Capricornone Design your own 3D Resin Domed Gel Tank Pad 70 Hexagon Decal set (Clear)

Hubby wanted something to protect his tank whilst using his magnetic tank bag on a trip to Italy. I looked at various different designs but none of them gave enough coverage in the right places. Despite the varying reviews I decided to take a punt on these as it only needed to stay in place for his trip.When the sheet of sticky pads arrived we were a bit perplexed on how to keep them in the tidy hexagonal pattern & maintain the equal spacing. Whilst taking the sheet out of its plastic bag, the hexagons were sticking to the plastic & starting to peel off the backing but this actually gave me the solution I needed.Before I started, hubby cleaned the tank to make sure it was spotless & grease free. I then carefully took the sheet of hexagons off the plastic, leaving them all stuck to the backing. I cut the backing between the hexagons to get the tank shape I needed & cut off any spare. I put the sheet of hexagons face down on the plastic bag so the backing sheet was face up & carefully peeled off the backing so the hexagons remained in their correct place but with the sticky side exposured. Between us, we then gently turned it over onto the tank , gave it a really good press down on each individual hexagon before very carefully peeling off the plastic. We then gave it another firm pressover with a clean microfibre cloth & all looked OK so we left it alone for a couple of hours to give the adhesive time to settle.Hubby rode his bike to Italy & back via a number of different countries over a 2 week roadtrip at the start of September covering almost 2.5K miles. He endured a mini heatwave followed by torrential downpours & the tank bag was on & off the bike every day.The pic is of the tank at a UK show a few weeks later & all of the hexagons have remained in place. We're now at 8 weeks & it's all still in tact.We made sure that all the hexagons we used were under the tank bag which meant they had equal pressure on them & there is no friction against them even when the bag is removed because of the riding position.Not convinced it would be all in place if the riding position was against the tank as the sideways movement & friction would likely dislodge some of the pads.

The only issue I have with this are 2 hexagons not sticking where my tank curves, even after applying with a hairdryer. The other have all stuck well.

These are good the only problem I found as someone else said they will only stick on the flat if you try to use them on the curved part they start to lift, even using a hairdryer first didn't work

I've used these a few times on various projects - always with excellent results.They WILL NOT CONFORM TO COMPLEX OR SHARP CURVES - they're too small and rigid for that, and not designed to do so. Heating them will make no difference.They'll stick to shallow profiles and obvs flat surfaces. Perfect for side cheeks on tanks, or larger panels that need some embellishment / protection.

Very pleased with these, put them on side of tank for protection, stuck firmly once in place but able to move if not in right place initially.Looks great.

Okay, but could do with a guide sheet on the front to keep the hexagons in position when mounting. They go all over the place!

Looks great on the bike - you can make your own design from these individual suckers. Easier than I thought it would be.
