It is a high quality LW/MW/SW/FM Stereo radio: Digital Tuning using a rotating dial!
I wanted an inexpensive all band radio. This one is an excellent choice, with a very reasonable price, excellent reception on AM and FM, great reception of the few shortwave stations left, and lots of funny noises on LW. I assume in Europe I could get Radio 4 and Europe 1 and maybe some others. What makes this a radio for users beyond the casual one is this:1) you can set 10kHz spacing (Western Hemisphere) or 9 KHz spacing (Eastern Hemisphere) and it takes 2 button presses to do it.2) FM range can be 88-108, 87-108, 76-108 (the last is for Japan). Again, it takes just a second to do it. FM goes by 0.1 steps (not 0.2 only like regular American radios, it is easy to use for even stations, like 98.4, in Europe). FM is stereo with headphones.3) SW is in Meter bands, 49, 41, 31,etc. but when you enter one is remembers which you used last, and you can go up or down right into the next meter band.Tuning, incredibly is done in those steps using a rotating dial that is against the right side. None is half in, so dust can't ruin it, yet it's digital; you turn it and it moves to the next value after about a 10 degree turn.5) You can also enter a number digitally. Whichever range you are in controls what values it accepts, meaning you can't type 660 on FM (though you can put1020 on AM even if you meant 102.0 on FM). Some of the ranges allow even smaller stepping, but I would have to try a few to find out again which ones.6) It can scan and create a memory of all the actual stations it can find in a range, and you can step through those memory items if you are in "Memory" mode. A button push returns it to "Frequency" mode. There is a whole system for setting a bunch of personal "Memory" values. Half the booklet describes that.7) You can have the light on all the time or go off after 5 seconds. You can have the time show all the time or the frequency. There is a simple button to toggle that. It has 2 alarms. It shows the S/N ratio all the time. You can lock and unlock the knobs and buttons by pressing a lock button.8) And it DOES NOT have a pair of arrow buttons for changing frequencies; it only uses the very convenient turning knob. Same with volume, a smooth turning know, but digital volume changes.I am amazed how it acts better than the big SONY ICF7600 used to act, even though it feels very light and almost too easy to use. If anything is not perfect, sometimes when I'm going down, and I stop and then go down again, it goes up one first, before going down. It might be my lack of tuning grace. I am trying to think of other things about it, but the main thing is if you are an "expert-type" radio listener, this is perfect. Ahh, it doesn't have SSB (Single Side Band). For a mid-level 2-digit US$ price, it's absolutely perfect.Last thing: It has a built-in chargeable battery with a USB-C connection. I think it comes with the USB-A to -C cable for it. Every 10 days or so of listening for an hour at a time, I recharge it. It's got a battery meter on the screen, so you know if it's going down in the charge. When it's working, anything you do lights it up for 3-5 seconds. There is even a lock button that if you hold for 1 second, it locks the buttons so you can't accidentally change something. Another 1-sec press and Lock is off.I can't imagine what could be better about it. Maybe if it showed television shows (that's a joke).
