Does secure the door
Works well, within limitations of door jamb construction, to secure the door

I tested it. It works
I was sort of leary about this thing because I couldn't find any sort of real testing online. So I did it myself. I'm not a YouTuber or anything so I didn't film it, but I put it through some paces. I installed the latch which is pretty easy but might take some wiggling depending on your door. Basically it creates a wedge between the latch and the red locking mechanism. It worked on all my exterior doors on my house but none of the interiors. Take that for what you will. If the gap in between your door and frame is too wide, this won't work as well. I put it on and pull against the handle with all my might. No budge. I tried to jerk the door back and forth and still it wouldn't move. Then I went to the outside to try. I pushed against it with all of my 225 pound frame. It didn't give. I put my foot against it and pushed (I don't want to break my door if I can help it), and it held firm. Bottom line, if it will fit the door, it will hold for as long as the frame holds. An excellent addition to your travel bag for extra security.

Worked like a charm in Istanbul, Kiev, and Cabo san Lucas
I ordered this just a few days before leaving for a few weeks of travel. It comes in a very nice, "rip-stop-canvas" type carrying pouch that's small, thin, and deep red: thus, takes up next to no space in a suitcase, yet easily found when unpacking. As noted in the sales description of this device, it only works on doors that open in toward the room that you're seeking to make more secure. And yes, viewing the quick demo on You Tube will definitely aid the newcomer in understanding how this device works. I used it in a hotel in Instanbul, an "airbnb" flat in Ukraine, and a rented time-share in Cabo san Lucas. It worked fine in all of them. In fact, the biggest difficulty I had was using it in my own condo's door in Seattle. That's because the latter's door has very little "gap" between the edge of the door and that door's frame. As noted in the directions, if you can nudge a 25-cent coin between the door and its adjoining frame, then this Addalock (as in, of course "add-a-lock"), will work just fine. I'm a reasonably strong chap, and when I tried with some determination to open the door after installing the Addalock, I couldn't get the door to budge. That's not to say that a hefty guy, throwing himself at a normal house door a few times couldn't overcome the door. But that's a separate matter from whether the Addalock will keep the door latch itself from being opened. I found it provided added peace of mind. It's obvious that no hotel housekeeper is going to inadvertently enter your room when you've taken the few seconds to install the Addalock. I liked it enough that as soon as I returned home from my travels, I bought one for my girlfriend. It's worth noting that when I was shopping for hers, I discovered at least one outlet that offers 2 of these for only about 50% more than what several other retailers charge for just one. Given that it makes for a nifty little gift, I'd suggest finding the two-fer offer. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? It became apparent to me fairly quickly that if the frame next to the door handle is snug against a perpendicular wall, it's difficult to initially place the metal portion of the Addalock in place AND hold onto it whilst closing the door (thereafter easily adding the red "swage" piece). One obvious solution would be to add just a 1" or 2" long additional "L" or inward curved section to that metal piece, thus making it MUCH easier to hold onto during the brief installation process. But even as is, it's still a clever, and very satisfactory means of further securing yourself in a room when traveling . . .OR to improve your security at home, too!

Wonderful product for home protection
I'm a domestic abuse victim and have used Addalock for more than a decade. They were first sold on QVC. This is a better price and they've improved the product. Ways to use this: 1. KEEP YOUR EX OUT. If you have been a homemaker and get divorced your ex will probably have to co-sign for you to rent a place. They will give your ex a key to your home because he co-signed even if you have a restraining order. (It's perfectly legal although morally wrong and a loophole the law should fix.) If you find things missing or your cat terrorized when you come home, put these in the door. 2. KEEP YOUR NOSY LANDLORD OUT. I had a friend whose landlord kept going into her home while she was out. He terrorized her cats and she found things missing. Once she put these in the doors, it miraculously stopped. 3. HOTEL. These are perfect for putting in your hotel door so no one can disturb you while you're sleeping because we know the maids never read those DO NOT DISTURB signs on the door. 4. BREAK-INS. The way this works it can withstand a great deal of pressure, even someone trying to break down the door. I know. My ex tried kicking in the door and he couldn't. This is an inexpensive way to protect your safety and your home. If you have a rental, I recommend you change one of the locks in your home and use that door for going in and out, then putting these on all the other doors. It will give you much peace of mind and make you feel safe while you sleep. Although landlords are supposed to change locks between tenants they seldom do and the fact is strangers have keys to your home. Not to mention parking valets and anyone you've ever handed your keys to. This comes with two and they last forever. This makes the perfect gift for a single woman living alone.

I was pretty skeptical of this product but after purchasing it's actually works pretty well!
I was looking for a lock for a hotel room since my sister is traveling to India to work for a NGO. Since I knew she would be in a room a house, I wanted something small and portable that she could lock her door with. After much research, I found this addalock and at first I was very skeptical. However, I looked all over the Internet and couldn't find anything else except for the Traveler's Security Lock but that looked too bulky. Anyways, I decided to order this Addalock for her and I was pretty surprised when it came that it worked really well. The main thing that you need is a door that opens to the inside (this lock does you no good if the door opens outwards). The other main thing is that the gap between the door frame and the door itself is wide enough to slide the metal piece between it (most doors work that I've tried). I might not be explaining it well but it makes sense when you have the product. Overall it is very simple to use, you just put the metal strike plate in the striker part of the door, close the door and then use the red handle to slide into the metal strike plate on the door side. Once the red handle is engaged, the door is effectively locked. Now this little lock will not stop someone from kicking down the door but at least it will make a would be intruder try harder to get in and hopefully you can wake up in time. This little lock is definitely always going with me when I travel as it is so small and portable!

Good and Bad
I was looking for some extra security without having the expense of a security system. This had good ratings and seemed a good choice. It does work fairly well with the doors in my house though it's not always easy to hook quickly. Sometimes I have to work with it a little to get it locked in. I did find if I needed to unlatch it quickly it doesn't always do so. There was one time I could not get the door to open after unlatching it. It took way too long for it to finally open. I then realized if there was ever a fire in the house this could be the difference between life & death. I also realized, after having a medical emergency at work, if this had happened at home no one could have gotten in if I had not been able to get to the door. I have since stopped using it on one of the two doors. Guess it all depends on which safety level you are actually more concerned about. I definitely don't think it's a bad item. But after these 2 mishaps I am less concerned about the wrong person getting in and my being able to get out or the right person getting in.

Works well but make sure you can remove it in the pitch dark.
Works well to secure door, but practise removing it in the pitch dark/with yr eyes closed. You may have to in an emergency situation.

Will not suit any doors
The funny things is that everyone is trying to sell something. It is thick and large and won’t suit any doors. Not sure what it is intended purpose are. It is only when you pay that it says in the instructions “may not suit all doors”.

Works well!
Works quite well, easy to install and if you travel with it, it is small enough to fit in your carryon.
