Excellent 5G Modem/Wifi Router, Outshines Dedicated Hotspots
I cannot add much more than what others said about it (the good things), but I can say what I needed it for and how it worked out. TL;DR: I needed it to provide both a stable local WiFi LAN and high-speed T-Mobile "5G UC" Internet for my Samsung Android devices in my car. And it was a major success. FULL STORY I have all Samsung Android devices and use a Samsung account with them. I need them to network with each other while also having internet access. I used to do this by setting my phone as a hotspot and sharing data, and calling/texting with my tablet, which is mounted on my dashboard and connected to my car via Bluetooth. The problem is that T-Mobile reduces speed when using the phone as a hotspot for my tablet (or the phone just runs slower in hotspot mode). On my phone alone, with "5G UC," I can get a sustained 1.5 Gbps in some parts of town. But when the hotspot is running to feed data to the tablet, the speed drops to as slow as 5 Mbps and is unstable. This wasn't going to work. My first solution was to get a dedicated hotspot device, and I did try a couple that failed hard—Inseego and Netgear. I suppose they would be fine if you're taking it with you to a stationary environment, but I needed this to be seamless and on the go. This solution had major issues: 1. The hotspots were battery-powered, and this created an issue where you either have to manage them every time you need to use them, or leaving them unmanaged means the battery will drain. Or in some cases, you need to physically turn them on or wake them up. 2. The Inseego m3000 hotspot, for some reason, did not allow devices connected to it to see each other, therefore breaking my Samsung ecosystem between devices. 3. The Netgear Nighthawk hotspot refuses to connect to T-Mobile 5G at all, but the connected devices to it can see each other. 4. Both hotspots couldn't get a real signal unless it was in the open air, but the Inseego did do much better indoors since you can force it to only use 5G, where the Nighthawk will not let you switch, and it always defaults to 4G. So I was back to square one when my tests all failed. Then I discovered the Gl.net, read the specs, and it looked promising, so I got it. I moved my T-Mobile $30 25GB hotspot SIM to the new device, and it just worked. As a bonus, even inside my house, I can get stable 2-3 bars of 5G UC, where my phone can only get 1 bar (or it drops to 4G). When I confirmed my connection worked, I installed it in my SUV, in the back cargo area, under the floor (extra storage), using a 12V cig cable run under the floor to power this up. Now, when the car turns on, this turns on. When the car turns off, this turns off. No need to manage it, just set it and forget it. As it turns out, with a lot of testing, this was the solution to my problem, because: 1. It's not a hotspot, it's a real 5G/4G modem with real antennas, and it's a real Wifi router, so networked devices can see each other—all devices connected to it are on a real LAN. (Important for my Samsung Android setup.) And the WiFi signal itself in the SUV is strong. 2. It connects to T-Mobile 5G at home, in the car, on the road, and remains stable. Keyword: STABLE. 3. Not battery powered, turns on and off with the power source (like in a car). This means not having to set any battery saver or sleep options, which also means no need to manually turn it off and on each time I get in the car. 4. Doesn't need to be out in the open, it picks up signal and gets fast speeds on 5G UC, avg. about 150 Mbps from inside my SUV's cargo space, tucked under the floor. I would probably get 500+ Mbps if I used an external antenna mounted on top of my car, but I wasn't doing this for the fastest speeds, just something 50 Mbps+ and most importantly, a STABLE connection, which this has. For my use case, this was perfect. But the added bonus of it working at home really is great because sometimes I lose internet at home, and this serves as an awesome emergency backup. The only downside I've had so far is that when starting up, it can take a couple of minutes to actually connect to 5G and also advertise itself to my other devices so they can auto-connect. But that's not a deal breaker at all for me, just something that I wish was better. But it is much faster than both the Inseego and Netgear. Overall, it's been great for what I needed it to do, and even if I didn't need it for this specific use case, it's a good product for other uses.

Awesome product backed by a FANTASTIC support team!
Extremely versatile! I bought this for a remote project that needed an intranet and intermittent WAN access, having embedded router and both Ethernet WAN and Cellular WAN as available options, this was the perfect solution. Ran flawlessly for almost 18 months, but failed out of the blue one day, was unable to access the router config page, even after following the process for a hard reset. Was also unable to communicate with the device to re-flash the package with UBOOT. I contacted their support team for additional diagnostic assistance. Annie quickly returned my email, jumping in to ensure that the UBOOT procedure was being performed properly, and when it was determined that the unit itself had failed, Daisy jumped in to assist with a replacement! They gave me a shipping label, and I sent it back, 10 business days past and I have a brand new, sealed unit to replace the failed one! What an awesome product, backed by an absolutely fantastic team! I have purchased another, lesser unit (1750) for another remote project I am working on for this very reason. GL.iNet has won a customer for life!

Feature rich modem/router with EXCELLENT customer service support that is super responsive.
So far I'm extremely happy with this purchase. The modem/router is exactly what I needed to replace my tethered phone setup, and the features built into the X3000 provide so much customization there's little you can't tweak, yet the interface is well thought out and super user friendly. The truly fantastic thing though is the customer support, and it has nothing to do with any issues with the unit. I contacted their customer support PRIOR to making the purchase to make sure the features and functionality of the GL-X3000 would meet my needs in replacing my unique topology. Well, their CS rep answered the questions in my first email promptly, and has continued to correspond with me regularly in the weeks following my purchase as I have worked to optimize my cellular setup. There is definitely a time difference at play, but every, and I mean EVERY email I have sent or replied to has been met with a helpful and professional response that night or by the next morning. Overall I am super happy with the purchase, and the excellent product support of their CS team. Don't hesitate to purchase.

Purchased in Dec 24, Died Oct 26.
Router failed completely just after less than 2 years of use. Powers on, but cannot connect to the device even through LAN. I would not recommend purchasing this device. It's simply too expensive to only get 2 years of life out of. While it was working, it was a fantastic device. Only required a few resets during it's lifespan. I had a reliable cellular connection that was good for everything except low latency gaming, which is expected with the cellular network.

Outstanding Support & Router Speeds!
We purchased the Spitz AX for our business to use as a failover modem. It served surprisingly well for about 1.5 years, until it failed to connect. Could not resurrect trying a reset or firmware update. There is a forum/thread on this issue where reported failures occurred after a power reset/cycle. Was too busy at the time to go through the typical and sometimes painful process of opening a ticket with tech support, so decided to purchase a second identical unit that also failed in about the same time period. Again, tried all the suggestions mentioned in the forum, yet was futile. UBOOT firmware uploads were unsuccessful. After annoyingly looking at two costly dead modems sitting on my desk, decided to try the tech support route, yet assumed it would be the end-game. Boy, was I wrong! Customer support promptly assisted with troubleshooting and ultimately approved an RMA for the failed units. One is back in service and the second unit now a spare. We're on a T-Mobile business plan and the Inseego modem they provided was pathetic. Signal levels and throughput were very low and unreliable. We were flabbergasted by the speeds and reliability of the X3000. We placed the unit on the second floor with an Ethernet cable going back to server room/router. Signal level was consistently 5 bars! Prior to the X3000 we had a Pepwave modem in service with two outdoor antennas. LTE speeds and signal strength were mediocre. Must admit, that was largely due to the Verizon network we were on at that time. Our business heavily relies on Internet access since we host our own servers for payment processing and database access. We have five levels of Internet redundancy and load balancing! The two levels of real-personal customer support we received is almost non-existent these days. Especially, with the advent of AI support, frustration can mount at times. I would hope the hardware and/or firmware issue with this modem is now resolved, yet am more at ease now that GL iNet is by our side!

This review wasn't bought and paid for.
Needed internet for the RV and researched around. Settled on cellular SIM service and ordered a NetGear Blackhawk M6... and it was absolutely terrible. It kept dropping wifi, rebooting, throttling speed, and was unusable. Then came Prime Day and I found this GL-X3000 sim router. So, I spent my own money and hoped for the best with a 30 day return policy. So far, so good. Setup wasn't the absolute most intuitive thing. It tells you to use the passkey on the router to log in for the first time, but the install a sliding plate over it and don't say anything about that. They also tell you to install the antennas, but don't instruct which is which, so you just gotta figure out the shapes from the small pictures. Speaking on the antennas, if you turn them too much, they become weak and start to flop over. The UI on the router admin portal is, for the most part, fairly intuitive. You can automatically set it up if you want. I tried that and got nowhere for about 20-30 minutes. I tried manually setting it up through some of the information settings I had saved from the Nighthawk M6, and managed to get it connected after a while. I am residing out in the middle of nowhere, so the speeds weren't blistering fast, but fast enough (about 40-50Mbps). The UI could use some reworking when it sends you failure notifications or whatnot, because those are hard to catch when you are waiting for a connection and the pop up and disappear within a few seconds. The router has also crashed signal a couple of times and taken a good chunk of fiddling with the settings to get it right, including identifying the proper carrier. Finally, if you don't know what you are doing because you are pretty much a layman such as myself, good luck using the AT commands. It will preload some basic ones, but anything worth using you have to figure out yourself. Finally, the wifi range is pretty decent and controlling your own wifi network is easy. For whatever reason, I couldn't get our Rolu device to work on the 2.4ghz band, so we ousted the Roku and ordered a wifi 6/5ghz Fire TV stick. If you can get this thing on sale, I'd say go for it, don't be intimidated by setting up a router, and see for yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised.

There's critical things you need to do
(This is a serious router, it's a Ferrari, but you have to learn how to drive it, I was shocked by the build quality & weight as well) I have multiple reasons for using this router, one is eventually using a simcard from a "throttled or blocked Hotspot" device to get crazy fast unlimited net, the steps below will help you to configure it if you have similar goals. -My current reason for buying this router was to swap my T-Mobile 5g home internet router out for this one, one day we get 280mbps download, then the t mobile router switches bands and we go down to 40 mbps, This router allows me to configure and lock on to exactly which tower, and fastest signal band I want, I can also change my APN, clone the T-Mobile router Gateway IMEI, etc and basically hack the network to consistently get the fastest speeds. -Regardless of what your doing with it, in order to get your money's worth, you have to learn how to program it. (I just used chatgpt and prompted it to be a specialist in the X3000 Router, T-mobile, 5ghome net, glinet, openwrt, etc. (I'll upload screenshots.) I told chat i was an idiot and needed help setting this up & to keep it simple. Boom, works excellent. *IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK, you'll at least have to clone your original device IMEI, so the network "thinks" nothing fishy is happening. -Insert your sim, open a browser on your device, go to 192.168.8.1 and set up a new admin password. (You might have to sign onto the X3000 network 1st with the SSID & password on the router sticker). Then click "internet" top left, and it should have 3 dots like this you click "..." click "modem at command" and input AT+EGMR=1,7,"NEW_IMEI" keep it identical to what I just pasted just put your old devices IMEI where it says "NEW_IMEI" obviously delete the "new_imei" but keep the quotation marks, hit "send", if it works it should say "ok". Save and exit. -CRITICAL PART after saving, unplug the router, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in. Your internet should work. **** If using a sim card from a regular device that doesn't include Hotspot, or throttles hotspot, there are additional settings to configure, I'll upload a screenshot on what to ask ai or Google, be specific with your carrier and the exact router model, etc. -This is an incredible life hack that will save you thousands of dollars in regular isp exploitation over your lifetime, the way I see it our cable ISP is charging us $120 a month because they think they are the only game in that area. Once I get this working properly we get high speed unlimited internet for $35 a month and this expensive router pays for itself in no time. - It's an asset not a luxury or liability, just takes patience to learn. Hope this helps, don't give up. 😉 - Also you'll really have to move the antennas, location, speed test, adjust, speed test, etc to get a faster & faster connection, this router has omni directional antennas, therefore tiny adjustments in position, angle, distance from window, antennas can triple your speeds. Its weird but cellular is highly sensitive. (Maybe I'll make a video on my YT "crazydiyguy" eventually, I hope this helps for now.) Good luck

Update x2: Great modem once you figure it out.
Second update: I found a way to use unlimited plus (no throttle) Verizon discount carriers on it: Visible ($45/mo) or Total($50/mo). It IS possible, with a very specific configuration to use Verizon (LTE+NSA only) and we're getting killer download speeds where no other internet is available, a few miles out of town, and no extra antennas, through an external wall. Yes, it will require some real research and work to get it set. Once set, we are solid. High speeds and very reliable. Update: A year later, still using the modem and pretty happy, actually. I figured out my speed issues are due to having a carrier that deprioritizes data when the network is congested. This can slow speeds hugely. On a flagship plan, things should be pretty good. I'm a bit out in the country next to a small town with one main 5g tower, so it gets great speeds when it's not too busy, and pretty slow speeds if it gets really congested. In town, I expect this would be much less of an impact, since speeds in town are huge. We took this unit on a car vacation for a week to Florida, and kept the kids online the whole way, hooked up in two different hotel rooms and friends' condo with speeds around 200 mbps down without much searching. Learning the local towers and the band-masking function on the unit help a lot. I learned the issues are generally less with the unit and available local towers. 4 and not 5 stars still because I really need to use a different modem for my smart home devices. One thing this modem has going for it: AT commands to change IMEI is pretty easy. Once that was set and getting my TTL set to 65 for Metro by T-Mobile, it connected. Tower lock is pretty cool to keep your speed pretty steady, unless your tower's signal is low or acting up today, and then you need to step back in and make changes because then you're not connecting at all. Also be warned, carrier aggregation is limited to 2 bands, that is, one 5G and one LTE band. This means it won't be as fast as other modems with 3 band carrier aggregation, though I understand those are a bit more expensive. It's pretty terrible for administrating a smart home. It can handle just a few devices at a time, but in the end I've gone back to my AT&T sim card with my rock-steady CAT18 4G LTE Cudy router, which is frankly much of the time almost as fast and can do combined 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, keeping those slower smart devices synced up with the faster ones. This modem can only do separate 2.4 and 5 GHz Wifi, and didn't administrate the slower band very well. It does a good job if you just have some PCs wanting to hook up to a 5G 5GHz connection, and not far away from the unit. I also tried LAN out to WAN on the cudy. This took a good bit of setting changes to be able to get them to work together. To be fair there are plenty of options for doing this, though I found that using the Cudy router as an access point seemed to cut both routers' speeds in half, whether or not you leave the gl-x3000's wireless active or not. This setup also made video streaming almost impossible. Your wireless carriers will also still throttle you endlessly, though that's not GL.iNet's fault. VPN is still a must for PC video streaming, while streaming to TV seems to work pretty well. The very worst issue is that depending on your wireless band, you get 100% packet loss to many wireless devices connected to it, including phones and chromebooks. I think this may have something to do with the wifi frequency, because setting that seemed to help with some devices, but there are still moments of delay or no data passing through at all, leaving apps thinking they are offline, even if the device is connected. In the end, it's a solid 5G modem with just ok router capacities. It's supposed to be able to handle functioning as a WiFi repeater, or even as a tethering WiFi distribution device, but at $400+ there are much more affordable and honestly actually effective devices for that purpose for a fraction of the price. tl;dr: The good: Turns a basic wireless phone SIM card into pretty fast 5G home internet (if you can figure out settings) The bad: It's a pretty shoddy router for administering multiple devices, doesn't play well with LAN/WAN. The ugly: Limitedly customizable via a router interface, and doesn't outshine other 5G routers on the same service, especially for the price. In the end, I will probably end up returning this modem due to oddball snags, though I could learn to live with it. Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong with this one regarding settings to make it work better.

Nessun problema riscontrato in uso reale. Promosso!

A Highly Recommended 5G Router with Excellent Support
I don't often write reviews but having tried many different 4G/5G routers, I wanted to save you time by recommending this this GL.iNet router, which I have found to be by far the best. Firstly, the speed is between 3X and 10X faster than the others out of the box but using an external 4-way MiMo antenna doubles the speed again and provides and excellent broadband service in a a rural area with a less than ideal 4G signal. It is easy to set up but there are a lot of additional features, such as VPNs, the ability to tether to another network, and dual SIM failover to name a few. After nearly 2 years, it has been very stable and reliable until a couple of weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working. Having a good product is one thing but the support provided by GL.iNet has been superb. The support team are knowledgeable and responsive and after some troubleshooting sent out a replacement unit. It is not the cheapest 5G router by any means but if you are looking for a good performing router particularly as a replacement for a fixed line service if it isn't great in your area then look no further. The support is excellent and they come with a 24 month warranty.

Stabilitet
