Trigun Deluxe Edition Hardcover – September 10, 2024

The heft, quality, and love that went into this volume is far greater than I initially anticipated. I originally pre-ordered this back in May of '23, and was not the biggest fan of the mock-ups showing a yellow cover with blue lettering. Boy was I surprised to see this book when it arrived on my doorstep, not only because I had not kept up with the delays, but also to see it in a marvelous red leather that matches Vash's iconic coat! (And to have the manga revolver engraved into the cover instead of the anime one that was pictured in the yellow mockups haha.)The faux leather cover is plush and thick; this book is going to hold off wear for a long time. This book is the nicest one I own by a country mile in terms of build quality, and feels very in line with the old leather-cover Louis La'mour western novels, just in red instead of brown. The pages are crisp, the ribbon bookmark is welcome, the back cover info card isn't even attached to the book, and the barcode sticker comes off the back with no residue.In terms of differences between this Deluxe Edition and the previous Omnibus paperback volume (which I thankfully did get the full set of back when they were in print), the exact same translation is used; I don't mind this at all, but I know there was the fan-retranslation project going on that rose hopes that Dark Horse may have been wanting to retranslate the entire series. Dark Horse did go through and add small clarifying text for the sound effects this time, which is nice. The contents pages at the front and the chapter numbers were changed to align with the entire omnibus volume instead of within each tankobon volume; for example, "Diablo" is listed as Chapter #14 in the Deluxe Edition, rather than #2 (of Volume 2) in the Omnibus. For clarification, the tankobon volume covers and contents are still present as before, which is good. In another change from the omnibus, the last several pages of the Deluxe Edition are on quality photopaper and contain color pages with artwork from previous editions, including a double page spread of the artwork used for the front and back cover of the original Omnibus volume! None of that artwork was in the Omnibus version, and the Maximum Omnibus #5 only had color pages from the Maximus run, so this might be the first time we've gotten these in the West like this. In terms of the normal chapter art, it is the same pages and layout of the original paperback Omnibus, just on larger pages, which lay flat beautifully and are much easier to read.All in all, I have already pre-ordered all the remaining Deluxe Edition volumes to complete the set (except of course Maximus #5, since it has yet to appear on Amazon). This book, and Lord willing the rest of them after they come out, will sit on my shelves for a long time and be passed down and around for friends and family to read; I have no worries about how well these will hold up, especially compared to the old paperbacks I've re-read countless times that are showing their age. Thank you, Nightow, for getting these done this well, and thank you, Dark Horse, for putting in such hard effort on these. This Trigun volume feels like I am holding a brand-new old book.

I was paranoid about the translation complaints. Yes they're valid but in my opinion overblown and if you know the material can ignore the mistakes or explain them away. Comparing the large body of the text it's pretty close to the current gold standard fan translation. I'll agree that version is superior but this is plenty good for just a good affordable collection. The product's beautiful and well-made, comes with a little bookmark ribbon, has the pilot chapter in the back. Got it on sale and for the price I got it was DEFINITELY worth it. Not too sure about normal price but that's your call. I'm happy with it.

I do not understand why this is getting such negative reviews. I've loved the anime for years and waited for a reprint of the manga. I've only read the first volume of the original manga. It seems to be the same translation, but I'm not noticing any critical translation error, maybe because I never read the original and I don't know Japanese.Anyway, I don't understand what is missing here. The large format looks amazing. It has a small but effective gallery of the original cover arts at the end. It's big, good looking, and I'm having a blast reading it.The only negative I can agree with is that the golden letters are printed using some cheap color which comes off, or at least, can come off relatively easy (it can be scratched off easily even by mistake). Indeed poor execution of the gold graphics.HOWEVER - this is a very decent way to read Trigun, I believe. I read manga and comics all the time, and I see nothing wrong with it. I suppose it does not bring value to those who already own the original - but why the hell would you spend 44 dollars to read a manga you already own?If you do own an earlier version of the book, you should probably not waste money on the same book (this goes to every "deluxe version" of any comic). It's the same book but bigger, and reprints are only called "deluxe" so they can charge more money out of the people who DON'T have the original. Of course it's not "better" than having the original manga.Update: after finishing the entire thing, I understand that I forgot to mention something critical, perhaps because I've watched the anime so many years ago and forgot a lot about it.That thing is - this manga is absolutely amazing. Seriously. It's got everything a manga/anime fan can hope for, and a lot more. To sum it up in one sentence - there are few works in the field that combine such awesomeness with such heart.

So I'm half way through the volume and I haven't seen any your/you're misspelling. Sempai isn't wrong just outdated. Its traditional hepburn, senpai is modified hepburn. Millie/milly is pretty much the same name, both are correct ways to spell it. Rem seibrem/rem saverem.. japanese don't have a v in their language. They use the b sound in place of v. If you spelled the name out in romanji it would be remu seiburemu. At one point they use the word pardner instead of partner, thats not wrong either.. just Google it.This was one of the first mangas I ever got when I was a kid and its a great story. If you want to buy it then just buy it. Don't let the bad reviews of misspellings and translation issues stop you. Like I said, I'm half way through and haven't encountered anything bad enough to make me want to return it and I doubt I will in the second half. Just enjoy the story in this great larger format!

If you like Trigun this is worth every penny. Beautiful Deluxe Volume with pho leather cover and oversized pages, plus a bookmark ribbon. Can't wait to get the Trigun Maximum Volumes. Comes wrapped in plastic to protect the cover.
