Have had various results with10 eggs.Eggs were all large.I noticed that the inside edge of the egg topper rim was burred. Either this roughness is owing to a poor finish, or is a design feature (to provide micro teeth?). Typical results.Only part of the egg shell came away with the topper.With another, the topper was stuck to the shell and would not separate from the lower half.When given a second drop shot, the shell in the egg cup shattered. Do not even think of doing this.Helpful tips.Try rotating the topper slightly before trying to lift off.If the topper comes away from the eggshell after cracking, insert the point of a thin knife into the crack and flip the top over (as seen in a demo video).To prevent eggs cracking when putting in hot water, make a pin prick hole in the large end (where the air sac is - but you know this already don't you! I didn't until recently).Update: Queried the rough burr with the maker's, who kindly sent me a free replacement. The inner edge was still burred. I now believe this is intended to retain the top shell in the topper while being lifted free.For the first time I have now faultlessly removed the top shell from my egg with the topper. So it can be done. Just need more experience in trying.Therefore, I am upgrading the star rating to 4 and the Title.Reading reviews of other toppers, practice is a common thread - getting used to it - takes a little while to get the knack - a learning curve . . .One discovery, instead of using a pin to prick a hole in the egg before boiling, Amazon sell a selection of inexpensive egg piercing tools.

This is my second egg topper of this type. The first one the ball on the top came off after about 10 months but this one seems a heavier construction. It has to be used carefully. Pulling the ball right up and letting it go will just smash the egg so best to start off pulling it about a 3rd of the way up. Once you get the hang of it, it will cut a neat line around the top of the egg which is easily removed with your spoon. Bigger eggs work better but persevere & experiment & you will get great results.

I got this for my daughter as she loves egg's for breakfast and trying to become independent we thought this would help. She loves it (she's only 7) however we've found it really does need to be used on a certain type of egg, works amazing on large good on medium but don't bother on small. Happy with it though.

Bought this as a present for my kitchen gadget hubby!! Not given to him yet but tried it myself, what a brilliant item - took me two attempts as I hadn't read the instructions beforehand but once I had -amazing ! My hubby will love it - thank you!!

Didn't come with instructions. But I worked it out you have to lift it up. Up quickly and drop it quickly. And it kind of pings And vibrates to crack a circle round the egg. I love using it now. It is a lot easier than using a knife to cut the top of the egg. It will only do crack normal eggs not large eggs for example duck eggs They are too big.

This worked surprisingly well, you just need to gauge how high to lift the spring loaded ball so that when you release it , it gives a clean break then just lift the cutter off
