This book gives all of the history of the 10th Mountain Division service in World War II. The Story of Men Who faced The Impossible Against All Odds

During WWII the U.S. Army watched with interest the use of Finnish ski troops against the Red Army during the Winter War and the specialized mountain troops of the German Army and in turn established what would become the 10th Mountain Division, a specialized formation largely formed from prewar skiing and mountain-climbing enthusiasts. This unique division would spend two years preparing for combat as specialized equipment was developed, would be sent to Kiska to take it back from the Japanese and would finally see combat in Italy in the last months of WWII.This book was extremely well done and includes some great photos of equipment such as the Weasel, as well as pictures of mountaineers training, using pack mules and fighting. Includes excellent original artwork.

Filled with facts. Great illustrations and pictures. My father was in the 10th almost from its beginnings. He would talk about Camp Hale and how hard the training was and how cold it was. He would also talk about going to Kiska in the Aleutians and how glad he was the Japaneses had left. He also talked about how bad the weather was on Kiska and how poorly their equipment worked. However, his experience in Italy was so intense that he would seldom talk about it. I have learned his unit had a very high number of causalities. This book helps me understand exactly what he went through.

As kind of a military buff, I always try to collect historical information on the units I have served in.The 10th has a strange way of being formed and turned out to proved them selves as part of the elite of the elite. This book highlights the action in WWII. Shows the dedication of the 10th MTN DIV original solders which is still part of the modern 10th.

Author includes a great deal of facts, dates, and figures on the topic. However, this is not a readable story. It is a reference book of facts. Disappointing.

Book contains the basic story and a lot of technical details about equipment tested and used by 10th Mt Division.

Another quick Osprey read, quality photos and accompanying text.

Good book for basic information. Not a lot of detail for a modeler. Or father of a 10 th MTN soldier, but good.
