Perfect companion of self compassion during your grief journey
My mother passed away in May of 2016 and I bought this coloring book shortly after. Coloring has been a very therapeutic self care hobby of mine for several years and I was very relieved to discover this book when I did.I have been very deliberately going through this coloring book and writing the journal entries with the additional guidance from my grief counselor. I have been on a grief journey filled with purpose and compassion. Going through this coloring book has been a profound and very healing experience for me!Part of my ritual when beginning a new page is I meditate on the word before starting. I then think of the word and what it means for me as I color the page to get a sense of how it fits into my grief path. I have also researched several of the words online to gain a deeper perspective of the word before beginning the journal entry. With the use of this, meditation and counseling, I’ve had a very profound grief journey that has been extremely therapeutic, self nurturing and (dare I say) enlightening and has been filled with emotion, inspiration and revelation. I truly can not recommend this book any higher. My therapist has now suggested this book for several of her clients going that are struggling through challenging times. The key for me has been to be deliberate and intentional with process. One of my challenges is impatience, so this has been a great exercise for my development in that area. Also, being compassionate with myself and understand that grief is a very personal journey and all emotions and stages are valid and natural. Lastly, I’ve learned to LEAN IN to the grief and each word on the page and don’t resist whatever emotions or thoughts arise. It is all natural and all needs to be felt. This is definitely an amazing tool for anyone going through a grief journey of any kind. I also think it is potential a great self discovery and self healing coloring journal generally speaking.

This is truly a book of healing. Coloring the designs is meditative. The one word that is within each illustration is a way to focus on one thought, one step, through a difficult time. I love that this is a "self-help" book without hundreds of pages of words, chapters of directions, "exercises". Nope. Simply color. Reflect. One page at a time. Enjoy. Heal.I am sending this book to friends who are working through sadness and loss. I'm also buying a few extras to have on hand. This book makes a lovely gift when you want to support a friend or loved one.

Blueprint for Healing
I received Colors of Loss and Healing in the mail a few days ago. This really is a unique adult coloring book. I suppose there are those who will work through the book and each word that Dr. Derman presents as a "healing blueprint" from front to back. At my stage in the healing process I was immediately attracted to the word and illustration for DETERMINATION. As I color in this page I think about DETERMINATION and what it means to me in my life. I wonder which word in Dr. Derman's blueprint for healing I will be attracted to next? I used verithin colored pencils and I love my Alvin Dux Pencil sharpener for coloring. A Wonderful Tool Kit to Help with the Grieving Process
I bought this book for myself ( It arrived in 1 day) and a close friend who has had her share of losses. I decided to purchase additional copies for friends who are grieving. I feel this book is a wonderful tool to help in working through grief issues. I even bought crayon boxes so they could color in the magnificent pictures.Dr Derman's introduction is heartfelt and honest. She seems to have a great handle on what it feels like to lose a loved one.Ms Braun's drawings are warm and thoughtful. So happy to have found this resource.

I gave this to a friend who lost her mother. It's a simple path to peace and healing. Don't need any art talent, just some time to reflect.

I have given numerous copies to those who have experienced the death of a loved one, always with very positive feedback
Colors of Loss and Healing provides a number of images, each with a centering word or phrase embedded, and amble space for writing, reflecting, creating. As a hospice chaplain, I have given numerous copies to those who have experienced the death of a loved one, always with very positive feedback. This book is an invitation to make space for healthy grieving, to allow a wide range of feelings to be expressed, and to take small, slow steps toward the pain of loss becoming grateful remembering.

Disappointed in adult coloring book
I am an avid colorer of adult coloring books and have purchased from several different publishers.Unfortunately I was very disappointed with this book. Too much blank space, not enough words communicating what it claims to communicate.I feel I paid too much for this book that appears to have been thrown together without much thought about the message it was supposed to convey..Oh how I wish I hadn't ordered it. Costs too much to return.

Calming
Today I received the book Colors of Loss and Healing by Dr. Debby Derman. What a beautiful, calming way to delve into one's feelings when experiencing a terrible tragedy in life. Reading a single, inspiring word on each page, while coloring at the same time, helps you to reflect upon your own thoughts and work towards healing. Debby's personal story let's you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
