Milly is one of the truly great singers
*** 1/2 stars.Milly Quezada is hands down the best Latina singer working today. Technically she is peerless, and has few rivals emotively. She is incredibly versatile, and has the ability to truly inhabit a song's meaning.MQ really presents mostly just one aspect of Milly - the barn burning, gutteral, take the house down Milly. We don't see a lot of the versatiliy of her artistry. Therein lies the problem, there are a few too many songs that are alike - I would really like to see more variety here.Small complaint though, because the firestorm Milly is tremendous. There are six songs which I consider standouts, most principally because of great instrumental arrangements. Quiero Ser, Me Da Pena, Caro, Si me Amaras, Ole Y Ole, and Yo Soy Mujer y no soy una Santa. Some of these are most notable for great instrumental grooves,(Si me amaras. The best song is Yo no soy mujer..., here we get to hear Milly give one of her imitable vocal characaterizations, and the Mexican vibe is great.I don't care for Mala Palabra, and the tracks from 7-10 are not really distinguished songs, in my opinion. If thse last four tracks had been dropped in favor of some songs that show a different side of Milly's singing, this album would be a true standout, which unfortunately it is not quite. As it is, MQ is definitely worth having, any album by Milly Quezada is five stars compared to almost anyone else.
