These things are essential if you use the rail system. The way the saws work, you need the best part of a 24cm run in and 12cm run out out of the material so that the saw is guided as accurately as possible. That means you need a rail that is about 36cm longer than whatever you are cutting. The largest rail DeWalt makes is 2.6m and with the lead in and out, it will cut about 2.2m. You need this joint and an additional 30cm or so of for 2.4m sheets. I have a 2.6m rail, a 1.5m rail and a 1.5m rail that I cut in two with a mitre saw to make a 1m rail and a 0.5m rail. I am covered for just about everything!! I bought the 2.6m before I realised that it's not long enough for 2.4m sheeting. Another oddity is that you require a 3mm hex key to tighten the adapter up, but one isn't provided. When the bar arrives, first thing you must do is check it is absolutely straight. Because of the way they work, they just aren't going to work if they are even slightly bent. Recommended but expensive for what they are.

This joiner is not fit for purpose. It's half the thickness as what's needed . I bought the correct joiner now from a reputable builders merchant and the old saying a tight fit is a good fit rings true and the real joiner was alot cheaper . The joiner I ordered will be getting sent back . This will be my first return to amazon.
