This is a Scottish romance, with fantasy elements from folklore, and realistic character development. I particularly liked how the POV switched back and forth between the two main characters, and there were some adorable animal characters including a prankster fluffy ghost cow, a moody dog, and ravens that bring gifts. The side characters are so engaging and I’m excited to see each of them step up to protect their town using their own talents, especially Agnes. Highly recommend, fabulous summer read that will leave you smiling. Review: *4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐* Magical! - So, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this book! I'm having a REALLY awful cpl of days due to some personal issues that I was trying not to obsess about & picked this book up & read it completely in a cpl hrs! It made me smile, chuckle, & enjoy the wild ride! I REALLY enjoyed the magic aspects as well & actually would've enjoyed more in depth parts of that, as well as a bit more danger & chills. But that's just my personal flair for all things spooky & craving for spine-tingling thrills! Overall this was a feel good book w\more happening than just the romance & typical melodrama. Some parts were so good, I could scarcely contain myself & a cpl of tiny things made me roll my eyes but that's par for the course & still highly enjoyable! If romance, sarcastic banter, loving family & friends, w\a bit of magic & danger appeal to you, don't HESITATE to read this book & I'm assuming the series in general! You won't regret it unless you're cynical & just look to find fault or something. If you're not a fan of gushy love declarations & big tall muscular men in a kilt & sexual innuendo & flirting make you cringe, & you're more interested in the magical elements, this book probably isn't gonna be for you. Bc the other elements are the main characters & magic & historical magic of Scotland was more of a side piece & probably not enough to satisfy those just looking for it. This is of course just my opinion & all that jazz! Happy Reading! I'm off to binge the next in the series!

Whimsy, giggles and a touch of spice
I purchased this in February 2024. I read it when I bought it but my pet peeve is having to wait for the next in the series. So, that being said I didnt go back to it until I was scrolling through my new Kindle Unlimited subscription. And now I am up to date and I have selected all that are available (well the next one comes out in a few days, and then I have to wait until April 2026!!!!! So back to my review. I truly enjoyed the antics (Ghost Highland Coo!!) Sir Buster and Lady Lola are a warming touch not matter the growling. This story has sadness (loss), sillies (all the critters) and of course the spicy. I enjoy the touch of Magic but cant understand why they spell it with a K at the end of the work??? I have enjoyed it so much that I have made myself a list of ALL of Tricia O’Malley’s books… and I will start on those while waiting for the next in this series. Thank YOU Ms. O’Malley for all your words!!!

Great read!
I loved the sweetness of this story along with the myths and legends. The author gives the reader plenty of information on said myths and because she dives so deeply into the characters and what makes them tick, the reader is sucked right in. This is a great read and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a sweet story without crime or cruelty.

A Light, Quick Read
This was a quick, light, enjoyable read. I like books set in the Scottish highlands, although the ones I've usually read in the past are set in an earlier time period instead of modern-day. Sophia and Lachlan are opposites who on the surface seem to be an unlikely pair, but their attraction is real. The bickering/banter adds a nice touch.

An enchanting and comical modern day fantasy fairytale!
💙 Rom-Com 💙 Modern Day Fairytale 💙 Opposites Attract 💙 Cali Marketing Associate x Scottish Laird (unofficial) 💙 Small Scottish town 💙 Magic and Secret Orders 💙 Highland Cow Ghost 💙 Canine Friends 💙 LGBTQ Rep 💙 Curvy FMC 💙 All the Banter When Sophie MacKnight’s uncle passed away and left her a recently acquired castle in Scotland she thought it was just another one of her uncle’s eccentric ideas. When she gets to Scotland, she meets the grumpy Lachlan Campbell, the unofficial laird of Loren Brae and MacAlpine Castle who resents the new owner. As she gets settled in the castle, Sophie soon learns that she is the next in line to reinstate the magickal Order of Caledonia. She first has to believe in magick and train to become a knight in order to help save the town from the Kelpies. The one tasked with her training is none other than the prickly Lachlan. Sparks soon start flying between them and it’s not only due to their sword fighting. I ADORED this book and devoured it within a day! I was in the mood for a hot grumpy Scotsman in a kilt with a sassy FMC and this hit the spot! Sophie is still grieving the death of her uncle when she goes to Scotland with her BFF Matthew. She absolutely does not know what to expect, especially if her uncle has anything to do with it. They meet Lochlan at the castle and hilarious and delicious banter ensues. Sophie is such a relatable and fun character that you can’t help but root for her. She has past issues she is still trying to work through while juggling the fact that she now owns a castle, learns that magick is real, and she has to become a knight to save the town. This book had me seriously cackling with all the ridiculousness and the language barrier! Lochlan is the surly laird who just learned that his home was bought a few months ago. He’s had a lot on his plate with dealing with the Kelpies, who are wreaking havoc on the town which is resulting in loss revenue for everyone. The last thing he wants to do is teach Sophie how to be a knight and potentially fall for her, especially since everyone he has loved ends up leaving him. Lochlan is such a gruff and stubborn guy yet is protective and loyal to his friends, family, and town. He has his own issues that he needs to work through but Sophie slowly starts melting his hard exterior as the book goes on. I was enchanted by their relationship as well as all of the townspeople of Loren Brae. All of the side characters, including Sir Buster the feisty chihuahua and Clyde the ghostly highland cow, were delightful to read about! I absolutely can’t wait to see what happens next as the rest of the Order of Caledonia gets revealed!

Heartwarming and fun
I loved this opposites attract, fish out of water romance. The storyline was fun and imaginative, the characters were likable and relatable, and the writing was addictive, all drawing the reader into this magical world. I fell directly into the story on page one and only looked up after the last word. It was filled with all the emotions, the connections and the love. Lachlan is the caretaker of MacAlpine Castle in Loren Brae Scotland. He is a grumpy Scot who does not believe in the myths that his village is steeped in. Sophie lives in California and spent her teenage years living with her eccentric Scottish uncle and his 7th wife. When her uncle dies, she inherits the Castle in Scotland with some specific requirements. Sophie does not just inherit the Castle, she also has become the first Knight of the Order of the Caledonia and is tasked with protecting Clach na Fìrinn in Loren Brae. As Sophie her Knight “training” and completes her three tasks, she and Lachlan become closer. To get to their HEA and for Sophie to become the Knight, there will be baggage unpacking, leaps of faith, and fear conquering. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. 4.5 stars.
