A must-read. Period.
Picture this: You walk into a store and easily know what NOT to buy. No, not because of the price, but because of the environmental impact of the products. For example, non-eco-friendly cleaning products or fast fashion clothingThis is just an example, but in this book, you'll find plenty of them. That's the power of this impactful book, which presents numerous eye-opening examples.I've been following Aakash's (Author) work for a while now, and needless to say, it's exceptional. I follow him everywhere and watched his TED talks. So when I knew he was launching his book, I didn't have second thoughts, I pre-ordered it. I thought he must have included information from his TED talks too. But, oh boy, I was wrong. It's beyond it. Let me tell you how --1: He divides the book into 10 chapters, and from chp 2 to 8, he speaks of various sectors that are the cause of climate change, like -- Food & beverages, Textiles, Tech, Cosmetics, etc.2: Again each chapter has 3 parts in common:> 1st: The questionnaire. It was both fun and guilt filling the questions.> 2nd: The author dives deep into the negative impacts of each industry, revealing hidden truths and providing insightful infographics. He also offers practical ways for individuals, organizations, and governments to embrace sustainability.> 3rd: Valuable Resources. If you ever feel you must know more about one sector, this part is for you. He provides - books, ted talks/documentaries, people to follow, shops, and more, with LINKS!3: Though we say, climate change is a crisis, we hardly treat it like one. This book pushes you to take small initiatives that can make a great impact in the long run. After all, every emission counts.4: It's beginner-friendly. Even if you're not an expert in climate change, you'll be able to understand the information in this book.5: It captivates readers with an amazing flow and great storytelling skills.6: It covers a lot of sectors with a lot of POVs from industry leaders who are embracing sustainability. Eg: Nithin Kamath, Mandeep Manocha, etc.7: The author is the epitome of "Lead as an example", which is evident throughout and further emphasized on the cover page.8: It sets itself apart by taking a unique approach, by providing a lot of factual information and thorough research, making it trustworthy and credible. Aakash's dedication to investigating the topic thoroughly gives readers a reliable and solid source.9: It acts as a wake-up call highlighting the environmental impact of our everyday choices.10: Lastly, it will make you think twice about the products you buy, the food you eat, and the way you travel. Change begins with awareness
I've been living in the mountains for very long. Having lived in the city, I could see a stark difference in lifestyles.Sustainability became more than a buzzword. This book managed to capture my thoughts really well. As Aakash said in his, we are deliberately kept away from the consequences of our seemingly small actions. The read is an eye opener. Facts that you cannot ignore are kept right in front of you. You can literally measure your carbon footprint, and how it just keeps on increasing with every single life decision you make.I believe change begins with awareness, and Climate Optimist did that for me.
