I used this book in tech school in 2013. It’s now 11 years later and I still reference it. So much good info. If you want to teach yourself how to machine this is the book for you. If you want to brush up and a few techniques that you haven’t used in awhile, this is the book for you. Heck if you own any tools you need this book. It will teach you how to run a mill, lathe, how to sharpen drill bits the proper way, fly cut, thread, layout, etc…. and is just a lifelong reference that, to me, is easier to dig into than machinist handbook. Tons of formulas but is written in a very understandable/clear manner.

We used this throughout my 2 year machining class for conventional and CNC. i have 2 friends who were USN-MR [Machinery Repair] technicians. they both looked this book over and the accompanying project booklet and thought it was pretty good.

Good beginner text, definitely good for trade school if your class uses it. Teaches introductory skills about all aspects of machining - from measurement, planning, layout, and basic machining operations. Some moderate details. Won't make you an expert in any particular thing, but is not intended to. For example, they tell you about machining operations in CNC, and what things these machines can do that conventional machines can't, but it won't make you a CNC programmer. I got what I was expecting from this book - foundational skills that I need in my work, that no one had ever taught me - things they assume you know.
