adventure, and one that mixes old and new. The Tanooki suit returns, along with Fire Flower Mario from the old NES Super Mario, but mixed in are only *some* moves from Mario 64, Galaxy, Odyssey, etc - there is no triple jump or crouch jump, like Mario has had since 64. But there is a crouch, a long jump, wall jump, and from Odyssey, when Mario crouches, he can roll around very quickly. Additionally, you can hold & freely switch between two items (like Tanooki leaf and Fire Flower), just like you could in Super Mario World for SNES. Nintendo really mixed and matched items, moves, and enemies from multiple previous games, and it really works well! Tanooki Mario in 3D is just a blast to play as, and it's great to see Fire Mario return. While the game doesn't break new ground, the mixing of old and new features from 30+ years of Mario is a REALLY fun time and a totally unique experience. Now that the game is one of "Nintendo Selects", there's no reason NOT to get this after the price drop. Whether you're new to the Mario series, or a veteran, there really is something here for everyone

Good challenge, lots of content, and great for the nostalgia
[MINOR SPOILERS] With most of the Mario titles in the past decade, I've always been disappointed to smash my way through them in under a week without having faced any real difficulty at any point in the game. Mario 3D Land turns this on its head at the last minute. Upon defeating Bowser at the end of your standard round of 8 worlds, the game unlocks a new character and a new set of 8 more worlds that are all exceptionally challenging. The second set of worlds gets *NINTENDO HARD* at some points, and even the most experienced player will find themselves burning through dozens of lives on the same stage. The main difference is that there's no real punishment for failure because extra lives are near-unlimited and ridiculously easy to come by. Despite that, at the end of the day the sudden uptick in difficulty is just one of the many ways that Mario 3D Land honors and makes references to its roots. It borrows powerups, stages, tropes, enemies, and music from all throughout the series and ultimately makes this into one that was meant to appeal to the most longtime of fans.

Solid mario gameplay.
The game is a fun entry in the Mario universe, featuring 3d gameplay that doesnt quite feel as liberated as something like Mario 64, but certainly far more than something like New Super Mario Bros. It has the classic feel of most mario games and is a solid game to own for the handheld, especially at the cheap price point.

Was brand new
It came in a new package, and felt like I just bought it from a store. No problems with the game.
