Wonderful Musical Biopic...Not Cole's True Life Story But Colorful & Fun
Yes, this takes great license with Cole Porter's story. I would consider it a fictional account. The actual Cole Porter enjoyed this movie and Grant's depiction of himself. There's many delightful musical numbers of his more well-known songs--about 24 of Cole's songs are featured in this film. Cary Grant is his usual charismatic self as Cole, though he does not resemble Porter physically. There were no indications of Porter being gay in this film--it was made in 1946, and depictions of homosexuality was prohibited by the film industry's production code, or the Hays Code. (However, clever filmmakers found ways to get around the Code with subtext that could identify a character as gay. An example is Mrs. Danvers in the 1940 film "Rebecca" or Peter Lorre's Joel Cairo in "The Maltese Falcon.")This is a delightful film for the entire family. There's a slew of famous film actors and actresses such as Monty Woolley, Jane Wyman, Eve Arden, Mary Martin, Dorothy Malone and others who later went on to become major stars in movies and TV. The musical numbers are as lavish as any MGM musical. I recommend this movie not for its accuracy of Cole Porter's life, but for its entertainment value and featuring some of Porter's most beloved songs.

Good Entertainment about Cole Porter
Cary Grant and other actors did a very good job and rec this entertaining plus also sad about Cole Porter's physical struggles with his legs. It's not accurate portraying him as a married man which but enjoyed the actress that was his wife who loved him dearly. The singing and dancing was worth watching too.

Great story about Cole and Linda Porter
A wonderful review of Cole and Linda Porter's struggles and Cole's success with songs and music. It skips over the one side of Cole that is depicted in another movie.I have watched this movie many times. It is great if you love his songs.

Picture quality offered me a true delight! The artistry
This edition of "Night and Day" is crafted to perfection. I suggest that you rush with your purchase. The quality of disc is tops. Picture quality offered me a true delight! The artistry, the genius of Cary Grant, had reached new heights in this movie. The make-up crew gave Cary Grant character's face, here, a heavy applications throughout, so at times he has this haunted look. But it is our brilliant Cary Grant all the same. Again you have to see it to believe it. Unsurpassed! Thrown into the "package" here is one of the most beautiful musical-ballet combination titled "The Beguine". The theme, the delivery of choreography, the colors, costumes, all in all, it is a piece of art delivered by Michael Curtiz and repeatedly it gives me an unforgettable two hours of joy, whenever I see it. I came to the conclusion that the value of this movie is so unshakeable. Undoubtedly, without comparison.in it's beauty

Highly Fictionalized Biography, but Filled With Great Music
The life story of Cole Porter was highly fictionalized for the 1946 public. Probably truer to life was the film ''De-Lovely'', which frankly told of gay Cole Porter's mostly "white" (sexless) marriage of convenience to the wealthy, striking Linda Lee Thomas Porter. The performer in "De-Lovely" who portrays the great Ethel Merman captures "The Merm's" vocal style and personality beautifully. In "Night and Day", Ethel is a conglomeration of some different characters played by Jane Wyman, Ginnie Simms and probably some others. Only Mary Martin gets to portray herself. The "Night and Day" film is a treat musically to the eyes and ears, and if you don't mind mostly fictional biographies, you'll definitely enjoy this one.

Not really accurate biography of Cole Porter. Nonetheless my wife enjoyed it.
A lot of great music. You have to have a heart of stone to not enjoy Porter's music.
