Good music stand
I lead a country music band, and have a couple of rather heavy books of music and lyrics on my stand all the time. In the past I've been using one of those chrome plated stands that you'd find in a school music supply store for under $20.00, but due to the amount of stuff I had on the stand, it would tip over easily, or the legs would slide out flat and lower the stand. The Gearlux stand is great. It has heavy duty construction, easy adjustments, it's easy to use, yet is lightweight. You cannot go wrong buying this stand.Edited October 2015: This was such a good music stand, I ordered another one. While the new one is still a pretty good stand, it's not as good as the one I ordered a couple years ago. The tubing of the tripod legs and the vertical tube is smaller diameter, and the attachment of the music rest to the vertical tube is not nearly as robust as the older stand. My music book is quite heavy, and this new stand just doesn't have the support of the same one from two years ago. This is still a good stand, but it was a great stand two years ago. I wish the manufacturer had raised the price a couple dollars rather than cheapen the product.

I've waited all my life for this great music stand!
I've always had the quick folding, thin, student music stands and two years ago splurged for this solid, stable and dependable music stand. I've waited all my life for this and love it. I use it every day, almost and although it is very easily portable, I just use it in my home. I think I'd buy another one if I wanted to take it with me to play with other people or workshops. Its the best. I bought a clamp-on accessory to hand my violin and bow from the post, just underneath the music sheet part of it and its made playing music so easy and instantaneous. It will NOT fall over unless you are the biggest klutz in the world or you large German Shepherd dog runs into it, but mine has never moved or threatened to become unbalanced, which is 100% better than music stands in the past. I bought the one with holes in the top piece, mostly to have less weight at the top.Perhaps some people are using brute strength when tightening knobs, but I just don't see how things would break if you tighten sensibly. Everything about it seems well made and will last decades. Now I'm looking to add a clamp-on shelf to the main post to keep my pencil and eraser for making notes on my music. I don't like storing pencils on the music shelf as it always gets lost under the music books. OH! I forgot to tell you that right now I have one 2" binder, two songbooks and one thick scale study book plus a wire-bound scale and arpeggio book on this one music stand and still there is lots more room because the shelf has a great wide bottom lip. So don't hesitate to book a bunch of music on there all at once. That is something I've never been able to do before and.... despite all the stuff on my music stand, it remains sturdy, totally sturdy.Buy this, if you love it half as much as I do, you'll be so happy.

Very Solid, Looks Great, Works Perfectly
I purchased this stand for my music studio, wanting to have a more sturdy music stand for my vocal students. I have one of the cheaper metal collapsible ones, and I really hate those, but they are nice for travel. This stand is perfect for my needs - I wanted one that was sturdy, easy to adjust and that would work well in-studio. I don't plan to take this out of the studio often, but I think it is portable enough when I do need to. Yes, the top doesn't collapse, but that is worth sacrificing for having a far better stand.I was impressed by the quality and sturdiness of the product. It is very well built and solid and I was very pleased. I purchased the solid-top as opposed to the version with holes as I didn't want to worry about music corners getting caught in the holes. I'm glad I did. It is not that heavy, even without the holes to lighten it. Obviously, I can't compare as I don't have the two. This looks great in my studio and I'm very pleased with the purchase. Can hold several books without issue, easy to adjust, goes far taller than I need it (I am 5' 7") so I would assume it would work well for taller individuals as well.Overall, VERY pleased. (Also, it arrived quite quickly, despite the estimated arrival being a week later than I actually received it - nice!).

Good Value, but BEWARE of possible hazard to pets and small kids!
Overall, this is a nice, sturdy stand and a great value for the money. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because there needs to be a warning label or sticker regarding the hazard of a pet or child sticking their head or arm though the bottom portions and having the stand collapse on them. Our inquisitive 9 month old puppy stuck her head through one of the lower openings and apparently pulled back, causing the stand to collapse on her and trap her head while squeezing her neck in an impossible to withdraw vise. I never heard such a terrorized shriek. I ran into the room to see the stand lying prone with her neck in a vise grip as it has closed on her throat. My husband helped open it up while I held her thrashing body as stationary as possible. I actually don't think I could have gotten her out alone if my husband hadn't been home, she would have suffocated or broken her neck trying to get out. So, I wrapped a clear, thick plastic around the bottom of the stand and securely taped it so she could never get in there again. Problem solved. But I felt it was important to warn buyers to do the same if they have pets or kids.

Great music stand
Great music stand, solid construction nice finish and an ample shelf to place music.I'd consider this a steal and would expect to pay twice as much as I did pay.Replaced a flimsy, folding 40 year old music stand that was quite inadequate.Good find Amazon!
