I bought this item because the price to rent it from a local part supply house was a few dollars more than the cost of this brand new machine. I used it for my husband’s office’s fair food themed party and it worked beautifully! The ice was nicely shaved, not just crushed. It was a little messy because it throws out the shaved ice but I didn’t think it was out of the ordinary messy. Having used it, I would 💯 but this unit again! BTW, I used a recipe for homemade snow cone syrup (8C water, 8C sugar, slow boil until melted. Divided into thirds, added 1 pkt unsweetened Kool-aid to each third of cooling syrup. Stir until resolved. Cool completely. I made grape, orange and cherry. Everyone loved them!

I’m someone who eats a lot of shaved ice: I’m not sure exactly how it started but one day I started and haven’t gone a day without at least 3 massive cups of it. In about 4 months I broke a blender and two snow cone makers with my constant use and I was fed up. I’m so glad I decided to spend a little extra money on this, especially knowing I would’ve saved a lot more had I went straight for this guy. There are some cons, but shaved ice is not a tidy snack to make, so you have to expect some mess. I would have liked to be able to put a cup beneath the ice chute, as the shallow metal bowl it comes with is fine but not really the most functional when it comes to catching stray ice powder that flies everywhere, and there is meltwater that accumulates in the bowl and on the surface it’s sitting on as a result. Again, true shaved ice eaters will already know but in case you didn’t there you go. Anyway, pros! First of all, it came with replacement blades and a nifty tool to use to replace the blades or adjust them to make finer or chunkier Ice. I’ve had this for months though, and haven’t needed to change the blades and leaving them at the default setting makes the ice perfectly for me, not too powdery but not chippy either. It is loud, but the noise is far from the terrible sounds that happen when using a cheap snowcone maker or a blender (which is a terrible noise, trust me.) it instead kinda sounds like a saw or something, but it’s so powerful that it takes no time at all and you are done with the loud noise and can either enjoy your shaved ice or move on to your next batch. Using ice cubes, it makes about a cereal bowl amount of ice so it’s reasonable to expect that you can get all the ice you want in one go, however I did mention above that I use giant cups, which I fill (past the brim) using two rounds. It takes less than a minute from start to finish: getting the ice cubes (i have ‘soft ice’ bc i have a countertop ice maker that sits directly next to this shaver for this purpose. Using ice from the freezer might make the process take longer, or allowing the ice to soften would of course take a bit of time), tossing them into the thingie, hitting the power button and pressing down on the lever before hitting the power button again, so ice doesn’t fly everywhere. Then snow cone do it again and I have ice enough to last me a good hour or so, with some meltage that I drink or just pour back into my ice maker once I’m ready for a refill. I’m nearing the time to change the blades or maybe adjust them, not sure yet, I’ll update on if it’s tricky or easy peasy.

I started my journey looking for an appliance that could make really good snow for slushies but I started looking in the wrong place - blenders. This was a huge mistake because they can crush ice but they can't get it to that fine snow-like quality without melting it.This appliance is the PERFECT solution for making shaved ice for beverages!! The shaved ice comes out in the perfect consistency and the appliance is EASY and SAFE to use.As other have stated, use a block of ice instead of ice cubes for best results. You can make ice blocks many different ways just make sure the size of the ice block can fit completely inside the mouth of the shaver because this appliance has a safety feature that doesn't allow the device to start shaving until the lid is sufficiently closed.The way I make mine is by throwing 1.5 liter bottle waters in the freezer and use a knife to chop them in threes once they're frozen. I first score the plastic around the bottle, where I want to cut the ice, and then lightly chop the bottle (like an axe against a tree trunk) to safely and slowly crack the ice. This works perfectly because the sides of the water bottle hold the ice in place making the perfect crack. I then cut the knife through the crack to completely separate the bottle into perfect sized chunks. These can be stored in the freezer until they are ready to use. Remove the plastic and whalla! You have a perfect ice block ready for shaving!One last thing to mention is the build quality of this thing is incredible and feels industrial strength. I've had mine for 8 months and use it a couple times a month. It is super sturdy and feels like a device that will last for years.

This machine absolutely beats the manual ice shaver I used to use. It does work great for shaving ice, it is very fast and does a very good job doing so. I tried making a solid block of ice using a solo cup and confirmed that this procedure will yield you a very smooth and snow like ice shaving.Just a couple of comments. 1: I had to ask for a replacement unit after receiving my order as the first one I received had a crack in the plastic body. Great that I bought it from AMZ so getting a replacement was no problem. 2: The machine is quite tricky to control. Turning it on is no problem, turn on the red button and move the lever to push the ice against the shaver. To turn it off, backing off the lever will not stop the machine until the ice is exposed which makes a mess. I've learned to turn off the red switch while slightly backing off on the the lever (keeping the ice covered). 3: The quality of workmanship is a bit rough. This is obviously a cheap Chinese knock-off with the corresponding low price. There are sharp corners on the aluminum casting, etc. On my second unit received there was something loose inside which apparently was an electrical component (a capacitor I think) that was just stuffed inside the housing and was not restrained. Ended up fixing it so it doesn't make noise and doesn't get disconnected.

Shaved ice slushies are so easy with this bad boy! Love it.

A person needs to be aware of the height required to lift the lever all the way up.

Makes shaved ice as fast as you can load it.Been using it for a few weeks already and its been a great experience. The build of the shaver is pretty hefty, you won't have to worry about it sliding around. It will firmly stay in place on a solid flat surface. It will take in almost any ice shape bearing that it fits. At most times, you can just rearrange the ice in order that it accepts it better. Note that it drips a lot of water and usually creates a pool of it around the ice shaver so be sure to have a towel at hand. It's also a bit of a hassle to make a lot of shaved ice in a bulk, the shaving ice plate is pretty small and fills up quickly.Overall I greatly recommend it especially for summers

My first purchase was for a different model and it didn't work at all and is being returned. This model had good reviews and I decided to take a chance on it. So glad I did! This works exactly as described. It is sturdy and efficient - making short work of ice cubes. Note- it shaves the ice, it doesn't crush. It's perfect for snow cones but still useable for drinks! Well worth the cost because this sturdy unit feels like it will last for years!

My family and I made shaved ice for a dessert called halo-halo and this was good. Very quick and powerful. Only 4 stars as you need to fill it full with ice to make a lot of shaved ice. Unfortunately once you get to the last of the ice, the machine spits out ice chunks vs the snowy shaved ice. Will try making bingsoo next!
