BRILLIAND AND EASY TO SET_UP AND USE
This is the second similar machine that I have purchased; my daughter ‘borrowed’ the original to take to university. In the past I have had bad experiences with printers; I have tried a few HP and Epson. The family tends to need to print intermittently; I have found that with other printers they clog-up if left unused. This Canon does not appear to suffer from this problem. Yes, the ink refills are on the expensive side but as we do not use it too often that is a small price to pay to have a printer ready when you need it.I have a devil of a job setting up the wi-fi on the earlier model, but now Canon have really got their act together and setting up is very easy via their on-line tools, I had to configure five PC’s and three tablets and it all worked seamlessly.

Great printer for the price
I was a bit reluctant ordering this printer, because from the other reviews I was worried I wouldn't be able to set it up properly. I'm not especially techie and have a layman's grasp of terminology. However, I was really pleased to be able to get it all up and running first time for my laptop AND phone without any issues at all. There's a step-by-step diagram sheet and I followed that for the hardware set up. It basically involved taking off orange stickers and plastic bits and plugging the printer in. The CD it's supplied with has an easy walkthrough for the software and getting connected to wifi. I used the WPS button on my router and that was that!Connecting to the phone was easy too, I just downloaded a free app and it automatically found the printer. The print quality isn't bad at all for home office use. I printed a photo from my phone and made the mistake of not selecting the right size paper in the printer (A4 copy paper) but second time it worked great. The printer and scanner functions are also straightforward. It's fairly quiet in action too.Overall, I'm really pleased for the price. I'm not sure how long the printer cartridges will last, they're not the cheapest (but compatible ones might be more cost effective) and that's why I've not given it a full 5 stars.

Very much a budget printer
This is basic and very noisy in operation. There is no screen to show what you are doing. The paper tray is 3/4 outside the machine which makes it untidy but it is cheap and the printing of paper documents is OK. I just wish the marketing of printers was different. I can't justify spending any more money on a printer as they only seem to last about a year then a fault code comes up and although the thing is basically OK you are locked out. In the meantime you pay through the nose for ink - it does not make sense to me.

I Like it.
Taking a wee bit of getting used to, after my Pixma MP610 finally gave up the ghost after 8 long years of hard labour. The scanning / editing software is very good.Really haven't had much chance to play around with it yet…Quick, fairly quiet when printing, good quality print - on plainer papers I have used so far - not had time to try the glossy photo papers yet but am expecting good results. This one doesn't automatically open the 'done-door' for you - it just flashes the amber light on top, and took me ages to remember to open the wee door after I had put paper in!Also - the 'paper-catcher' has to be unfolded completely, or it lands on the floor!I am used to the sheet feeder at the back, so needing to re-think where I keep this one as the paper loads at the front, where the sheets come out too.I like it.

MG3550 "Google Print Ready" device .... REALLY ???????????????
Why just "one star" ... when its an absolutely excellent printer? Lets start with it "being excellent". With a Windows PC install, its brilliant. Installed like a dream (I'm on Windows 10) and everything works. 100% satisfaction. But that's not why I bought it. I bought it because it was described as "Google Print Ready" and I wanted it to use with my HP ChromeBox with its Google Chrome operating system. And , would it work? NO NO NO. It took me two days to get it to finally work as a "Google Print Ready" device and exhausted every bit of technical knowledge that I had to achieve that. Only by finally providing my home network IP address for the MG3550 and using a little known Canon install procedure that I found on the internet, did I manage to achieve what Canon should provide in a easy to use non-technical utility for .... customers who want to use this MG3550 printer as a "Google Print Ready" device on a HP ChromeBox. So, no thanks to Canon and no thanks to HP from an otherwise very pleased Canon and HP customer. I'm just surprised to see that no Chromebox users have purchased this little gem of a printer to hang onto their home network to use as a "Google Print Ready" device. To wind up, its a brilliant little printer working superbly under Windows 10. Also, if you've got an old Ipad and are still on IOS 5.1.1 and need to print from that rather than buying a new Ipad with IOS 7 or IOS 8 (because thats what you need to use the free Canon print utilities on Itunes) , just purchase PrintCentral Pro off Itunes ... just £5.99 .... and it prints like a dream!!!!
