They are very slip-proof and heavy weight. They can be screwed down and feel good on my feet.
In September of 2025, I bought these Spurtar Rubber Stair Treads 35" x 10", 5 PCS Non-Slip Outdoor Stair Treads for Wooden Steps and Concrete Marble Tile Metal Steps. They really help me while walking up and down my basement steps, especially when I am wearing socks -- which is almost all the time. The tread surface is comfortable to walk on. They provide a firm grip. I feel safe because the stair treads are no longer slippery. Some of the other rubber treads I read about have 90-degree lips on their front edge. The reviews said that type of mat doesn't work well on my type of stairs. My 84 year old house's basement staircase treads each have a bull nose front edge on them. The right-angle front edge on many of the rubber step mats would cause a tripping hazard going up my stairs because their profile doesn’t match my stair tread’s profile -- the right angle profile of these other rubber mats don’t attach well to the bottom edge of my type of rounded off bull nose stair tread. With the other mats, their front edge hangs down and out so that its bottom edge can catch onto the top of your toe. Mid-step you cannot raise your foot upward even though your body’s center of gravity is passing ever-forward during the climbing up of each step. Falling up stairs can hurt. Also, when going down the steps, because the right-angled front edge of the mat isn’t as rigid as the wooden step and because it can’t be attached firmly to the rounded front edge of my wooden steps, there is a small area in the other mats that “gives way” too much: the back edge of your heel pushes down against the front edge of the mat, and you slip off the step. Worded another way, they could make you fall down the steps as your heel slips off the front top corner of those other mats. Another thing I found out when looking for mats is that almost every mat has the wrong dimension for either its depth or its width, or both. My basement stair treads are only 9-inches deep [at the point the bull nose edge starts to curve downward] by 36-inches wide. I needed a mat that I could easily cut off part of the back edge, if needed. I also wanted a mat that was about as wide as my stair treads. This mat looked good on paper. It has a red line showing the front edge of the mat. It has factory-provided holes for using screws to hold it down. Taking all that into account, I decided to go with this product, inside and outside. I ordered four sets of these new mats. They work great inside and I am confident, once I install the rest of them outside, they will work well outside too. After they were delivered, I found out three nice things. I did not need to “air them out” before I installed them. Many of the other mats have some critical reviews about how those other rubber mats stink. These mats don’t; well, my mats don't smell. Also, the product description does not show the shipping weight for the five mats??? Are they heavy duty or light weight? Yes, they are heavy duty! These mats also laid down fairly flat, even though they are shipped rolled up in the box. I didn’t need to set them aside for a week, rolled out flat with weights on them to get them flat. The front edge of the treads were a bit wavy, right when they were rolled out of the box and first laid flat on the steps. The screws fixed this issue Also, I skipped the double-sided tape and screwed them onto my wooden steps instead. They include tiny screws to do that. There are six holes in these mats that are especially formed to hold screws, three in the front and three in the back. Instead, I chose to use ¾-inch-long black truss headed screws, because their large-diameter head profile grips onto more surface area of the mats to hold them in place better. These truss head screws also are fairly flat, so I don’t feel them when I step on them in socks. These screws are listed as “BCP Fasteners #8 x 3/4", 100 Qty Phillips Small Black Modified Truss Head Screws”. I am very happy with how well they worked out too. I’ll find a use for the provided double-sided tape later. It’s always good to have some laying around for when you need it to stick something to something else. Please note that my very positive review is only for the Spurtar product described in the reviews as: Size: 35*10"-5 Pack Color: Black-Triangular Number of Items: 5. This review is not for another Spurtar product, described as, Size: 35*9.85"-3 Pack Color: Black-Diamond Number of Items: 3 or 6 Items. Those items are all-black [no red strip], have diamond-shaped treads, and have 90-degree front edges that goes downward to cover the front edge of the step. The reviews for the two different products are listed together [intermingled] on Amazon, but you can distinguish between their differing reviews by noticing their product description.

Good Product but install info could be a lot better
I wanted to do a "semi permanent" install on these wooded stairs, so I chose to use both the double back tape and screws. The biggest problem is no one, no where tells you how much tape they gave you. After a good bit of trial and error, I can tell you that each roll is approximately 12' in length. I chose to use the tape on the leading edges so for the 6 steps, I got 12 strips each about 11 1/2 to 12" in length. The treads (even after a few days warming inside were still not perfectly flat on the surface or the lip. Here is the approach I used and am happy with the result. 1) I installed my 2 tape strips on the leading edges, leaving the backing tape on, placing both semi centered between the middle and ends. 2) I used a template to place the mat on the stair and anchored the back right corner with a screw. 3) I stretched the mat toward the left until smooth and anchored the back left corner. 4) I lifted up the anchored mat away from the leading edge and removed the backing tape (probably the hardest part with fat fingers and no nails). 5) I stretched the mat forward to ensure a proper fit over the edge and pressed in the tapes. 6) I then placed 5 screws on the leading edge, starting with the two corners, center and two in between. 7) I used the final screw in the center back after a final smoothing of the mat. All of this was done for 12 steps using a bag of 100 modified truss screws (amazon). I had a few left over, so if any lips still seemed a bit "unflat", I added an extra screw. Hope this helps, it should make the install go a lot quicker.

Very pleased, Great quality rubber
I am really happy with these mats. They are good quality rubber with good grip. I especially like that the red strip which looks sleek and it has red rubber embedded into the black rubber and not painted on which would show wear. They lay perfectly flat. I used the included double-sided tape which worked great. These are designed and manfactured well. They look awesome on my deck stairs. They have a classy look and great appeal. I would definitely buy these mats again.

Safe, effective and attractive
Great product. I use them outside to add traction to my wooden deck stairs. The weight was enough that I didn’t affix them permanently - yet. (Winter may be different). Great for my mobility and that of my small dogs. Attractive. The illumination is wonderful for night.
