An Introduction to Coaching Skills: A Practical Guide

Great examples, exercises and topics to learn better.

This book was required for my school. It has been incredible. Easy to grasp insights, personal activitied to get me thinking, and a great companion website that allows me to get a view of actual coaching sessions. I highly recommend this book. I will be referring back to it time and time again.

We've used this book to work with peer mentors this last year, and both we and they have found the materials incredibly helpful and useful. Of most use to me is the supplemental videos, where you can see in action what you've just read.

Very good content to get you on the right mindset for coaching. This has examples and resources to refer back to.

The technical support is only lip-service. Accessing the companion video is impossible. Why buy half of a book?

My office uses this book and has found it very useful for the past three plus years. I was able to access the supplemental videos online without any problems. I wish it was more in depth, but it gives a good overview of life coaching and is well in keeping with the International Coaching Federation’s competencies and ethics.

Great book for novice and a good reference for more advanced coaches. Easy to read and provide different level of insights depending on your own level. The videos that accompany the book, could have been a bit longer and explain a bit more in details the concepts expressed in the book. All together 4.5 but I can't rate it like that so I believe 5 is more appropriate. Well done.

This is the sixth coaching book I’ve read this year and it’s the most practical - tells you the skills you need to develop, lays out practical exercises along different themes, and gives you access to lots of snippets of video to illustrate them. Underneath it all I felt there’s a lovely sense of energy and commitment to the “coaching way of being”.

Christian van Nieuwerburgh is one of our lecturers at the University of East London, and this book is part of the Core Reading. It's a great starting point for beginner coaches.
