30 years since its release, Judas Priest reissue their 10th studio album Turbo in two stunning formats. This album is an essential part of the Judas Priest catalogue with ‘Turbo Lover’ being one of the most requested tracks for the band to perform live. Turbo 30 comes in a three CD package with the album fully remastered as well as the two CD live concert recorded in Kansas City during the band’s FUEL FOR LIFE World Tour. The new master also features on 180gram classic Black Vinyl. Originally recorded with the band's long term producer Tom Allom, this album marked a distinctive change in the band’s sound by the use of synthesized guitars but still keeping their classic Heavy Metal style that Judas Priest were synonymous with. Review: Great addition of legendary album! - This great value for collectors! Review: The Best - Really, excelent.

30 years ago the Turbo album sounded great. Fresh and exciting with insane guitar lead breaks
30 years ago the Turbo album sounded great. Fresh and exciting with insane guitar lead breaks. If only Reckless had been on Top Gun... The real reason for getting this is the live cds. I can't see the record company making an effort doing a "Priest Live 30" so a live concert has been included here. Not just any concert but the "vintage" King Biscuit where the live versions of Freewheel Burning and Desert Plains graced the Locked In 12" all those decades ago. Why has it taken so long to release this in full? It sounds great and is what Priest Live should have been.

Turbo makes 30 plus 1
Have to say I raised an eyebrow when I heard ‘Turbo’ was getting the deluxe treatment. After the excellent ’Screaming’ and ‘Defenders’ expanded packages I thought the Priest would look to other more deserving releases from their late 70’s / early 80’s purple patch. ‘British Steel’ with some of the officially unreleased live sets from the era (Denver and Long Island, from 1980), ‘Unleashed In The East’ (with ‘Evil Fantasies’ and ‘Beyond the Realms of Death’ from the bonus vinyl EPs and the fantastic live set available on ‘Concert Vault’ from the ‘Mudd Club’, New York 1979) and of course ‘Painkiller’ with audio and video from ‘Rock N Rio’ 1991, the full show from the ‘Foundations Forum’ in 1990 or the excellent ‘Irvine Meadows’ footage from the ‘Operation Rock N Roll tour’ would all seem more likely choices for the expanded treatment. As for this release I have to say its a missed opportunity. Would have been interesting to hear it in its original ‘Twin Turbos’ iteration, fleshed out with the offcuts that made up ‘Ram it Down’ and where are the infamous, long buried, Stock Aitken and Waterman demos ?! They would have made for an interesting ‘warts and all’ summation of the era. That said the live bonus concert from Kansas is a cracker and well worth the investment alone, especially when set against the official more refined live document from the following year. Theres no doubt that ‘Turbo’ was a brave but unsuccessful stab at the ‘Pop Metal’ market, largely inspired by the eye popping sales of lesser mortals such as Quiet Riot. It was only with ‘Painkiller’ that Priest refound their feet but the comeback was fleeting with the advent of Grunge derailing any remaining chance of a more sustained return to form. ’Turbo Lover’, Out In The Cold’ and possibly ‘Parental Guidance’ are the only tracks that would find their way onto any career spanning compilation by the band but if you are looking for some genuine dumb, mullet metal, mid eighties fun this hits the spot and then some.

I LIKE THE CHEESE
This album gets a lot of grief and I can understand it, especially when it was released. There was definitely an attempt here to go a bit hair metal - KK and Glenn needed to keep the money coming in and the Porsches serviced after all (they were both driving GT Turbos around this time, hence the name of the album). The synths were probably a bit of a shock. However, it's still Judas Priest and the songwriting and production are both on point for the era and sound they were going for in my opinion. I think if this album was by another band, it would get more love but as it is, it's from Judas Priest who have such a phenomenal catalogue of releases that it's seen as a bit of a black sheep (outside of the Ripper albums which they now ignore, for shame). I will reach for this album when I want to feel a bit 80s and it is a guilty pleasure but oh so good at the same time. I want to absolutely smash the place up (in a good way) when I hear the synth-tinged solo of 'Locked In' for instance, and 'Turbo Lover' is such an awesome opener (and the solo intro is a bit Pink Floyd before going full on metal 80s). The anniversary edition of the vinyl is quality too so now that we've had 30 years+ to get over the shock, I think we can all admit that this is a great, but certainly not perfect, album that deserves its place. JP themselves still tend to play at least one song off it on their tours in recent years (usually 'Out in the Cold' or 'Turbo Lover').

This is one of my favorite Judas Priest albums. I recently started collecting Vinyl as I enjoy the history of it, and like having to work for my music LOL no simple click of a button. It works fantastic and all the songs work perfectly, whilst sounding very clear as well. 5/5
