Catholic Prayers

Catholic prayer book
This is a very nice handbook that you can easily fit into your bag or pocket. Has many of the prayers I grew up with but from lack of consistency have somehow forgotten some of the words. So this is nice to give you a refresher. Many new prayers as well to enhance your journey in getting closer to God. The book is quality made and not flimsy.

A Lovely Book
This is a lovely eBook, with an active table of contents and over 130 Catholic prayers. More importantly, it has the Nihil Obstat and Imprimature...i.e., which are the OFFICIAL, Catholic Church, declarations that a book or pamphlet is free from doctrinal, or moral error. In other words, while anyone can write or compose a book purporting to be a spiritual book, this has also been reviewed by Church authority and has been found to actually be free of doctrinal and moral error. This books Imprimatur is Rev. Msgr. David D. Kagan, J.C.L., Vicar General of Rockford, Illinois, dated 2007.If you are a Catholic you will most likely appreciate this little gem. However, if you are of a protestant denomination that believes that having a friendship with the angels and saints (as well as Christ) to be a form of idolatry, than you might want to look elsewhere. Some of the prayers that are to be found in this book are,The Our FatherHail MaryGlory Be to GodApostles CreedAct of Faith, Act of Hope, Act o f CharityAct of ContritionThe ConfiteorHail, Holy QueenThe MemorarePrayer After the RosaryPrayer to St. Michael, the ArchangelSacred Heart of JesusCome, Holy SpiritMorning OfferingAngel of GodGrace Before Meals, Grace After MealsEternal Rest GrantThe AngelusThe Regina CoeliO Sacrament Most HolyO My JesusJesus, Mary and JosephPrayer to the Infant JesusNovena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a favorite of Padre PioPour Forth Thy GraceNovena to Our Lady of Good RemedyPrayer to St. Joseph in a Difficult ProblemAn Ancient Prayer to St. JosephPrayer to St. Anne, Prayer to St. Jude, Prayer to St Anthony of PaduaMiraculous Prayer to the Little Flower of JesusNovena to St PhilomenaPrayer to St Rita, Prayer to St Martin de PorresPrayer to St Gertrude The GreatPrayer to the Angels for a special favorPrayer to Our Lady of Mt CarmelDaily Consecration to the Holy SpiritAnother Morning OfferingPrayer to St Ignatius of LoyolaAct of OblationPrayer to Mary, Mother Of Good CounselBlessed Be The HourChaplet of Divine MercyNovena to the Sacred HeartPrayer to ones Patron SaintPrayer to St Francis of AssisiPrayer to Christ The KingAct of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of JesusAct of Reparation to JesusThe MagnificantThe Te DeumMorning Prayers include....Act of Faith in the Presence of God, Act of Adoration and Thanksgiving to God, An Act of Faith, An Act of Hope, An Act of Charity, An Act of ContritionEvening Prayers include.....Anima Christi, The Divine Praises, Prayer Before a Crucifix, The Five Fatima Prayers, The Pardon Prayer, The Angels Prayer, Blessed Sacrament Prayer, O My Jesus PrayerAlso included...How to Pray the Rosary, The Mysteries of the Rosary, Prayer After the Rosary, Prayer for the Seven Gifts of The Holy Spirit, Prayer for Direction in the choice of ones life, Prayer for Priests, Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Prayer to Our Lady for Mental Peace, Night Prayer for Daily Neglects, Prayer for Detachment from earthly goods, Prayer for Purity, Prayer to Overcome sloth and lukewarmness, Prayer to Overcome Bad Habits, Prayer to Overcome Vice, Prayer Against Evil Thoughts, Prayer for Grace, Prayer for a Happy Death, Prayer for Acceptance of Death, Prayer for Those in Agony, Prayer to Our Lord On The Cross for a Happy Hour of Death, Prayer for the Dead, Prayer to St Peregrine to cure cancer, Prayer to St Gerard for motherhood, Prayer to St Gerard in thanksgiving of a safe delivery, Prayer to St Dymphna patroness of those with mental and nervous disorders, Novena to The Infant Jesus of Prague, Prayer for a Sick Person for Health of body and soul, Prayer in Time of Sickness, Prayer to St Maria Goretti for help in purity and holiness, Prayer to St John Bosco, Prayer to St Anthony Mary Claret, Prayer to St Raphael the Archangel for a cure, Prayer to St Raphael for a wise choice of a marriage partner, Prayer to St Raphael for Purity, Prayer to Our Sorrowful Mother, Prayer for a Person who is seriously ill, Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Prayer to Our Mother of Perpetual Help for the conversion of a sinner, Deliver Us From Evil Prayer

I use this book every day!
The book I have is not the leather bound version that some of the reviewers have talked about but rather the one with the picture of Mary on the cover surrounded by blue. I really like this short book and use it every day. If you are a more traditionally minded Catholic you will probably like/love it. It is published by Tan Books so many of the prayers are very traditional. I like that fact but have to admit that some of the language is very old fashioned and for me, it just doesn't click. There are many older English words such as "Do thou henceforth; Vouchsafe, Doth, Dost, Mayest, etc" that make some of the prayers sound very odd for me. I'm weird I guess because I will use the Older English (thee, thou, thy) with the Our Father and the Hail Mary and even the Hail Holy Queen prayers, probably because I was formed with them and they sound "right" to me. But for some of the other prayers I will change some of the wording around to make it sound more normal to my ears. So instead of saying, for example, "Vouchsafe, O Lord", I will say, "Grant O Lord" or something like that--same meaning, just more normal words that speak to my heart more. Anyway, I hope that helps. I have found prayers in here that have really helped me. I love it!

This one covers all the bases in a more traditional wording with a great keepsake design
I think the leatherette cover is very pretty. It isn't as thick as I expected, but so long as it remains durable that's what matters. And that answer will only come with time. The color looks very neutral chocolate brown, but mine looks a little more reddish brown in person if that matters to anyone. The binding feels good and strong, but not stiff and brittle. It should break in nicely with use. I also appreciate the ribbon marker.I do love the pretty fonts used. The text isn't centered very well between the top and bottom of the pages. It's not like they needed space only for one more line to finish a paragraph or sentence. Inconsistent bottom margins bother me. And what's with wasting half of the page in table of contents or new sections? I know it's a small matter but it does bug me.As for content, the prayers are worded more traditionally in my opinion. This was important for me because I was trying to find a prayer book my young daughter could reference while learning these prayers. I wanted to be consistent between the wording her Catechism teachers use and what we use at home to help her learn better. They are not word for word identical to what she's being taught, but it's the closest I found. I wish Amazon was more consistent for providing thorough previews for books such as these for that very reason. It would save a lot of hassle trying to find the perfect sacramental gift.If you're looking for a book that will help teaching the rosary, this book also includes the basics of that, but it doesn't give much depth. This is a well-rounded collection of prayers.
