What is this???
I’ve had the Immortals After Dark on my recommended list for a while, so I finally trekked over to a website to find the reading order for the series. I have to say, after getting through about half of this novella, it’ll be a while before I think about giving the rest of the series a go. This is nothing more than overpriced erotica where the main character is forced through magic to follow every order the “hero” gives. He justifies it by saying that she left him with a magical hard-on for five years when she chose not to sleep with him right after he threatened to torture her. I don’t know about you, but a guy telling me he’s going to break my bones for information wouldn’t be a turn on for me either.I absolutely hated the guy in this story. I have zero sympathy for him or his reasons behind forcing Myst to become his bride and sexually satisfy him without the choice to even say no. If this is the type of “alpha male” that this author writes, than I don’t understand the appeal.Without the magical control, I may have been ok because I did like Myst at the beginning. Wroth needs to be strung up, though, and it was so bad that I couldn’t finish or recommend this to others.

A hilarious and entertaining romance.
This book was terrible and crazy and hilarious and I FREAKING LOVED IT.Starting it was like being thrown into a tornado because I had no idea what was going on, but Myst the sassy Valkyrie kept me hooked. I loved how fierce she was and her sense of humor was top notch. The plot of this book is insane, but it’s also a romance novel and I’m here for the cheap thrills. I’m also really intrigued by this universe! Never in my life have I read anything about the Valkyrie and all the other creatures had a new spin to them that was refreshing. I’m already excited to read more outrageous stories about these characters.↬ FINAL WORDThis was hilarious, both intentionally and unintentionally. If you love the cheap romantic thrills like I do, this is a great, fun read.

Another interesting twist on the vampire mythos for paranormal romance
I started this series on the recommendation of a friend who is a romance author, and I devoured this sexy novella in a single evening. I had certain preconceptions about the two main characters based on the back-cover text, which were smashed immediately. The heroine Myst, especially, was not what I expected at all. The intricate world-building enhances the complexity of her character, and I look forward to learning about the magical elements of this urban fantasy world. Also, she's hilarious, which will always make me favor a character.Nikolai trends toward the typical Alpha hero, but where I thought the book was going to be kind of rapey, he proved that consent is still way sexier. Major consent issues in this story regarding personal freedom are still present, but it trends toward the kink side rather than straight-up problematic. Readers should be conscious of potential triggers. While the "Bride" concept is an interesting twist on the vampire mythos, I do find it incredibly heteronormative. It will be interesting to see how this plays out through further partnerships in the series.

This is the introductory novella to the Immortals After Dark series. I know what you’re thinking. Why am I reading the introductory story of a series AFTER I’ve already read the next six stories in the series when I’m such a “read in order” type of person? Well, I’m following the advice of experts. You may remember me saying in my review of the first book in this series, A Hunger Like No Other, that I had really gotten interested in reading these books when hearing about the Fated Mates podcast. These women actually started a podcast to discuss these books and recommended you not start with this story, but with book one instead. If they are that invested in this series, I think their advice holds some weight. And trust me when I tell you that I am absolutely glad I waited on this one. As usual, they were right.I really hate spoilers. Although this story doesn’t have spoilers in the typical sense, there are some hints that could have given some things away about future books in the series. Plus, I absolutely would not have wanted to read what I consider this book’s mate with too much time between. But we’ll get to that later.Nikolai and Myst have off the charts chemistry. There is no denying their connection, so it threw me for a loop when Myst was acting as though this was just another mission for her. And even more so when her sisters arrived for her “rescue” and she continued to play the aloof heroine. To be fair, she had every reason to mistrust and even taunt Nikolai given what his plans had been for her. But she sure gave good face to her act of not caring she was leaving Nikolai behind. There is so much mistrust between Myst and Nikolai that it is a wonder they ever spoke their thoughts aloud to one another. Of course, not the thoughts they should have been speaking. As usual, so many things in this relationship could have been resolved with an open and frank conversation. But what fun would that be?This is going to sound crazy since I’m talking about a 300 year old vampire, but there is a certain innocence to Nikolai. That’s because the rest of the lore mistrusts the vampires and the Forbearers are humans turned vampire so have no prior knowledge of the lore. Nobody is sharing information with them. It’s not only Nikolai’s ignorance of the lore, but the fact that he hasn’t moved on with the times. In other words, he still acts as though he’s in the 1700’s at times. It was fun to see strong, beautiful, unshakable Myst find her match. As much fun as it was to see Nikolai learn the real way of the world while finding his own flaws and trying to fix them. This book ties directly into book 7 of this series, Untouchable. I strongly recommend you have that book ready to go when you finish this one. I found I wanted to read Murdoch’s story as soon as I finished this book.

Hope the next in the series is better
3 stars for an intriguing array of characters. I've heard a lot about this series and wanted to see what all the buzz is about. Gotta say, I hope it gets better.Basics: Nikolai is a vampire, Myst is a Valjyrie. She curses him with an erection (yep, seriously) and when he finds her, he punishes her sexually.- did it keep my attention? Yep- Is it plausible? Hmmm, not really-Grammatical errors or odd language? Nope, all good- Do I like the characters? Not really. I never felt like I got to know them.

a good introduction to the series
This is another reread as I’ve decided to read this series again it’s a paranormal novella but actually quite a decent length.Myst the coveted is a Valkyrie Nicolai Wroth is a turned vampire Myst’s kings mortal enemy when he finds her in the dungeons of his enemy’s stronghold he is instantly drawn to her. When she bloods him making his heart beat for the first time as a vampire along with some other perks he is determined to possess her.Myst has other ideas leaving him behind but alive Wroth will follow her to the ends of the earth to get her back into his possession. This was a good introduction to the series as a whole it’s sexy and well written and was also enjoyable. It’s a bit instalove and the length does work against it slightly saying that I would still recommend this and I’m looking forward to diving back into this whole series.

Bit disappointed but still a good novella.
Considering the hype and number of 5star reviews online, I felt a bit let down. This is a fifteen chapter novella but I found it was only towards the final few chapters that I enjoyed the tale and liked our main male character, Nikolai. Of course, I loved the strength, loyalty and complexities of our main female character, Myst.So what was it that I didn't like? Well, there were many situations within this novella that made me feel uncomfortable; all of which as a result of Nikolai's thoughts and actions. He was as far from a hero in my books as he could get through most of this novella. The Kindle edition doesn't have page numbers but the story concludes at 70% the rest of the novella being a preview (first 5 chapters) of "Lothaire" the 12th hook in this popular series.I might read the next book as I did enjoy the Lothaire preview but maybe not straight away.

Pushy, dominating and sexy as hell
Well where do I begin........ This story gives a new look to vampires and the supernatural world. This is the first book I've read that contains a valkyrie and its a really intreguing character.Me meet our main female character captured in a vampire dungeon, she's sassy, cocky and has a sense of humour to match. Enter one sexy as hell vamp and you have a powder keg waiting to explode. The author has constructed characters and a world that captures the imagination and leaves the reader wanting more. I look forward to learning more about the valkyries and the world they are involved in.

Fantastic!!
I've had this book on my wish list for well over a year now and every time I would go to buy it and read it the shortness and price put me off. I like a meaty book to get my teeth into and don't mind paying a pretty penny to get one as long as it's at least 300+ pages. In the end I obviously bought it because I really did like the sound of it so thought I would take the chance and it didn't let me down what it lacked in pages it made up for it in characters and the storytelling. I definitely want to learn more and thankfully the books seem to get longer through out the series. I hope the valkenry (not sure how to spell it lol) storyline continues I think they are a great species like a breath of fresh air. Looking forward to reading book two.
