At some point in it's life, my iMac started to get a lot of spinning beach balls, Safari freezing, unable to run multiple application as it would cause complete freeze in that app and the most annoying was the Java Apps not loading. It's a 2008 that came with 2 MB of ram.So...after researching potential causes, the swapping and ram usage in Activity Monitor was the most compelling, the ram increase seemed to be the first and most popular fix.Don't remember what I paid, $52 and I think shipping was free for this product.Installation was super easy. The computer recognized it straight away. I noticed the beach ball continued several more times after and there was still some Safari freezing for a little bit, the Java issue has not happened since the increase.I cannot say with any certainty what was causing my computer to act the way it did, it could have been certain Apps, maybe upgrades from Apple and subsequent upgrades fixed it, or actually the low amount of ram.It seems to be running much better now. I can run multiple applications without them freezing, there have been significantly less episodes of other types of freezing and video contents even multiple videos seem to run fine, so it has helped my style of computing. The iMac has been a great computer for the 3+ years I have owned it, hope to hang on to it for another year as it serves my needs. This upgrade in memory has extended this for me. However, in the computing world, speed and processing power and the need for it seems to increase daily and a new computer is inevitable.Bottom line, if you have an older iMac and it seems to beach ball a lot, you can't run multiple apps without freezing and running video, especially multiple video is cause issues, then an increase in ram might be the ticket...if you have the capacity.

Saved Me a BUNDLE!
After upgrading my iMac operating system from the abandoned Leopard to Mountain Lion (10.8.2), my computer (iMac Early 2008) was so painfully slow that I really thought I needed a new one...not unexpected since my computer was four and a half years old, but that is not an expense that I wanted to face just now. Still, the spinning beach ball of death and the constant crashing of flash and shockwave were pretty hard to live with. It was even taking as much as 30 seconds to get my dashboard calculator to come up...I could get out my old handheld in that length of time (from the other room)! As luck would have it, I happened to overhear someone at the library talking about upgrading the memory on his old iMac. He was kind enough to tell me more about that, and I went right home and researched it (slowly...on my poor ol' Mac). Apple actually has VERY clear instructions for changing or upgrading memory on their support pages (supportdotappledotcom). I'd give you actual the URL, but you can't do that in Amazon reviews. Just know it's there...you'll find it. When you get to the support page, search for "remove and install memory", and it will guide you to complete instructions for your model. It is unbelievably easy!Next stop, Amazon, of course. Once I had the exact specifications for the memory that I needed to buy, I found it easily on Amazon's website. I was so relieved by the economical price. I ordered the memory I needed to upgrade from the 1GB of SDRAM that I had to 4 GB, installed it myself (soooooo easy, and I am NOT a techie), and now my sweet little iMac is behaving beautifully!Thank you to all the previous reviewers who gave me confidence to try this product! It is amazing!

4GB upgrade to Early 2008 iMac a complete success!
I had an early 2008 24" iMac and it was to the point it would barley run with the Yosemite upgrade which I had to do in order to update my Garmin GPS. The system had also slowed down and the spinning wheel of death would appear regularly. I uploaded a performance app and saw that my system was using all 2 GB of original Ram and it was also caching virtual memory from the hard drive. This was causing the very slow or system locking up issue. I decided to buy the 4 GB Kingston module (2+2) and upgrade the ram to see if that would help. One screw on the bottom removed, pulled both cards and installed the two new chipsets and the performance is markedly improved. Now the system is using up to 2.5 GB of Ram Memory and not using the hard drive at all so the spinning wheel of death is gone. Programs load faster and it seems web pages as well. Very happy with the results as we were contemplating buying a new iMac at $1k+ which wasn't a good option. I have seen 6 GB (4+2) that you can put in this machine as well but they were right at $150 and it didn't appear that most would benefit from an additional 2 GB of Ram with an older processor so I think the 4 GB upgrade is perfect for a 7 year old machine and for $45 it saved me from a new iMac as my run just fine now.

Great 4GB kit for mid 2009 Macbook
It took me a while to figure out which modules I needed but once I did (with help from people on Amazon as well as by brother), I ordered these and they arrived quickly and I installed them into my Macbook (mid-2009) A1181 13" white model 2.13 GHz Processor that was previously fitted with two 1GB DDR2 800MHz modules. Immediately recognized and working perfectly! Now I have 4GB of RAM and was able to upgrade the operating system to El Capitan. This was necessary since too many outfits were no longer supporting my old Snow Leopard OSx and its associated Safari browser which I could not update without updating the OS.These came packaged in an anti-static bag, and clear instructions for installing them can be readily found on line when you search for them--first place I found a demo was on Youtube and it's a breeze to do. I went with the Kingston brand as I've always had success with their SD cards for my camera etc. and I'm happy I did!

Very happy with this product.
I order this for my mid-2009 white MacBook (MacBook 5,2). My laptop had 2 gigs of RAM and had become very slow with OS updates to latest available for the model, OS X El Capitan. I placed the order on Nov 28, 2016 and received it on Dec 5th, 2016. After installing it I noticed a big difference in the performance of the laptop, everything is snappy like it hadn't been in years now. I upgraded the hard drive to an SSD too after seeing how much difference upgrading the RAM made. With the combo of more RAM and SSD my 7 year old laptop feels like a new laptop.I have not encountered any issues and everything works perfectly. I will recommend this to anyone looking to breathe new life in their aging hardware at a very reasonable price.

Works great in my 2008 IMAC desktop computer.
I bought these a while back to upgrade my 2008 IMAC. Fit perfectly, and to date, the computer is operating well with no issues. Nice inexpensive way to prolong the useful life of my aging computer (which is still working perfectly!)

Not happy!!
Could not return it because it was opened. How else would I know it was not the correct item for my computer? Seems senseless to me and I am out the cost of the item. Not happy!!!
