Perfect for fat balls!
The media could not be loaded. Brilliant quality, very heavy duty and well made - best thing is, this has foiled the magpies that were guarding the feeders and scaring away the little birds! I’ve used it for fat balls rather than peanuts as the magpies managed to get their heads into the squirrel proof fat ball feeder. Large top opening so fat balls fit easily, and little birds can easily fit their beaks in the smaller holes of the inner cage to feed in peace. Brilliant!

Holes too big
This is a very sturdy feeder but a total waste of moneyWithin 30mins of filling it the food was gone and all over the floor. The holes are to big so food falls out and the birds throw it all on the floor

A great feeder for sunflower hearts
First, I now own 4 of these feeders because I get a lot of goldfinches in my garden. So I think I can comment confidently about the pros and cons.Cons first:1) A bit fiddly to clean because you have to unscrew the bottom two perches in order to remove the base. Honestly though, it only takes a minute.2) The feeding holes are large enough for rain to get into when the weather is really bad. Not a lot, but the sunflowers go funny if you don't clean and dry the inside after heavy rain. If we get a week of rain I clean the feeders every couple of days.3) The twist-off lids come quite loose. I've dropped a container full because the lid slipped off. When I buy a new one, I flatten the slots in the lid down a bit to make it a tighter fit.I don't want to make them seem a pain but I did want to point out the things I have found a bit of a nuisance.Pros:1) The lids are wide enough that most rain is kept off of the cylinder with the feeding holes.2) Once you take the bottom perches off, the feeder is easy to clean, especially with a bottle brush3) They are sturdy. My feeding station has been blown over multiple times and the feeders survived4) Goldfinches love feeding from them. Chaffinches and bluetits too.. Oh, and even the occasional starling and robin use them too.5) Perches are a great size for finches and tits while being unusable by pigeons and other large birds.I have a constant stream of birds at these feeders, which is why I replaced a couple of seed feeders with two more of these feeders recently. I am sure your birds will appreciate them, wherever you live.

Defeats starlings!
Very happy to report that starlings are thwarted effectively by this feeder, with smaller birds like blue and great tits enjoying their food.Edit and star review down to 1. After a couple of weeks the starlings worked it out. The bottom fat balls are closer to the outer cage than the sides. The starlings simply put their heads through the bottom of the cage and devour the entire contents in a day.I’m experimenting with putting a plastic shield on the underneath.
