So much fun!
The spider Shelob and the small stone structure are easy to assemble, but very fun. Sherlob functions well, the string used as webbing is easy to retract back into the spider, the mechanism very simple yet effective. The minifigures are a wonderful trio to have in such a well priced set, this one being the only Lord of the Rings set featuring Sam as well, I believe. A lot of fun to play with or display, whatever suits your fancy. Overall, not a single complaint. :)There are also extra pieces, rings, swords, etc. Frodo and Sam, similar to other figures, have two faces. Just one head you spin around to see the other expression. They can be seen in the photos of the box.

Shelob will attack your heart
This is a seriously must-own set. For starters, this is a 227 piece set priced at the MSRP $19.99 (amazon.com sells at MSRP, unless you catch it on discount; this is actually a GOOD thing since many retailers, including Toys R Us, mark-up LEGO sets by 5-10%--yes, even in their brick & mortar stores!) If we go by the generally agreed-upon guideline amongst LEGO fans for determining the value of a set (the price per piece inside a given box), this set clocks in at just under $0.09 per piece which is fantastic. $0.10 is the price you look for to know you're getting a good amount of bricks for the money, so we are within bargain territory here--however, do keep in mind that this set is primarily made up of small pieces, which does impact the price. While price is always a consideration, what's always most important is what you get. Again, you shouldn't be disappointed as this set recreates one of the most iconic moments from the Lord of the Rings trilogy-- Frodo and Sam's encounter with Shelob the spider at Cirith Ungol. You get Samwise Gamgee (so far exclusive to this set) with sword and the Phial of Galadriel, Frodo Baggins with Sting and The One Ring, Gollum (also exclusive!) with a fish, some terrain and the eight-legged Shelob, last daughter to Ungoliant. It's a great combination of characters and a must-have for any LEGO LotR fan.Shelob comes complete with adjustable legs and abdomen as well as a really cool retractable web attached to an internal gear system. The web has a hook at the end making it easy to hang the spider if you like, or use the string to wrap up Frodo, just as the scene in the books/films portrayed. Frodo has a cool 2nd face (just turn the head around) for when he is in "stung" mode.All-in-all it's a fun set to build, should take about 25 minutes for experienced LEGO fans, a bit longer for kids. You have to piece all 8 legs together as well as tie the string to the hook and wheel, so make sure you have no problems tying thin string or you could get frustrated. :)My box came with not one but THREE One Rings (wonder what THAT movie would have been like), an extra Sting sword, an extra Gollum arm and a few other misc spare pieces. Yay, free pieces!

Great Set, Cool Figures, Not too Expensive
This set hits a sweet-spot of great figures, accessories, and fun building. Not all of the LotR sets pull that off in my opinion, but this one was all-around worth the money. Not too expensive, you get Sam, Frodo, Gollum, and Shelob. It's fun to put this one together, without being very tricky. A lot of cool atmosphere for this franchise.I would recommend this for sure. It's big enough to be a good gift, without being so expensive that you might avoid it.

Awesome set!
This is the second least expensive Lord of the Rings Lego set. It is pretty awesome. It comes with Sam, Frodo, and Gollum. Oh yeah, and Shelob.Years ago, I got a Lego Harry potter Set that included "Aragog" a similar giant spider. I can speak from experience, lego designs have vastly improved. Shelob is amazing. she even has web that retracts and extends using gears.Frodo and Sam have two different faces. It's not a spare head, two faces on one head. How does this work, you ask? The hair covers the other head and you can turn it around for the other one. Hobbit lego figure's legs don't move. Same with the Gollum figure. The weakest part of this set is the "scenery" part included. it is supposed to launch Smeagle, and it work but not very well.I recommend this set. It is pretty fun, and not that expensive.9/10

A Well Received Christmas Present!
Legos aren't cheap, and sets like this are usually reserved for a special occasion-birthday, Christmas, etc.I'm not sure how it happened, but my 8 year old has become enamored with Tolkien-especially the movies and the Lego Sets. He spotted this one at our local Target, but Amazon simply had a better price. Now, on to the set. Some of the smaller sets need more nimble fingers that our 8 year old has, but this set was just right! He needed some help with the spider, but for the most part he was able to easily decipher the instructions, and we had fun putting it together on Christmas morning. Between the two of us, it took about 20 minutes to completely assemble. All the pieces fit together properly, and the spider's legs move easily, a fact my son likes as he has fun posing it while playing with his other sets.He loves the little hobbit figures that came with it, and displays them proudly with his other Lego figures.Love The Hobbit and LOTR sets...can't wait to purchase more!

Only For The Hardcore Fans
I purchased this set only for Samwise and gollum. But, this was a very nice scene in the movie. The bad part was that the set doesn't do a good job building the spider. The spider's legs are difficult to move and the "web feature it has is just annoying and often gets tangled. If you are a hardcore lord of the rings fan, definitely buy this before it becomes retired and overpriced. This is because Frodo's face is exclusive i believe and Sam is exclusive too.
