This set comes with a lot of items to assist a child in all kinds of outdoor exploration! There's a whistle with a compass on the side. There is a long lanyard, a short lanyard, and rings that will all fit pretty much every item to help carry items in your hand, around your neck or wrist if they are not in the included backpack. There is an extending catch net. A bug catcher. A bug box viewer that has a scope on top so you can look close up at whatever is in the box. The box comes with straps that need to be put together by an adult. The side of the box illustrates how to put the strap together. There are 2 clips, one orange, one green, that can be used to hold the strap on the viewer box. The clips not used on the strap can be used to keep the box closed if you don't have the straps on it. The entire top will come off the viewer box, or you can just open the part of the box that's holding the magnifying viewer. There are little binoculars that can be adjusted to fit just about any size kid. The binoculars can be folded for storage. There is a set of oversized tweezers. There is also a handheld magnifying glass, and goggles if things get messy! There are also 12 pages included that are for "painting" some of the things the child might see in their surroundings. These pages are a bit slick. I think I would make color photo copies of the pages so that crayons would be easier to use on the pages, and to have extra copies in order for more than one child to enjoy that part of the set. The back of the backpack has a stiff board that has a grid and a magnetic clip board to hold paper for taking notes or drawing what they see. The backpack has adjustable straps to wear on the back, and also has a strap on top so it can be carried more like a case. There is enough room in the backpack to carry everything included in the set along with a few other items that may be needed during exploration.I think this is a great set to get kids outdoors learning about their environment. Any time we can encourage our children to get outside in the fresh air, the healthier our children will be. This set is aged 3 years and up. A 3 year old would need constant adult supervision while using this set. 5 - 10 year Olds would be able to enjoy this set independently, however, it's always fun for children to share their experiences with a parent or guardian.

My kids love catching bugs. This is an adorable set. They love all the things in this package that allow them to be little explorers. They’ve caught so many gross bugs and they love it. This is a great set for any little adventurer.
