A great variation of burning tips

I don't know anything about woodburning, but one of my teens follows a TikToker who does it, and she wanted to give it a try. There are hardly any instructions included with this kit, despite it being labeled "for beginners" -- but by watching the aforementioned TikToker and some YouTube videos, we started to figure it out. I'm supervising my kid closely because obviously this is very hot and potentially dangerous, but overall it seems safe to use (however, my kid will continue to need supervision). The inclusion of little pieces of wood and especially tiny gourds is a bit weird -- sort of awkward to use this on a curved surface as a newbie. Instead, we used some dollar store wood decor items with a larger, flat area to practice on. There are a bunch of sheets of plastic stencils included, and I had to warn the kid that touching these with the woodburning pen wouldn't be smart! I'm not sure that we'll ever use them. Something that would've been super handy to include would be a sheet that demonstrates what effect each of the tips has. It's going to take some trial and error for us to figure that out for ourselves.

This is good for someone that is learning to do wood burning. It is easy to use and adjust the temperature. It comes with several tips. I think it works best for outlines. I can make fine lines with the small tips. The filling in of larger areas is something I haven’t figured out how to do smoothly. I think that is mostly me not knowing the technique, not the actual tool. It can get very hot. I would not recommend it for anyone that can’t use caution with a very hot tool. The holder has mostly protected my hand, but if you use for an extended amount of time the handle can start getting hot. Overall I have had a great time using it and I really like how my project turned out.

We have been wanting to get into wood burning art because we already do some woodworking as well as leather crafts, and have been looking to try ways of adding more detail.This is a comprehensive kit made for the beginner but useful for all skill levels! The variety of elements can’t be beat.

This woodburning pen heats quickly to very high temperatures and the different tips screw on and off securely for safety. It comes with no instructions, so it might not be great for a beginner. The rubberized handle of the pen is comfortable, and the base includes a place to put it so that it can be safely used without damaging whatever surface you put it on. A variety of tips is included, but without any images or indication of what they will look like when they are used. You can practice on the two included wooden squares, but those have a pronounced grain, so it can be difficult to make curved shapes that have a continuous coloration. The kit comes with two tiny gourds that are pretty cute and easy to decorate, but they are very small and unless you have a small clamp on your workbench, you will need to hold these in your hand to keep them from moving while you burn a decoration on them. This also would not be ideal for a young person or a beginner who is not used to safely handling very hot tools. The base has a dial to set the temperature, and it toggles through some different numbers on the display, which I am assuming are degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit, but the instructions regarding this or not included, nor the proper temperatures to decorate different types of substances. This is a useful and functional tool that is fun to use if you know how to do so properly, but this can also be a dangerous tool if not used correctly and it should always be used with adult supervision. The holder has a spot for a sponge, which is included, which should be dampened and used to clean the tip when it gets too dirty. This would be a good gift for someone who has some familiarity with safety and is interested in using a woodburning tool that works like a small soldering pen.
