Dig a Dinosaur birthday present for my son
A great father and son project. My son loves these kits. He really enjoys digging for the bones and putting the skeleton together once all the pieces are found. The rest of the kids at his birthday party all wanted to help. We will be getting them all dinosaurs to dig for Christmas. This is a big hit with kids.

I thought it would be better
We purchased this item for our children ages 3 and 5. They enjoyed digging out the bones and I was pleased that the plastic used to make the dinosaur bones was flexible and soft. Because of this there was no worry about damaging the "fossil" while digging it out. However the same soft plastic made it impossible to have the finished dinosaur stand up for display which was the main reason I bought the product. It was a fun, messy project that ended with poor results. I would say it was worth it if it was half the price or if you were doing it just for the excavation. If you are looking to have a cool dinosaur model afterwards, you might want to look else where. I wouldn't purchase it agian.

Entertaining toy for 5 year old Dino-maniac
My 5 year dino-manic son spent hours chipping, scraping, dusting the clay that entombs the Brachiosaurs fossil. Every bone find was a major event. Keep a spray water bottle to manage the dust from the plaster cast. The final fossil is not exactly stable, but the whole point of the toy is the digging. The finished dino looks realistic on his toy shelf.

This is amazing
Can't believe how addictive this became over Christmas. Bought for our 6 year old who got a bit bored within half an hour (is recommended for 8 years plus which is probably about right) so we offered to get rid of some of the dirt until we found a bone. Then couldn't put in down - basically spent every spare minute over Christmas going back to it and the excitement when a new bone came to light was brilliant! Many days of calming fun and at the end, a wonderful model to put together. We've ordered another one - great for zoning out and forgetting the troubles (and essential jobs) of the day!

These are good but you need patience
Wow, these are not dug out over night. Be prepared to work at it but it is worth it. Pretty messy too, I'd suggest laying down plenty of newspaper before becoming a palaeontologist. Great for kids who love dinosaurs but for younger ones, mums and dads will be the ones scraping and digging the plaster away to reveal the 'bones'.
