Practical and durable
Love love love this carrier. I waited until I had used it a few times to write a review because I was somewhat afraid it would be flimsy and not hold up to airline travel, but this is the best carrier I've ever owned. I got it for my wee dog to replace a medium size Sherpa we had before, and it's better for a number of reasons:1) Tapered top - The shape of the carrier gives my dog more head room than the Sherpa did, but because it's sort of triangular it can actually go under your arm. This makes it easier to carry and gives my dog more head room. It also means that when you pick the carrier up by the top handle, it keeps its shape and the dog isn't suddenly smushed as the fabric pulls inward on the sides.2) Backpack straps - Need I elaborate? I don't know why all carriers don't have them. This is the reason I bought this carrier in the first place.3) Suitcase strap - The strap to go over my rolling suitcase's telescoping handle is small & firm so the carrier doesn't move around or sag forward like the others I've had in the past did. That means the floor also stays flat (mostly) and in place on top of the suitcase, so my dog is still comfortable up there. You could also use this to buckle the carrier into a car seat with a seatbelt and it would stay pretty solidly in place, I imagine.4) Overall frame - The frame is sturdy but very flexible, making it much easier than other carriers to put under the seat. This also makes boarding and disembarking a lot more pleasant for your pet, because you don't have to tilt the carrier to put it under the seat.I was concerned at first that the smaller footprint would mean my dog would be uncomfortable, but this is going to be up to your pet's personality. Mine likes to sleep laying against something so she doesn't seem to miss the wider Sherpa space in the slightest. Your pet's mileage may vary. Aside from this, this has a lot of other advantages over the boxy Sherpa-style carriers that make it more practical, mostly the more flexible frame and more practical shape. Other thinner & wire-framed carriers can have these advantages, but this carrier in particular does it better than the other ones I've tried-- mostly, I think, because of the less boxy shape and more strategic placement of the straps.Overall this is a great carrier. I could put it under my arm, on my back, or on top of my rolling briefcase as necessary with ease and while keeping my dog comfortable & steady. She was happier, I was happier, this thing rocks.

An Excellent Backpack. My Cat Loved It !
This is an excellent, well-made bag. I used it to take my one-year-old cat hiking at the park. She loved it.The bag isn't tall enough for my cat to sit up in. But it is wide enough for her to turn around in. I can tell - since I can hear her mewing coming from either side of me - when we're out.The bag has a nice roll-up cover for the big window on one side. The opening of one end zippers down completely to the floor, while the other side stops about five inches short - to give your dog a window to peer out of. (I don't think cats will do this.)The bag is, overall, very well made. The materials are thick and durable; and the hardware is first rate. The carrier has soft sides and a rigid floor (to keep its shape). This makes the bag very lightweight and very comfortable to wear.On the downsides, the attachment points for the shoulder straps are way too far apart. I fixed this - by clipping the straps - to the ends of the fabric handle instead. This works great. The slide-able shoulder pads are also enormous and cumbersome - so I simply tossed `em. And everything was just peachy after that. There is a metal ring on the inside just above the big window. I assume this is for attaching a leash. But since I don't have a leash - with a clip on both ends (one for the bag - and another for my cat) - I didn't find this feature to be very useful. My cat really likes being toted around the park - a lot more than she likes being perambulated in the cat/small dog stroller that I also have.I think it probably reminds her of being a kitten - when her mother moved her about. I have to admit - carrying her - also made me feel like a mom again, as well.As a warning - it helps to have an extroverted personality when using this bag. "Look, mommy. There's a cat in that backpack."Finally, this bag also makes a nice pet carrier - for going to-and-from your destination. Enjoy.

Great for commuting with my 15pound dog
My adult pekingese is 15 lbs, 15 inches tall when standing on all fours, 20 inches from base of tail to nose tip, and about 7 inches wide. He fits snuggly in this bag as he curls up, but isn't comfy to stand or sit up - when he does his head hangs low. I took off 1star because of the lack of head room, but gave 4stars because 1)It's a backpack - I don't have to carry all the weight on one side of my body as I would with a duffle or sling bag. There needs to be more backpack style pet carriers. 2)Price is great. 3)While it lacks the portability of having wheels, I also don't have to worry aboutwheels digging into my back or belly when I do carry the bag. 4)Overall the bag seems sturdy and makes commuting with my dog easy.
