Bought for 2 houses. Keeps our cats stress down.
I bought the first one 10 years ago at our last house because we found cats were coming in and eating our cats food. Discovered after installing IP cameras in the house. Installing the catflap there really relaxed our cat that was always fighting at the flap with other cats. Eventually she realised they couldn't get in. It was still there when we sold the house last year. The only issue we found was the sometimes when our cat came running in really fast she would literally knock the green latch as it was closing from her chip. This meant i had to go in a fix the internal mechanism so the lock would work again.Last year we moved into a new house, with our same more senior cat :). We weren't sure about the new feline social scene, so put a cheap small catflap in. But more cats have appeared and our cat is stressed again and weeing in the house. So we decided to buy the same trusty catflap as before (after i looked around on the market and find any newer model that seemed any better). I installed it just this week. So far the weeing has slowed down. I've witnessed an incident at the catflap where another cat was outside and our cat was over a meter back hissing and stood her ground. Ended peacefully. My only problem is the power cable is now black which doesn't match the white door or skirting board or anything in the kitchen :(.

I have been an avid fan of this type of cat flap for years.
I even bought one of the original PetPortes before this company took them over. It never disappoints. Keeps out the intruders and lets in my moggies with ease. Love it.

Great cat flap but..............
We had one of these for several years and it worked well albeit one cat wouldn't use it to come in as it makes a click when it unlocks! We then took on another young cat whose owner had died and programmed her into it.Eventually the scanner gave up the ghost so we purchased a new one - in fact we thought the first one was faulty and exchanged it. However, the first cat to be programmed as she came in was the newest addition and it worked fine but, try as we might it would not read the two older cats who were at the time 11 years old. It would appear that the scanner will not read their microchips. They are tracer chips so check your cats microchip number before purchasing. There should be another added to the list that cannot be read and it starts with 9810.Also please note: It is much easier to program your cat once the cat flap is installed. We done it the first time following the instructions in the book but it was harder to do. When we took in another cat we programmed her whilst the cat flap was in situ and it worked much better.

Not great
This was incredibly difficult to install onto precut glass and it's still not really in properly I had to improvise. But although it's secure enough it doesn't actually work 100% it's plugged into the mains and had registered all four of my cats microchips. Yet the whole reason why I got it (next door neighbours cat intruding and eating all the food) somehow still manages to get in sometimes. I come downstairs and there he is in my living room when all windows and doors are closed. I haven't caught him in the act yet but assuming he is tailgating quite literally. So I'm not that impressed for the price and the effort it's taken it still hasn't solved the problem.

Good product will last for years
This was an identical replacement of the same cat flap that I have had for 15 years + I have had 7 cats use this over this time so I can recommend this product.

GREAT customer service!
I had a mains-powered microchip-recognising catflap in our old house, and it worked really well for about 5 years. So when we moved house in February 2021 I immediately ordered the same catflap for our new house. Unfortunately because of Covid-blah-excuses we had to wait until January 2022 for a window company to eventually get around to fitting a new door in our house, and in the meantime we had to act as door-opening flunkeys for our cat. But when the catflap was finally installed in the new door, it didn't work. With most other companies, if you ordered something from them and discovered nearly a whole year later that the product didn't work, they would just say it was tough luck, and you should have contacted them within X days of purchase. So even though I checked my Amazon order records and found that there was a "product life support" link with a freephone phone number on it (as noted above in a previous review/answer from 2016), I really wasn't optimistic about getting any help. And even when I did ring the number I was expecting to be put through to some automated system and then be on hold for maybe an hour. What happened instead was a complete surprise. I was immediately put through to a real person, who was able to diagnose the fault straight away, and they then arranged to send me a replacement unit ... because this product comes with a 3-YEAR limited warranty. They also emailed me a workaround solution to try to get the catflap working while I'm waiting for the new unit to arrive. So overall it's a shame that the original unit didn't work, but I am 100% satisfied by the customer service and the outcome of my call. This company could show all other companies how to run their customer services. In fact, they could show most other organisations (including governments) how to provide customer support. In fact, based on the way things have been going in the world in general for the last couple of years, I would be happy for them to run the whole planet.---On a slightly less enthusiastic note, I do agree with some of the previous reviews that you really do need to keep the instruction book handy because the 'simple' 2-button interface requires some very complicated combinations of actions in order to switch to different modes, so it it is the opposite of an intuitive design. But I like to imagine that PetSafe are going to develop a mobile phone app or an Alexa skill or something, so that one day it will be much easier to program the catflap or to check its current status.---THANK YOOOOOU PetSafe - what a refreshing change it was to actually speak to a real live human being and to explain the problem to someone who understood it and could fix the situation.(Yes, in the meantime another neighbourhood cat has been into my kitchen to use it as a toilet, but that just shows how useful the new catflap will be when it does work.)

It runs off the mains and has a backup battery
It works!!!I have tried a few other microchip catflaps, none have worked. This one was more expensive but it works well. It needs 2 people to install it, but its easy to do... my cat took to it staight away, no problems.Very happy with the product and very relieved that it worked first time, having programmed it which was also easy..
