Very Engaging and Great New Mechanics
If you came from the original Sleeping Gods, you will especially appreciate this new version. The more I think about it, the more I realize how great the new game mechanics are. I think the camping mechanic makes this game so much more playable. In the original game I felt like I had to be much more conservative about exploring because it would impact the end game timer, but now doing those one off explores is much more feasible, and the same goes for traveling. So there's more freedom in this game to explore and travel which makes it more fun, but also still challenging for example traveling with the plane can incur damage and spent fuel, and traveling on foot can incur damage when encountering treacherous terrain, in addition if you waste too much time then you will be forced to encounter more events which can also hurt you. I think there's a really nice balance here, the game's mechanics also feel rooted in common sense which makes them easy to learn. I think the mechanics are also more engaging, for example before when you visited a city you basically were going through several paragraphs in the story book, but now there's a "wandering explore" which gives you a poster style photo that makes this part of the game much more realistic and memorable. Also, in general the game is much more dynamic, for instance, in the last game I could exploit the same weapons/abilities/adventure cards, but now you are forced to rotate those which is more challenging, but also more realistic and requires more strategy. Definitely buy this game, have fun exploring, making hard choices, coming up with battle strategies, and building up your character abilities!!

Great game!
Open world games can be hit or miss...this is a hit. Great story and fun combat. The game can take hours to complete if you want to really go on a journey. It is a bit of a table hog so be advised.

Another fantastic Sleeping Gods game
This is a worthy successor to Sleeping Gods! There are some mechanical changes but the essence of the game is very similar. And while there are various references to the original game, Distant Skies stands just fine on its own without any knowledge of the original Sleeping Gods.My friends and I are 25 hours into this game and we love love love it. Some of the mechanics are much-needed refinements on the previous game (no more command tokens!), while some are just a different design direction with a different flavor (no money just resource tokens, randomized weapon cards, different combat round mechanics). There are fewer playable characters but the writing is still strong.Highly recommended.

Red Raven has my heart
Along with sleeping gods distant skies... Red Raven is one of my favorite publishers. Anything with Ryan or Malorie's name on it is something I take immediate interest in.Have you ever wanted to play a tactile video game? Because this is as close as you can get to it. The same fun feeling of gaining experience, New items, random plot points, fun story, and tons of exploration. I truly can't get enough of the sleeping gods universe. There's so much to explore and discover. If I had kids, I would 100% play this with them as it's such an unforgettable adventure. That being said I play this with my significant other and it's become a staple in our lives. We've spent countless hours exploring the first sleeping gods, the primeval Peril, and now distant skies. This may seem like a 'big box of kickstarter content'... But it's not. I've played a decent bit of those kind of games... The one's that promise so much content all in one box and you get a quarter in and... It's an insane amount of repetition. This does NOT have that experience. Sleeping Gods Distant Skies has a ton of content and it is all. Very. Unique.I can't recommend Red Raven Games and Sleeping Gods enough. If you even have a slight interest, pick it up. Also a great solo experience!
