This is reminiscent of the Frosty Mug I (and many other 80's kids) had growing up, you fill the cup up with your favourite drink, wait impatiently for it to freeze (through the power of magic, I assume), and the next thing you know you have a frozen drink, perfect on a hot Aussie summer day, and all without having to take a trip to the local 7-11. The process to create a slushy is pretty simple, the inner cup contains a salt water mixture (according to the manufacturer), so you put the cup into the freezer for a few hours, the salt water freezes, you take the cup out, pour your favourite drink into the cup, and it will start freezing over, you then regularly squeeze the cup (it's all made from soft silicone) to break the ice up, causing it to form more of a slushy texture, rather than just solid pieces of ice. The cup works well, I've used both sugar free cordial and sugar free carbonated drinks in it and it doesn't take long at all for the ice to start forming, and regularly squeezing the cup during that process does result in a decent slushy consistency. Is the result as good as the ones you get from your local 7-11, absolutely not, but they have a whole big honking machine dedicated to producing theirs, so you'd expect something better from that. A handy little straw spoon is included, just like the ones you get when you get a store bought slushy, except this one is a strong, resusable plastic one, not a useless cardboard one that sags into a useless heap of wet mush halfway through your slushy. Conveniently, you can even slide the spoon part off completely so you can just use it as a straw if desired. The product video shows the person scooping the ice out of the slushy maker into a separate cup, which I guess you'd want to do if you intend sharing the cup with others, but if you're the only one using it, you can just eat/drink directly from the slushy maker cup itself, no airs and graces required, just slurp away straight from the cup to your heart's content. Here's a quick list of what I consider to be the pros (+) and cons (-): + Very easy to use and it produces a decent slushy consistency if used correctly + If the inner cup happens to tear/break, there's no dangerous chemicals inside, just salt water (this is based on details provided by the manufacturer/vendor) + Straw spoon that can be converted to just a straw is a great inclusion - Takes up quite a bit of space in the freezer relative to the amount of liquid it can then hold - Getting all the frozen drink out of the cup is difficult, it gets caught up in the numerous folds of the inner cup - The folds of the inner cup also make cleaning it a bit of an annoying task - Gets quite tedious pulling the whole thing apart after each use to clean and then dry it, but I fear that just washing out the actual drink holding section will result in moisture getting trapped between the inner and outer cups, potentially leading to problems like mold I quite like this slushy maker, it does a good job of making a decent slushy (much better than the Frosty Mug I had as a kid), however, the fact that it occupies so much space in our fairly small freezer, and that it's a bit of a nuisance to pull apart and put back together again after every use to ensure it's properly cleaned and dried, means I probably won't end up using it as much as I'd like to, but that's on me, maybe I'm just lazy. If you have kids that enjoy slushies, this would probably be something that would get a fair bit of use, even better if they're entertained by the actual process of their drink turning to ice right in front of them.
