King Kong
If any author was meant to produce a child friendly version of “King Kong,” it is certainly Anthony Browne – for whom illustrations of gorilla’s and other apes are his trademark. This is a picture book for older children, which will be sure to engage the most reluctant reader and will appeal to children of approx 7+, although it is also ideal to read aloud. The story is, obviously, well known. King Kong is captured on a remote island and taken to New York, where he escapes and climbs the Empire State Building. Miss Ann Darrow, the beautiful young lady that Kong captures, bears more than a passing resemblance to Marilyn Monroe, and the book perfectly captures the time period. Glorious illustrations, an exciting storyline and fun to read. I bought this for my nine year old son, who is a big fan of the film of King Kong, and he was riveted. This makes a lovely gift and a good addition to any child’s bookshelf, which will appeal to a wide age range.

Great
Really enjoyed it, the kids were a bit upset at the end, because it is sad, but interesting book

It was Beauty that killed the beast
Had this on order at the library for weeks. Its very popular with boys and my son has shown more interest in this book than any other Ive ever brought home. It seems to tick all the boxes. This is the first time 'Kong' had ever appeared as a book and a book Anthony Browne was destined to illustate. If your not familar with Browne his books feature monkeys, chimps, Gorillas etcAlready familar with all three movies Im happy that the book covers the 3 phases of the story. Setting sail from New York. Skull Island. New York and the 8th Wonder of the world. Ann Darrow has a Marilyn Monroe appearance but I didnt find Kong scary enough, although the illustrations are very detailed. The book has 92 pages each with colour images telling the story. You could quite easily follow the story by images alone but I enjoyed the text and found it accurate. I think 6 + would appreciate this book. The closing pages 86-92 are done for maximum effect, well done.I love the famous last line "Oh no, it wasn't the aeroplanes ... It was Beauty that killer the Beast
