A Mac User's Nightmare – Avoid at All Costs!
Crucial X9 Pro 4TB Portable SSD proved to be a disaster. Despite formatting to APFS, it’s persistently unreliable. Disk Utility couldn’t repair it, making it unusable for serious work or backup. Crucial’s customer support is non-existent. Their website offers little troubleshooting, and their service center is unresponsive. The phone numbers are inactive, making it impossible to reach anyone. Their firmware update tool requires a CD-ROM drive, which is inconvenient for M-series Apple Silicon Macs. Amazon customer service was equally frustrating. They insisted on a “certificate of defect” from Crucial’s unresponsive service center, which is unreasonable and impossible to obtain. With a 5-year warranty and service center numbers that don’t work or answer the phone, it’s ridiculous. I eventually got a refund after much back-and-forth. I strongly advise anyone considering this drive, especially Mac users, to avoid it at all costs. This experience has severely damaged my trust in Crucial.

Fatal Product Design Flaw
Speed issues aside I've something no one will warn you about. The Underbelly of the product is made of a rubber lid. In the pictures the top metal side is shown, but opposite is a rubber lid, not a rubber coated metal/plastic but molded out of a rubber block. In a couple of months the rubber will become gunky and oily, and you'll end up with a product whose one side is corrupted. The Serial Number and Barcode are printed on the rubber itself. So with the upper surface the codes will also get removed with time. I received a new 4 tb product with the rubber side gunky and sticky. After knocking my head around quite a while in the service center a good customer care guy from Amazon helped me return and get rid of it, Literally Dodged a Bullet. Didn't even use it, so I cant confirm on the speed. but BEWARE

Stopped work 3 days after purchase
This SSD stopped getting mounted on Mac 3 days after delivery. Amazon washed its hands off saying "7 days service center" replacement. Key word there is service center. Amazon won't replace. Now I am chasing Micron and hoping to get lucky. Feel dumb burning 25K for Crucial instead of Samsung.

Been using it for awhile, and it's great. Very very fast, very small, and when it's on sale it's a great price. Much better, faster and smaller than SanDisk or Samsung similar products

EDIT - this SSD has failed after one year of use. I would really recommend that you avoid it. I lost ten years of memories, photos, videos, documents. I knew I should've just stuck with Samsung. If anything you should buy the new Samsung T9, which isn't much more expensive ($50 or so). Buyer beware!!! I'll try to keep this short. I love, love, love this SSD. For anyone in Australia - it is cheaper to use an NVMe in an enclosure, but this is so great for the portability, size, quality, transfer speeds (very close to the rated speeds), look, feel and weatherproof-ness. It is so mini yet so powerful, I really do love it, and it's honestly my favourite, traditional, external SSD that I own - above the Samsung T7 Shield, T9 and the Kingston SSDs (all great products, but this Crucial wins). It arrived very quickly from the US - for anyone in AUS, it's worth getting the expedited shipping for $15 AUD or however much it is (it wasn't expensive). Delivered, at my door in Melbourne only one week after ordering it, by a courier. Anyway, can't recommend it highly enough. Just be sure to get it for a good price, if you can, although it is consistently above the $400 AUD mark, as of writing this (October 2024). Definitely worth it. You won't even believe that something this tiny is so powerful! It's insane, honestly. Final thing - I am using it for a mix of things, but mainly for media collection, and it does all of it without ever struggling, including reading/writing large amounts when editing my photos/videos in e.g. Lightroom etc. It does become warm to the touch when used for long periods, but given this comes with such a long warranty... I really hope that the stated quality and ruggedness match the performance in reality. I think they will.

Luckily, I didn't experience problems like some of the others might have experienced since I owned this product. The speed was top notch and the best thing about it is how small and light it is compare to some of the other brands. For the storage I do think Micron provides excellent value and would buy again.

If you’re tired of waiting around for sluggish external drives, this is the upgrade you’ve been looking for. The Crucial X9 Pro 4TB Portable SSD is an absolute monster in a tiny shell — I’m talking barely larger than a credit card yet capable of read speeds up to 1050MB/s. That’s fast enough to handle 4K video edits straight from the drive, transfer massive photo libraries in seconds, or back up your entire computer before your coffee gets cold. I’ve used mine for everything — video production, 3D modeling files, and even running virtual machines — and it hasn’t hiccuped once. The aluminum build feels premium and rugged without being bulky, and Crucial includes a high-quality USB-C cable that connects instantly to laptops, desktops, and even my iPad Pro. What stands out most is the consistency. Other SSDs promise speed, but the X9 Pro delivers it every single time. I’ve seen sustained transfers at 950MB/s for minutes straight — no throttling, no drama. If you value reliability, portability, and pure speed, the Crucial X9 Pro 4TB is worth every penny. It’s my new go-to drive for travel, creative work, and secure backups. This isn’t just another SSD — it’s a professional-grade powerhouse disguised as a pocket drive. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – 10/10, highly recommend to anyone who moves serious data and values their time.
