I've been using a $5 manual tread depth gauge for years with good results. My aging eyes coupled with the gadget lover in me resulted in the purchase of this digital gauge. Somehow Amazon's AI knew I wouldn't be able to resist when a suggestion popped up while I was shopping for something else.The unit powered up and was instantly ready to go. I measured 3 places (inside, middle, outside) on all 4 tires of both of our vehicles. I reset and zeroed the gauge after every reading. Given the sensitivity of the gauge, you need to be careful as to how you reset the gauge after taking a reading. I was resetting on the garage floor with a variance of about .02". Part of this is likely the variation in the concrete and dirt on the floor. The gauge has a zero button, which zeroes the gauge so you can start each reading with .000". I don't have any instruments to test the accuracy of this gauge; however, I'm more interested in picking up differential wear on my tires. I believe this gauge is sufficiently accurate and repeatable to meet my needs. I have no regrets spending less than $20 to make my life a little easier.

I have always been obsessed with maintaining proper tire inflation, and adjusting inflation according to wear. I can’t remember the last time I replaced tires due to wear, instead dry rot has always been the issue. My PSI adjustments have previously been based on visual, not measured observations. Since I now have a Tesla, known to eat tires, I decided to make more precise measurements of tread wear, and more precise PSI adjustments. This tool was an excellent choice. It is accurate and requires only an initial zeroing before measuring multiple treads on all four tires. It measures in 32nds of an inch as well as providing metric and decimal results. It is also very easy to read. As I have always done, I will continue to increase PSI if the edges are worn more than the center, and decrease PSI if the center is worn more than the edges. I can also determine more accurately whether all tires are wearing equally, which could be affected by alignment or balancing issues.

Literally never worked, not even first try it will never read accurately. It is always glitching out and giving improper responses.
