This novella captivated me and was such a fantastic read
”Because I want you only, Lilith. Whatever of you I can have. I’ll take one night. One hour. One minute. Whatever you want to give me. I’ll have it.”It’s impossible not to get lost in Carissa’s lyrical writing. I am convinced after this novella; she could publish her grocery list and I’ll treasure it forever. She has completely taken over my thoughts and the way this series has consumed my entire being. After finishing The Serpent and The Wings of Night I was left wanting more in the best way to find myself back in this world. This has exceeded all my expectations and then some. In just mere 170 pages I was able to live all the emotions and the feelings possible. I cried, I laughed, I got angry and swooned hard. Truthfully novellas are something I tend to not gravitate towards as sometimes they could feel like fillers. I have never been happier to be proven otherwise. Not only did these two got great arcs but the development of the plot left me craving for more. This was a beautifully written love letter to us filled with moments I will forever cherish.Lilith was truly a wonderful, complex yet so well-rounded FMC. She is curious, brave, and her drive for wanting to find the cure is truly inspiring. She is not afraid to stand up for those who she loves and cares for and her interactions with her sister truly made me tear up. She approaches things with logic and I appreciated a lot the fact that she was not your typical heroine. How she fought for Vale’s life was EVERYTHING. Lilith is someone who everyone needs to experience.”I realized that it was the stare of a scientist, someone used to analysing things and taking them apart. A little spark of relief came with this realization. Because that, at least, was something I understood. Maybe Vale and I were worlds apart in every way—human and vampire, lord and peasant, near-immortal and pitifully ephemeral—but if we had that, it was already more than I had in common with most of the people I’d grown up with.”Vale, Good Lord where has this dreamy and divine man been my entire life. In just a few pages in I was utterly captivated by his charismatic, mysterious and alluring self. I fell for him hard and fast. His willingness to share, well everything he has and knows with Lilith made my heart flip flop and my insides melt just a little. I know men written by Carissa does not disappoint but to have the same effect as it would if I was to read a full length novel shows how much if a master she is at her craft. I guess I really am a vampire girl through and through!! I know I said this time and time again but handwritten letters and forehead touches are my love language and this filled my cup right up with this.”Whatever you need. My blood. My books. My knowledge. Anything. It is yours."Honestly, this is one of the BEST Beauty and the Beast retellings I had the absolute pleasure of reading in a long time. I am so happy that I got to experience these two and their journey and cannot wait to reunite with them all soon.Thank you for this perfect escape Carissa, your words are truly special and have too much of a power over me. And yes I pretty much highlighted this entire novella! Seriously pick this series up and let is become your new obsession.”The roses were special.”I smiled a little. “You finally noticed.”“They never died.”

Cute as a Button… 🥰🥰🥰
I must say The Crowns Of Nyaxia was really entertaining. This little quick read/listen was so absolutely cute & precise. I just fell for this couple. They were just my kind of perfect. It gives us insight into who Val actually is, as we know who he was according to Ruihn in book #2 & also as to why Ruihn was so iffy about him for falling in-love with not only a human woman but, also converting her to the Vampiric lifestyle. This book answers that crucial question so beautifully. I caught this on Audible and loved it. Four Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟 as it was “short” even though beautiful novella, hence I dropped a star. Otherwise it would’ve been a full-house.Happy reading. 💕

Absolutely phenomenal!
Am I rating a 187 page novella 5 stars? Yes, yes I am because IT DESERVES IT! This was phenomenal. Carissa's writing never fails to hook me instantly. It's so beautiful, eloquent and the imagery is vivid, while at the same time being so easy to read and understand.I don't know how she managed to make this short novella feel like a full on novel. The characters have so much depth, you understand them, you feel their connection and for such a short book, it's pretty slow burn. The plot is intriguing and I loved being back in this world especially with all the mentions we get of Obitraes and what's happening there... IYKYK!Lilith's character is one of the best FMC I've ever read about before. She's pragmatic with how she approaches life but it's fueled by passion and curiosity. She's beautiful, selfless, strong and just overall an incredible FMC and without a doubt a new favourite of mine!Don't get me started on Vale... oof. I fell completed head over heals with him and the way he treated Lillith, *chef's kiss*. What a stunning man! The care taking, the pining, tension and angst, the spice... AMAZING!"Because I want only you, Lillith. Whatever of you I can have. I'll take one night. One hour. One minute. Whatever you want to give me. I'll have it." - ValeI will literally devour anything Carissa writes! Highly recommend.

It's a super sweet read.
“You’ve spent your whole damned life dying, Lilith. Now you’ve gotten that out of the way, and you get to go live.”

novella from the human world
This was an ok novella about Lilith a dying girl who lives in a town cursed by the gods and she hopes she can get lord vale, a reclusive vampire to help. It wasn’t my favourite storyI loved the vampire but wasn’t keen on her.It seemed contradictory with vibes I dunno just didn’t read right for me at timesIt got good 60% in with some tension and the rest was enjoyable which bumped it up to a 3* for meWill be interesting to see if any of the characters appear in the next book

Incredible fantasy with rich world building, smart pacing and well crafted prose!
Another 5-star read for me! Broadbent strikes again. After finishing Book 1 in Carissa Broadbent's Crowns of Nyaxia series, I was excited but also slightly nervous to jump into this novella story, which is meant to be read in between books 1 and 2. I enjoy novellas but given the richness of the world Broadbent created in book 1, I wondered if a shorter form style would work well. All I can say is, it 100% DELIVERED and Broadbent once again blew me away.In Six Scorched Roses, we are introduced to Lilith, a human woman whose entire life has been overshadowed by death and the knowledge that her time in this world is limited and uncertain. However, Lilith uses the cruelty of her harsh reality to fuel a tenacity to make her life count and work to save those in her village, including her younger sister, who are being ravaged by a disease at the hands of a spiteful and neglectful god.Lilith's singular focus to find a cure brings her to the doorstep of Vale, a recluse vampire, whose curious nature and inherent thirst for knowledge draw her in, almost from the start. Lilith bargains her only possession of value, six eternal living roses, in exchange for Vale's blood. With time against her, Lilith's frantic research to tap into the magic of Vale's blood accelerates. Yet as Lilith and Vale spend more time together, they come to find a quiet understanding and respect for each other and an attraction that becomes too intense to ignore. Ultimately, however, their actions do not go unnoticed and a price must be paid if the lives of Lilith's community are to be saved.Broadbent crafts an incredible story with prose whose description leaves you reeling and feeling emotionally gutted. She also has a beautiful way of setting up juxtaposition and counterpoints that are delicately woven throughout the story as the ultimate conflict between life and death sits at the very core of this world. The novella structure of this book lent itself perfectly to the pace of the story and actually tied seamlessly to Lilith's one major challenge--the lack of enough time. The way that Vale and Lilith's relationship so quickly evolves makes perfect sense within the context of this book because again they are both conscious of their limited time together and it made for refreshing honesty and directness in how they revealed themselves to each other and communicated their feelings. This book can be read as a standalone but if you have read book 1 of the Crowns of Nyaxia series, there are a lot of wonderful easter eggs and connections that set up what may be to come in book 2. Without giving away any key spoilers, in particular, Vale's history with the House of Night and his perspective on what is happening politically in this universe was also something that I really enjoyed. I have to say that I may have even liked this book ands its characters more than those in book 1 and I really appreciated how Broadbent gave us such distinct personalities in Lilith and Vale. Broadbent has made a fan out of me and I cannot wait to dive into Book 2 and see what has been happening in the House of Night, since the absolute shocking cliffhanger from Book 1. If you have not read this series and love fantasy that has rich world building, incredible character development, smart pacing and well crafted prose, check this out...it will NOT disappoint.

Sweet With A Bitter Bite
“You want more than I can give you,” I whispered. “I can’t imagine that ever being true,” he murmured. “Because I want only you, Lilith. Whatever of you I can have. I’ll take one night. One hour. One minute. Whatever you want to give me. I’ll have it.”Oh look, I've fallen in love with another one of Carissa's fictional couples.Vale and Lilith have quickly climbed the ranks as two of my favourite characters. For 170 pages, this novella reads like a full-length novel. The storytelling that Carissa Broadbent was able to pack into such a small book only further proves her incredible talent. Fans of The Serpent and the Wings of Night and The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King will want to pick this up, especially if they were as intrigued in Vale as I was.Carissa Broadbent can have all my stars at this point, because this one gets another 5/5✨. It’s sweet with a bitter bite ;)

Amazing epic novella
Given that I rated books 1 and 2 of this series (Crowns of Nyaxia) 3 stars, I did not expect to like this novella so much.Lilith and Vale are introduced in book 2 and I was curious about them as soon as we saw them and I loved this novella. The author's writing style fits this format really well in my opinion. Thanks to her short and to-the-point sentences, she makes us immediately attached to Lilith. Staying on her single point of view made me immediately curious about Vale and what could be going on in his head during each (and between) of Lilith's visits. The theme of the roses she brings him in exchange for his blood to study was very poetic and symbolic and seeing their relationship deepen and become more and more intimate with each visit was amazing. This heartbreaking twist and this beautiful ending really appealed to me and really ended the story of Lilith and Vale well (even if I still wanted more).I actually recommend you to read this volume between books 1 and 2 of The Crowns of Nyaxia (which I was not motivated to do and ultimately regretted).A real gem that, for me, surpasses the rest of the series and the Oraya/Raihn couple.
