The "wood" is obviously some cheap, low-quality laminate and in the pair I received wasn't purple at all. No tinge or spots- no purple at all, which was mildly frustrating as this was an important selling feature for me, personally. The sound was fairly underwhelming as well: the lows were fairly recessed, mids were warm but perhaps a little too warm, and the highs lacked clarity and were shrill- even after ample burn-in. I found myself EQing to compensate and that's never a good sign with earphones at this price point. There are many other better choices for considerably less money than these.
