history of the foot
The media could not be loaded. so I am reviewing the hardcover-Tips.1. This is a very tight book, break it in first2. I had not read a workplace version before. It’s difficult. If I can make a suggestion, don’t try to read it panel but panel. Study the art. Then read the captions and panels with the images in your head. It’s easier.Thoughts:1. The art without the captions or words tells the story. You don’t know the names or all the whys but you can understand what’s happening. It’s a testament to the art and actually a very cool way to go through the story.2. The emotions are well done, not exaggerated but forceful. Surprise, fear, righteous anger. It’s written on the faces.Notable charactersKitsuneKaraiKrangShredderRentTmntShredderCaseyAprilSummaryThe story of the origins of the foot clan. It’s told From three perspectives, a first hand view of historical events, reported historical events from a college professor, and first hand view of modern time period ninja turtles and friends.Tatsuo, who founds the clan, starts the story off being ambushed. He is injured and loses a foot. He his later carried from the battle by a woman. When he awakes, he gives the clan its name and symbol, with a bloody foot print he leaves behind shortly after having his foot regrown by magic. We learn as the story progresses it’s a demon kitsune$382&. Who has carried him from battle, restored his foot, and prolonged his life. Tatsuo becomes a mad conqueror from that point onward. Some of his men disagree with being in league with the demon, and attack him in a vulnerable state between doses of magical potions from kitsunehajfj that restore his youth. He falls in the fight. Kitsune curses the clan before fleeing. In the modern time, the professor who is teaching this history is approached by karai and tricked into meeting with the foot/shredder. Through shredders flashback we find that he is/suspected to be the reincarnation of tatsuo. The turtles try and fail to pursue the professor prior to the meeting but are able to plant a tracer on him.We also get acquainted with splinter and shredders former lives, Hamato Yoshiand Oroku Saki respectively. You see from the beginning of their introductions they are in conflict. With Saki/Shredder believing that Splinter/Yoshi has been elevated above his place in life (shredder being the son of one of the ninjas (Maji) that lead the clan.Saki/shredder is quick to place the blame’s of his shortcomings elsewhere and all the while the demon Kitsune observes him.Saki/shredder eventually comes into the possession of tatsuo’s book (with the help of kitsune) and like tatsuo comes to believe he is destined to become a conqueror. Maji sends ninjas to stop him, Saki kills then and at this point kitsune approaches him. While he is off balance in rage and consumed by tatsuos writings of destiny. Both feel betrayed by Maji and the clan.Saki begins to have nightmares of Maji killing him. Kitsune helps Saki remember his past life as tatsuo where that actually happened. Saki returns and kills his father Maji and Masato the other ruler of the clan. Blaming an assassin and swearing revenge. We learn kitsune and Saki steal krangs immortality potion and perform a new ritual. One that sees Saki kill himself to resurrect a stronger immortal version of himself. Which is how we come to find shredder in the same physical form he has been in before.

Condition was poorish, but that story/art tho.
I’m the biggest Turtle fan I know, and IDW’s current ongoing series is the absolute best thing Image to happen to the franchise in decades. Now I've only read the main series, but there have been several one shots that I haven’t gotten around to reading until last years Bebop and Rocksteady issue, which turned out to be 32 pages of nerdgasams so I've since vowed to catch myself up on the extra material. I've started with The Secret History of the Foot Clan because it promised to answer the more pressing questions about Shredder and this witch he suddenly has with him in the amazing City Fall arc. I never picked this up in single issues because I foolishly expected the entire story to take place in Feudal Japan, which could have been cool, but it’s not exactly what I like from the turtles. Thankfully this is an engaging Feudal Japan story and it’s and action packed Turtle adventure, with an amazing sci-fi twist that ties everything back together. Mateus Santolouco is absolutely amazing, best art for the turtles I've ever seen, not to mention the only reason he doesn't get the sole credit on the book is due to his not being able to speak English, this guy is the full package. Anyway if you just want a cool stand alone Turtle story, or if you are following IDW’s ongoing series you’ll enjoy this book either way. 5/5

Shredder's History
I've always enjoyed the TMNT after being initially hooked as a kid by the cartoon, and I only recently found how much more depth there is to the turtles mythology after reading a little of the first hardcover of the Eastman/Laird series and most of the current IDW series. But I've never known a whole lot about Shredder's background except that he and Splinter disagreed in a past life, Shredder murders Splinter and the turtles in their past life. This gives you a much more fleshed out story about the Foot clan as the title suggests, and Shredder's rise to power. To me it was very interesting. An added bonus was Mateus Santoluoco's art. I've been following him for a little while and seeing the previews for the book have made the wait for this one feel like an eternity. But I finally got to see it in print, and man, it looks good! I really like his stuff, he injects a lot of character into each turtle. Every page is just fun to look at and soak in. Also glad to see he's the artist on the main series now too! (as of vol. 6)So if you're a turtles fan, definitely pick this one up! I really enjoyed it!

Worth reading
The dialogue text is sometimes difficult to read when there’s a lot happening on one page. You may also feel lost at times because of all the old Japanese names. However the story and artwork are terrific and I’m glad I picked this issue up. Definitely worth it!

All Aces...
This is an untold back story and makes the current world of TMNT so much richer. IDW has been doing great things with the Turtles in their ongoing series and this is a perfect compliment to the main story. Don't be fooled by the title though, this isn't just Shredder and the Foot, this book contains plenty of Turtle action. The art works well here, it's dark, gritty, but still full of color, especially when the Turtles are concerned. So far this is one of my favorite volumes of IDW's Turtles.

Shredder's Vergangenheit
