Affinity Photo Workbook

Got this so i could learn Affinity software. Excellent quality for a second hand book. Lots of reading and exercises to go through. Well worth it

What people say and the basic idea of this book is all just a little decieving. What I mean is that this is a workbook, yes, and it has exercises set up in the style of a self-taught course. But, this has left many people with the impression that this is not a reference type book. I am someone who has struggled with adult ADHD, so I am accustomed to taking materials apart and putting them back together in a way to alter the flow of a course to work for me. For me, this is a book I have to first memorize what lessons it has, so that I can return and do a single lesson to help with a specific project I have. This is what efficient learning means to me. Rather than read through this book or work through it and forget the skills when I need them most (often leading me to do the complete excercise all over). So, I have no trouble using this as a source material, rather than a read-once-and-done sort of thing. I was thinking I would give this to my buddy when I was done, but once I got it and started exploring it, I realized how excercises could also be reference material and I want to keep this in my library now. Everybody learns different, but this has been my experience. With my approach I just go ahead and use my own project materials adapted to fit the excercise steps. Some people don't like that this book is not digital, but for me graphics are a tangible thing. In the digital word I am only ever working to reflect the real word. I like having a book to touch to remind me how the history of graphics pretty much starts at the printing press.

Originally I mistakenly thought this was a manual to cover the detail of the software. It is not ( that is covered to a large extent in the software help menu). It is a few ( and I have to say stunning) examples of projects that use the software. It shows what can be done in a nice and real book ( nice to have and to hold one of those nowadays!), that can be picked up and browsed through any time of the night and day and very relaxing and therapeutic it is too! I do not think I nor a majority of users of the software will ever come close to being able to achieve a lot of what is covered, but looking at what can be done ( by experts) might at least inspire us to do something more than we would do otherwise. I am a big fan of the software as on even the autocorrect feature I really can see improvements in my photographs and that is good enough for me. I know that there is a lot more that can be done and it will surely inspire me to try one rainy evening when I am at a loose end or wanting to review those pictures outside on a nice day! If you have the software you should have this book and it is a book and not done in any electronic format, and Amazon is a book company well originally anyway! and the right place to go to buy it.

I love the book's content, including the pictures, but the bookcover seems to be coming apart from the pages themselves. Whenever I open the hardcover book, it makes a sound similar to adhesive tape being pulled away from a plastic grocery bag. Examining the bookcover, I can see that the paper that is glued to the inside of the hardcover itself lifts up very noticeably. It is still attached well enough to not allow the pages themselves to fall out completely. I am not surprised, however, as this publisher's other book that I also just purchased does the same thing. This is not a dealbreaker for me though, so I did not lower my overall rating. I am more concerned about the content than whether the cover falls off eventually. I plan on tearing into these books as I learn to use the Affinity software in my studio (after having left Adobe when they wanted to force me to move from my Creative Suite that I purchased and used almost daily to their new Creative Cloud by not allowing me to reinstall the CS software back onto my PC when it caught fire and I had to replace my computer, have been an Adobe customer for over 30 years). I own both the Affinity Design Workbook and the Affinity Photo Workbook.

To me, this is the Adobe killer...Affinity Photo is an amazingly easy to use and to learn software. It is perfectly priced for the amateur but the level of work you can do with it is professional-grade and on par if not above the industry standard of photoshop. Now when it comes to the workbook the amount of resources it provides and ease of direction it gives is amazing. It is like having a cool ass college professor that you can have a beer with after class with sitting right next to you. Easy to read and explains everything down to the letter. I highly... HIGHLY... recommend this workbook for anyone trying to learn Affinity Photo Software. Its easy on your eyes and easy on your wallet.

The book is a great companion to the software. I was a long-time Adobe user, but finally could cut the cord. The old Nik-collection plugin, that is still available as a free download, works beautifully well with Affinity Photo. I no longer need photoshop to work on photo editing.This book is not just a marketing piece. Serif has brought together 10 contributors who guide the user through interesting photography projects. Overall, this is an excellent book. It costs as much as the software, but it is a good investment. In the appendix are cards with keyboard short cuts that can be removed from the book.I hope they will print a workbook for Affinity publisher.

The software has so many great feature it makes my head spin. This book could use more coverage at a level for one just getting started.

Bel libro di ottima fattura, scritto in inglese ma di facile comprensione, non è proprio un manuale ma riesce riesce ad essere le di aiuto per capire il funzionamento, soprattutto se si è abituati all’uso di Photoshop. Ovviamente non è indispensabile, la guida online di Affinity è sufficiente, sicuramente è un supporto in più.

This is an excellent book that describes how the Affinity Software can be used to develop and enhance your photos taken with digital cameras. The Affinity programme does nothing to assist with indexing, storing and maintaining your photos that you have to load from your digital camera. You have to do your own thing in this respect and it is therefore totally different from Adobe products such as Elements or Lightroom. However both Windows and Macs now have good programmes that do enable photo library storage, but if you are used to Adobe products this makes the use of the programme different. I suspect that this omission enables the whole programme run much faster and is easier and more value for money than the Adobe products that now appear to always require some sort of on line subscription, which does not suit my requirements at all. This is why I have now changed to using this programme. I find this book has helped me a great deal to make this change to this better value for photo programme.

Really gave me an insight into photo editing.I have never used photo editors before and I did not want to go down the Photoshop subscription route, so I bought Affinity Photo.A very good book, some of the tools are a bit hard to find to start with but you soon work out where they are

Excellent ouvrage, extrêmement détaillé, les images en couleurs sont parfaites, la qualité de l’impression et du papier sont absolument admirables. Les exemples et les détails des procédures sont expliqués sans ambiguïté, avec des pages détachables pour les raccourcis de clavier. Malheureusement, le livre existe uniquement en anglais...Je le recommande vivement, même pour le public français, avec un petit dictionnaire a côté !

Until I purchased this book I hadn’t realised how powerful Affinity Photo is.The book takes you from the basics up to professional editing.Each chapter takes you a step at a time without you having to read lots of information before starting a project.Lots of instructions and photos showing exactly how to manipulate your photos.It seemed expensive but when I compared it to other similar products on the same subject, there was nothing that came close to it.
