beginner friendly and long lasting
i used this product on my darker parts and it still was very bright! i loved how it turned out! it was a little messy and dyed my neck but i was able to get it off in a few washes. it has lasted over 10 washes and it’s still pretty vivid. i already have bleached hair and it didn’t ruin the blonde. def recommend for beginners

Got BAD Roots? Bad Color?
I am SO in love with this stuff! So far I've purchased it twice, it's that good. While it's perfect for MY needs, it might be a miss for you, and here's why:I have dark brown hair. Or shall I say HAD.I'ts turning grey, so it was salon dyed with highlights. But now my hair is growing out, and instead of a touch up, I want it to grow out to virgin hair.2 inches of grey roots and faded medium brown ends? YUK! How was I going to leave the house unless wearing a ski mask?!I had this idea I wanted that purple/grey color after all the brown grew out. When I saw that this product doesn't damage your hair, I thought I'd try it. I've used manic panic in the past. This was reasonably priced so I went with this burgundy, because it didn't come in a purple for dark hair.Washed hair, towel dried. Instead of using the brush, I used a rat tail comb, applying the gel color on to the base and combing through. Waited. Rinsed.WOW!!!!!The grey is that gorgeous light purple, and in the light you can see streaks of dark burgundy on the brown hair. Subtle, but there. It looks like a salon did it.AND...my hair feels like it gets a conditioning treatment every time I use it!I'm not careful about avoiding my scalp, so my head is a little blotchy before my next shower. The next shower takes the scalp color off and it looks perfect. I've also put it on dry hair around my face, because those areas fade quickly because you wash your face twice a day and wear makeup. I just leave it in my hair until I wash it next.I never was very good at following directions, heehee!Comes with gloves, and the gloves are much better than box color gloves, but as a glove addict I always have the better fitting medical gloves on hand, and use those.LOVE. THIS. STUFF.

Protip: Do the test first
I've tried three colors-- Burgundy, Maroon, and Tangerine-- with only the latter purchased on Amazon. My hair is a dirty blonde color closer to my face, fading to a tiny bit darker color in the back, and has a few grey strands in front. I don't bleach first because I just wanted a hint of color, and that's what I get-- my hair is porous and takes the color pretty well. There's not a lot of staining on clothes and sheets, but I also tend to just let water go through it until it runs clear after the first 'treatment' so maybe that helps? The Maroon fades the slowest, to a washed out mauve, and is my least fave. Gave the first tube away after using about half because I was working at a place that gave me the side eye for having 'weird hair'. During the pandemic I said eff it and tried again. The Burgundy is really lovely and rich. Just applied the Tangerine for the first time and oh wow. Really like how it looks-- will probably reapply the maroon to the ends to get a sunset effect.Title is 'do the test first' because I've never done the strand test or allergy test before, and I don't dye my whole head because I like the look of just the ends being colored, but after this last round with the Tangerine I can totally see why they tell you to do it. Some of the dye spilled out of my gloved hands and I scooped it up with the brush and applied it that way-- I hate wasting things and it was about a Tbsp of dye. I got a bit of it on my ear and wiped it off. It stung a little but it passed. My scalp, the spot on my neck where hair brushed by, and a patch on my throat, all burn. Like a lot. Literally sitting here typing this with an ice pack balanced on my head-- my posture has never been better. *lol* Might post a picture later if Amazon lets you add photos to a review after posting. So yeah. If you're thinking of doing your whole head, DO. THE TEST. FIRST.ETA: Gave it 4 stars because the gloves are utter crap-- they actually make the dying process harder and messier because they're so huge and floppy. I realize some folks can have a latex allergy, and for all I know the dye might interact poorly with latex so there's probably not another viable option, but the gloves really are the worst.UPDATE (1/20/22): I've shampooed my hair more than a few times since I first posted and there is STILL red in the ends of my hair. Not even kidding about this.
