Fresh Food & Ancient Wisdom: Preparing Healthy & Balanced Meals For Your Dogs

I like the natural approach discussed in this book very much. The information about appropriate ingredients is sound and I find lots of inspiration in the recipes. I am not sure the ratio of meat to grain and vegetable is healthy for dogs as other, vets equally well versed and experienced in wholistic veterinary practice advocate for more meat and less carbohydrates. The matter of ratio is not an obstacle to me as one can easily change those. While I've found most of the recipes useful, I especially liked the ones for home made supplements. All in all great book, if overpriced for many a pet guardian.

Book very knowledgeable & offers views different from others as it includes Asian ways & Asian holistic ways of food prep.

Dr. Basko is a wonderful holistic Vet. This book is filled with wisdom and recipes to keep our dogs healthy and happy. How wonderful it is to be cooking for them and not feeding unkowns from cans or dried food that never seems to go bad so it makes me wonder what exactly is in it. For those of us who don't mind cooking for our pets this book is excellent. Makes it easier to understanding how to prepare a balanced healthy meal for our dogs. It has helped me immensely especially now as one of my little dogs is diagnosed with congestive heart disease and my other little dog is about to turn 15 needing even more diligence in feeding. I have been home cooking for years and my holistic vet recommended this book just recently. Love it! Highly recommend it.

Our dogs have eaten, for the most part, what we eat before the advent of commercial dog food. Dr. Basko's book guides us back to this in an organized way and with solid advice for foods that address the many ailments and circumstances that occur with our dogs, from young pups who have had a rough beginning to the older dog who has developed illnesses. The recipes are easy to follow and they have been instrumental in curing my dog of painful medical problems. I've been waiting for a book like this to come along and am so grateful for it. If you are wanting a healthier life for your dog, this book will help you get there.

Cercavo un manuale di facile utilizzo per nutrire meglio i miei cani (preparo solo cibo casalingo perché non mi fido degli alimenti industriali) con tanto di ricette, cibi consigliati e non ecc.Questo invece non corrisponde assolutamente alle mie aspettative e una specie di manuale d'iniziazione a teorie tipo Yin-Yang e filosofie orientali che consiglia di aggiungere nei cibi aglio, olio d'oliva, sale, avocado... che sono unanimemente sconsigliati (se non considerati tossici) da tutti i veterinari, oltre a integratori alimentari introvabili. Oltretutto il libro costa una fortuna!

I bought this from Amazon a good while ago but put it on the shelf as my dogs were doing well and I was to busy now! My son died awhile ago and Ive inherited his two dogs. One has an allergy. My old allergic dogs decided again what she’s eatings not safe. I’ve run out of options for her. The other one will be new territory. I’ve been talking to my vet and flipping through my stack of books to rediscover this book. I’m thrilled, it’s exactly what I need and makes perfect since. Her book suggestions are to close to what I want to avoid. I can even eat this books stuff if I want too! Tomorrow I go shopping and start cooking. I noticed a list of commercial foods to have on hand if it’s a bad day to cook too. How did I ever put this book in a pile to forget Ive no idea! It’s just one dogs 65# and a growing male teenager…the others only 18#. I’m really going to be cooking. The other 2 dogs and 3 cats…not sure physically I can do this for the whole thundering herd.
