Acurate and easy to use
I bought this item to check if I was doing the 'recommended' 10,000 steps a day (and I was!). I was surprised at the size of this unit (nice and small to fit in pocket or on belt without being bulky) but still has a very clear readout. I tested it by counting my steps (first 100 exactly recorded) and then a further 200 which, again, were recorded to the exact amount (total 300). I can not fault its accuracy. Just to note that the unit, once initiated, is self zeroing at midnight. I can see no reference to this in the instructions. This is not a problem just an observation as I tried to zero it and could not! As for the calibration of exact strides the instructions are a little confusing. In essence what you do is pace out a normal 10 strides (walking steps) and measure total length. Then divide this by 10 which gives an average walking stride which can be fed into the unit to be used as a more accurate means of calculating distances. All round, very satisfied, good bit if useful kit.

Good, reliable, basic aid to walking
I'm glad I bought this, especially as it's not horrendously expensive (it is a simple device after all). I chose it because it didn't do too much, and has a reputation for accuracy. In some ways, after quite a lot if use, I wish I had bought one with more features, as it has excited my interest in the statistics and I would like to know more - this is probably only out of curiosity, rather than because extra stats are useful to me. In summary, it measures "ordinary" steps, distance covered, calories and "aerobic" steps. It is definitely simple to set up, change the settings, and to use. It asks you to input your height and weight (either kg or pounds), from which, it estimates your step size - you can change this figure. It is a calculator rather than a GPS receiver. So, keep an eye on your step size during use, as it will vary according to the terrain you are on - my average varies between 22" (hill-climbing) and 29"(road-walking). This variable can make the distance measured, which it does by way of simply multiplying number of steps by set step size, misleading. So, I get around this by resetting my step size from time to time, in accordance with the type of walking I am doing. If you're not too bothered by the measured distance figure, then don't bother. I am bothered, so I may well check out my average step size by doing the sums afterwards and resetting the measurement ready for when I do the same sort of walk again. I like it because 1. it definitely encourages me to walk, and to walk faster (it measures ordinary steps and "aerobic" steps i.e. where you do more than 60 steps per minute over at least 10 minutes). I therefore set out to do the recommended 10,000 "aerobic" steps per day, as the ordinary steps are far too easy to achieve. Believe me, you don't have to do much to get to 6000 ordinary steps per day, if that's your target; but if you want to lose weight, go for the "aerobic" figure. 2. I can put it anywhere whilst walking (take care with the clip as it's not that secure) 3. it seems accurate 4. it's easy to flick between the stats as you go along. All in all, a useful aid and value for money.

Excellent product
This pedometer may be slightly more expensive than the basic models available elsewhere, but I would say that you get what you pay for. The pedometer is well packaged, and even comes with a miniature screwdriver for removing the battery cover when this is required. The instructions are clearly written in English, as you would expect from a Japanese manufacturer. The diagrams are easy to follow, and the pedometer itself is easy to set up and use. The pedometer is light, and measures approximately 3 inches long by 1 1/4 inches wide. The clip holds the pedometer in a firm grip, and it clips tightly on a belt. From my brief experience the pedometer is accurate in recording the number of steps I take around the office and at home; it is easier to use than a smartphone app as it is always in a pocket or on your belt, whereas a mobile may be left on your desk so will not record all steps. If you want a well-made piece of kit that is unobtrusive and appears to be accurate, I would recommend this product.

Great if you have good eyesight
The software is very good. The steps are accurate once calibrated and they are split into normal and aerobic. Cals burnt is an estimate but it is consistent so useful to track. Very pleased as I chose Omron as they do other medical equipment so should be reliable. The bad side however is the screen. It occupies a small area of the unit and the figures are readable but the writing is tiny. Its very much outdated hardware and not necessary these days. This unit needs a simple update. Hence 3 stars.

After 2 weeks of using it.
I have been using this pedometer for about 2 weeks now on and off and I am really impressed by it. First of all if you not been very active over the last few years then doing 10,000 steps daily can be a struggle. So my advice is to be gentle with yourself and just do the best you can to begin with. The pedometer itself is very accurate although the instructions you get with it are not very clear so you may have some difficulty setting up the unit first time around. My advice is to go online to Omron website and download the instructions from there, which are much better and easier to understand and are in bigger font size too!! The clip you get with the pedometer seems okay at first sight but after wearing it for a while the unit does tend to move around and may eventually come lose off the clip and get lost. So my advice would be to get a security strap to secure it to your clothing or just use your pocket for carrying the unit. The unit is very small and light and when carrying in your pocket you will hardly notice it's there. It does it's job quietly while you carry on with your day. At the end of the day you can look at the screen to see how many steps you taken. It automatically resets the step count to 0 at the end of the day. However, note that you can't reset the step count yourself manually during the day. This is not a problem for me as I only wish to know how active I've been during the whole day not at a specific time period. The unit has a 7 day memory so you can look back at the week to see how active you been on each past day. Buttons have a slight resistance to them when pushed so this is a good thing as there is no chance of buttons being pushed unnecessarily while the unit is in your pocket or bag. I did email Omron about wearing the pedometer around your neck on a lanyard and they replied back and said it was okay to wear it but suggested that only concern might be that the pedometer might be wobbling around when around the neck which may count some false steps. So either wear it under your vest so it doesn't wobble around or just stick in the pocket or bag. I personally just stick it in my pocket! It does give you an aerobic step count also so if you wish to know how much exercise you done by walking then this is a good function to have. I just look at the step count and try to aim for 10,000 a day. Other functions include: calories, distance, and time. Lastly, it does help in making you more active and making you more conscious of how much you doing each day. Without a pedometer you may actually be fooled into thinking you done good amount of activity in the day but only really done a fraction of the steps for good health! Sometimes towards the end of the afternoon I am shocked to discover that I have only done a few thousand steps so this makes me feel guilty and I end up going for a stroll around the block a few times and bingo! I've accomplished my 10,000 steps!! It does make you think about your activity level so is good for the health :-) Nothing much else to say really except you won't go wrong with buying this Omron Walking Style One 2.1 Pedometer! After a few weeks of 10,000 steps you be feeling great about yourself and won't regret the small price of the unit!!

Got My Motivation Back Using This
I'm addicted to walking since I bought this - which was the whole point. Very easy to set up, and is making me motivated to walk. Only minus is the step count resets to zero at midnight, so if you want to keep a record of your progress write it down somewhere. It counts steps. It doesn't use bluetooth or monitor your sleep like expensive trackers do. It's a basic clip on pedometer. You can't shake it and fake how many steps you've taken. It comes with a large sturdy clip on hook that helps you put it on your waist band of pants or skirt etc. It didn't pick up my steps when I clipped it to my blouse but it works perfectly on my hip on waistband of trousers at work. Comes in white also but I wanted black to match my trousers and hide it from plain sight.

Simple to set up, easy and accurate to use
Brilliant little pedometer. It's compact and simple, with just the absolute basic info, which is what I wanted - time, number of steps and equivalent distance, either in miles or kilometres. Incredibly easy to set up - I didn't even need to look at the instructions, and it took me less than a minute. I work evenings in a busy supermarket and wanted to know just how much walking around I do, which this little gadget measures accurately; I checked that it didn't just add steps from the slightest movement - you really need to walk to make it work. You can pop it in a front pocket but I prefer to use the separate clip which fits firmly on my waistband. When I get home I just press and hold the 'Mode' button which flashes 'Clr' then press 'Set' and the day's steps are deleted, ready for the next day. Couldn't be easier or more convenient, and well worth the money.

An unfortunate purchase
I have already given this product a poor rating but thinking perhaps I had been unfair I gave it another go. I pressed the left hand button and got the 5 X 8 symbols as previously then pressed the centre button to select mode. I got a flashing option for either lb or kg - but nothing else. I clipped the instrument to my belt and set off on a shopping trip that was at least 3 kg. When I checked on my return nothing had been recorded. Perhaps the manufacturer could tell me what I had done wrong, why wasn't the thing recording? Quite disappointed.

Goed instelbaar
