Seriously, I'll never use more than 25% of what this thing does. But I'll never ride without it again. I have a profile for road and another for mountain. The customizable screen lets me see exactly what I want and need and nothing more or less. It's a bit fidgety to learn, you will need to spend some time, but it's so worth figuring it out. Sometimes I just go ride. I point at a landmark feature and just go. It has saved me from getting lost in the burbs and the wilderness many times. The return home feature is outstanding. Other times I look at google earth and plan a route that I've never been on before. Using Garmin connect on my PC I've been able to plot trails to exacting accuracy. Then upload them to the Garmin. I always end up where I think I will. Battery lasts for many rides, for me. (My rides are usually less than 25 miles.) My only complaint is that it's hard to talk some of my friends into buying one because of the price. In my opinion the price is justified. I wish my friends would take the plunge because another feature this device has is pairing with friends. They will become blips on your map. You'll never lose a rider again! Brilliant piece of kit. I've never used a cycling computer before but it's better than any app I've tried on my phone. even the one that came with my ebike. The Garmin automatically connected to my bike and shows me all the pertinent metrics.

Fantastic cycling computer. Bought this to replace my aged Garmin 520. The speed of the computer (not me) is much improved, as are the graphics and ease of use. Setup was also quite simple and I was able to use my existing sensors.

I purchased the Garmin Edge 840 as a replacement for my Edge 530, and I've been very pleased with the upgrade. The larger screen is easier to read while riding, and the addition of touchscreen functionality provides a more modern and capable user experience. There is a bit of a learning curve. Initially, I found the touchscreen somewhat finicky, especially compared to the button-only operation of the 530. However, once I became familiar with how the device is designed to be used, the benefits became apparent. What I appreciate most is the amount of useful information the Edge 840 provides while I'm on the bike. The navigation, ride metrics, and on-the-fly data screens give me a much better understanding of my ride as it unfolds, helping me make informed decisions about pace, effort, and routing. Overall, this has been a significant upgrade and a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to move up from an older Garmin cycling computer.

I use it almost every day. Works as expected. I had another model 30 plus years ago until it started to have pixels die on the screen. I've had this new one for over a year now and it's still working as if was brand new. I use it for cadence, speed, distance, tracking and mapping rides. Stays charged for long periods of time without having to charge it. I did have to buy the cadence and the speedometer separately so again it's not a cheap.

I have been a Garmin user for many years. I love all their products. I have watched as their products have become more reliable and user-friendly. The Edge 840 is the latest, and in my opinion, the best of their head units. Everything works and works well. The wireless sensors, the rear radar unit, the front headlight, the HR monitor—they all work great together. Syncing up all the various components and sensors is seamless and works right, every time. As a bonus I can sync up my Dexcom G7 CGM and get instant glucose readings during my bike rides—no more fear of bonking during a long ride. The touch screen works great, not even raindrops, or perspiration, affects the display. The 840, unlike the 830, also has buttons which work effectively and quickly. The new GPS chip is far more accurate than in the past. The Climb Pro feature is awesome. The 840 has far more features that I could ever hope to use, but the features that I do use work exceedingly well. If you are deciding between the 840 and the 540, I would recommend the 840.

I'm old enough to remember when Garmin was the KING of satnav. My, how times have changed. I picked this up as I was getting back into cycling and didn't want to risk putting my iPhone Pro on the handlebars if I didn't have to. Also I wanted to capture ride telemetry, using heart, cadence, and speed sensors. For something that just collects telemetry, records my ride, syncs it to Strava & Apple Health... the Garmin Edge 840 gets a solid B+. Things take a much darker turn when you try to actually use it to navigate anywhere. There's a cascading underworld of menus to go through to try to navigate to anything. But the play here really is to open your phone that you thought you wouldn't need anymore... go into the Garmin Connect app, set your start point and end point by tapping on them on a map (because place names or addresses might confuse it)... then fix the bad route it suggests because it'll put you on hiking paths that no bike belongs on. Or it'll dump you on streets with zero bicycle infrastructure when there's a perfectly good greenway path nearby. Then once you get going, there's a good chance it'll get confused and ask you to U-turn for no reason at all. Or lose track of where the next waypoint is. It's really comically bad at navigation. Now imagine if you're too young to have lived through it what 25 year old electronic devices might have been like to navigate. Then imagine what the Temu version would have been like, if Temu had been around. The user interface on the Garmin Edge 840 is like that. "Clunky" would be a bit too kind a word to describe it. The tiny screen size makes matters worse. Especially when it's very low resolution. And moreover, it has an auto brightness setting that is almost always too dark for the given ambient light. It works well with Ant+ sensors, no problem. It pairs with my phone, no problem. If you cut the number of buttons in half, and just made it more of a "ride recorder", then cut the price in half... it might just work. But for what it claims to be, utter failure. The sad thing is, the cycling industry doesn't know how much better it could be. So this is one of the best in class products out there. This is a really depressed class. I really wanted to give it one or two stars. But it's Christmas season. I'll thank it for the great job of syncing my rides to Apple Health + Strava, and give it a third star. Call it the Christmas star. But make no mistake... this stinks. I'm going back to putting my phone on the handlebar and hoping for the best. Because Google Maps *crushes* this. And I can sync the ride sensors directly to my Apple Watch and record my outdoor ride workouts from there. What do I even need this thing for?

My device ceased to charge or work today. I assume their is a guarantee on the product and I am entitled to have it fixed or replaced.
