I bought this as a gift for my husband to learn to navigate by stars and he loves it. It’s small and doesn’t take up much space so it works for our tiny home.

I ordered this as a gift for my 17 year old son who just recently enlisted in the Marine Corps. He likes "odd" things like this, things that you don't normally see others with and he absolutely loved this.The wooden bios is well made and the sun dial/compass is as well. There is a lock switch on the side that will lock or unlock the compass, which was pretty cool.It was easy to set up and use, and easy to read as well ( if you know how to read roman numerals).Inside the box, attached to the lid, is a brass plaque with instructions on how to use and set up. The box is lined with a green velvet/flocking, and looks great paired with the wood and the shiny, finely polished brass.It is small, and "can" be carried in a pocket, backpack or purse, although it may be uncomfortable in your pocket.Looks like an antique, but remember, it is NOT, it is just a replica. A well made replica at a great price ( was priced at $29.99 USD when I ordered it, and at $26.99 USD at the time of my review).This would make a great gift for almost anyone and at an unbeatable price!
