Milk and Honey Audio CD – CD, 6 Sept. 2016

I'm not easily shocked.My main concern is that this book if being promoted by someone on you tube aimed at 12/13/14 year olds.I do not consider this modern poetry.As someone who has worked with adult surivors I would say this is not suitable reading let alone for a teenager.

Maybe one in every 20 "poems" is any good. As another reviewer pointedly said, writing common sense short sentences in random spaces without punctuation or capital letters does not make it poetry. It feels more like a collection of my friends' half-arsed Instagram captions...

I feel like this book is very misleadingWhen the book arrived I thought it looked lovely. However I then went on and started to read the book and was very shocked by the contents. Quite graphic, uncomfortable “short stories“ or “quotes” whatever you want to call them.I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for nice quotes or a positive read. I bought a book about self-love and this was on the recommended list.

I was a bit perplexed about all the hype around this book. Some of the poems, in their simplicity and directness, I found beautiful and sounding "true". But many more were, to me, quite banal and empty. I also felt a bit uncomfortable with how graphic some of them are, but this may be just personal preferences. To me, 2 1/2 stars for this books - halfway.

Easy to read yet packed with emotion and small details, Milk and Honey is sure to pull you into the wonderful world of poetry.Throughout the book, we are treated to some beautiful illustrations which compliment the poems perfectly.Give this book a go, even if poetry isn't your thing as you will likely be pleasantly surprised! I passed this book onto one of my best friends who I thought would also benefit from hearing these poems of real, heart wrenching life struggles.Milk and Honey is one book that will stay with me in my heart for a long time!

Bought for teenage daughter (15.5 years). She cannot put it down, keeps reading out poems saying 'listen to this..'. She can liken poems to particular friends and to both their and her relationships. I thoroughly recommend this book for teenage girls. They face unparalleled challenges and these poems relate to so many issues that they face themselves. Brilliant piece of literature Rupi Kaur.

Worth reading, but I'm not sure it warrants the hype. Perhaps I'm getting old.
