Global icon and recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Dolly Parton, has joined forces with some of rock music's most legendary artists along with today's biggest stars for her first-ever rock album, Rockstar. The ever-evolving Parton teamed up with an all-star roster of musicians for the 30-song collection which includes 9 original tracks and 21 covers of iconic rock anthems. 4 LP set. Review: One of the best albums ever - I bought this for my Sweetheart, but I heard it first. Dolly is covering other people's songs and doing it in her own unique way which is very innovative. She doesn't try to sound like the original performers. There is a dynamite Dolly take on each of them. Each performance could easily have been a top notch hit single. I love everything on this album. I'm not even a big-time Dolly fan. I tend to trend twoards The Beatles and The Grateful Dead, but this is just one of the best albums ever, perfect engaging performances in every way. I mean her version of "Let It be" has Paul McCartney on it! And, she does "Heart of Glass," too. The song "RockStar" is a fantastic upbeat way to open the album. I don't dislike Dolly. There are many of her songs I think are great. But this album is Dolly departing from Country Dolly and knocking it out of the park. I absolutely LOVE it. She does, "Purple Rain," "Satisfaction," and "Stairway to Heaven." I could go on and on with praise for this one. This is the Dolly you never knw was there. Review: Wow! DOLLY CAN ROCK! Amazing album - I was Pleasantly surprised at how well Dolly can sing rock. There are really some outstanding duets on this album. Especially the one with Steven Tyler And melissa etheridge. "Purple Rain" will give you goosebumps all over, it has a Spiritual feeling to the song. "Bitter sweet" is another beautiful Dolly duet! "Bittersweet" could be one of Dolly's best written songs ever! "Free bird" at the end of the album is absolutely amazing! Dolly's vocals are brilliant and heavenly on this album. You can really tell that she had a ton of fun singing these songs and bringing all these artists together. The album packaging is beautiful as well, it has lots of photos. I would highly recommend this album on cd, vinyl or download. The more you hear this album the better it becomes and you just start belting out the songs with her! This would make an excellent addition to your music collection.

Fun Classics Dollyfied
This is a long 2 disc set of some very familiar rock anthems. You will probably know the words to almost all of the songs. For Dolly's voice, they don't all work, but so has brought on the original singers to help her out on many of the tracks. Now she has kept almost all of the old arrangements, so don't look for anything besides basic covers, but Dolly has picked stuff that we don't mid hearing again. I enjoyed the package, with a couple of songs that could have been left off. Honestly I don't think her version on any of them was better than the originals, but they are mostly pretty good and as a group, you can put these discs on and let them run for the 2 1/2-hour length without needing to change the music. Perhaps her main fans might prefer her doing Country, but I liked "Rockstar" a lot without being a big Dolly Parton fan.

Not her best, but not bad
This album came about because Dolly was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She then made an off the cuff comment about needing to then make a rock album. The album just kind of grew (and grew and grew) from there. This is NOT Dolly's first album of rock covers, nor is it her first album to feature a who's who of guest stars. She's done three previous album of pop/rock covers, "The Great Pretender" in 1984, "Treasures" from 1996 and "Those Were The Days" in 2005. "RockStar" is just getting WAY more hype. There are 30 songs on this album, that's a lot to take in. Not everything works, and yes, it could have probably been a great single disc, 15-20 song album. But she left nothing on the table. The album opens with on a cringy note with her "parents" telling her to turn down that noise. Not a great way to kick off a "serious" rock album. "World On Fire" on of the nine originals on the album is one of the stronger tracks, in fact an album of just her originals would have made for a fine album. "I Want You Back" with Steven Tyler and "Tried To Rock And Roll Me" with Melissa Etheridge are both standouts. Of the covers, there are three BIG ones on here, "Purple Rain", "Stairway To Heaven" and "Free Bird". She does a decent job on all three. No, they don't surpass the original versions, but they aren't supposed to. Many people of covered "Purple Rain" and no one has ever heard one of those covers and thought "Now THAT'S how Prince should have done it!!!". Dolly's version is no different, but it's decent. This is her second stab at "Stairway To Heaven", her first attempt is a gospel take on her 2002 album "Halos & Horns". This time around she sticks to the original arrangement. "Free Bird" features the vocals of Ronnie Van Zandt and it creates a haunting feel. There is one other original song on the album, "What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You" written by Stevie Nicks, who appears on the track. The song was demoed around the time of Stevie's 1985 album "Rock A Little". It's a fun track, although the song does contain some lighthearted banter between Stevie and Dolly. This type of banter pops up here and there across the album. Dolly does it to show she's having fun, but it gives the songs an almost novelty feel, as if they didn't already have that. Dolly's voice has aged, as have the voices of many of the guests. Had she done this album 20-25 years ago, I think it would have made for a better album. If you didn't know, you wouldn't guess that it was Steve Perry on "Open Arms" or Kevin Cronin on "Keep On Loving You". It sounds like someone doing a bad impression of Michael McDonald on the otherwise great "Bittersweet". Elton John, Rob Halford, Paul McCartney and Emmylou Harris really show their ages on their tracks. Is it Dolly's best album? No. Is the album for everyone? No. Fans of the original songs may not like what she's done to them, but fans of Dolly will probably like the album. The album has been talked about for almost a full year. Now it's here and although there is a lot to digest, there is a lot to like. More to like, than dislike.

Fantastic CD from start to finish!
I have to admit I haven't bought any Dolly Parton CDs in my life, but when I saw all the duets with rockin' songs I had to get it (especially with Steve Perry!) Wow what an amazing CD! Even the Rockstar song is fantastic!! Dolly does not disappoint. She still sounds amazing and the songs are all great, I honestly like all of them (there are new songs and a few I had never heard in my life). I was going to download it but it didn't include Free Bird so I bought the CD. So glad I did -- the song is fantastic and she got permission to use Ronnie Van Zant's voice, which is amazing in and of itself. Love this CD!!!

Great album!
I bought this for my mom as a Christmas gift. She's a huge Dolly fan. I couldn't find this vinyl anywhere in stores and I was honestly a little nervous buying a vinyl off Amazon. I was worried it would be damaged during shipping or the product wouldn't be quality. Thankfully I was wrong! The vinyl came package very well and protected! It looked like any vinyl you'd buy in a store and my mom loved it. This is a THICK box set. Its in a literal mini box, not like a normal sleeved vinyl. and it comes with a lot of great artwork inside the box with the vinyls. Its definitely a great collectors set. If you like Dolly - you need this in your collection!

Dolly Parton goes Rock 🤘🎸
