Greenkey 664 Solitary Bee and Wasp House - Brown

This is a good budget product if you wish to do some upcycling to make it what you want. First inspection makes me confused as to why the triangular bit is even there. The holes are too small, look bodged and it's actually hollow (i.e there is a big area behind the holes where spiders will undoubtedly make residence. This is not shown in the product images, so is pretty misleading. The bamboo cane holes are okay, though some have been cut by the knot, and frankly makes them redundant from the off. Will probably drill through the knots as should have been done in the manufacture. The roof has been treated in some green powder paint (it's already reacting with the air and coming off like crayon). To make this a better product, treat the outside of the house to make it weather proof. Ideally use a bee friendly treatment such as a wax stain.

Unfortunately this bee hotel is no longer ‘open for vacancies’! After only 6 weeks the wood is damp and going rotten (photo attached) Also the pieces that have been put together to form the hotel are coming apart, (photo attached) it’s poorly made. If it had been hanging outside for a few years I’d expect it to show signs of weathering, but this is ridiculous it’s been hanging outside for just over a month - no bees have had a chance to move in! If they had started to use it they wouldn’t have lasted long, bee hotels are meant to keep solitary bee larvae safe! They wouldn’t have had a chance in this thing! My garden has been planted to attract pollinators, hence wanting to add the ‘hotel’! If you’re looking to add a bee hotel don’t bother with this one ... scroll past and keep looking!

Possibly the best and most affordable bee "condo" that I've got so far. Why? Excellent finish and by this I mean the bamboo tubes and the smaller "wasp" holes. Nearly / nearly all of them are clean and without stray splinters sticking into the tubes. These splinters are often what deter bees from using the tubes - they get stuck !With care and without using any preservatives, they should last 2 maybe 3 seasons if sheltered from the winter weather - or put in a shed etc over winter and back in the garden before / before it gets too warm. End March maybe?

Really good value. I have a couple of Bee Hotels already and thought that my little solitary bees could do with some more rooms.I put this up on the same fence and within an hour of it being installed, I had visitors inspecting and moving in. The bees are using it, and I am looking forward to seeing lots of little bees flying out of their new accommodation.**Update - one of my bee hotels has been closed. Due to woodpecker damage. Think the only thing that would keep that away would be steel plates all over it!

Terrible do not buy!The product is not weather proof, after the first rain shower the roof warped pulling out the tiny tacks holding it on, resulting in the box falling to the ground, more rainfall has expanded the wooden sides. Real shame as the bees had started to nest in it!

OK quality for what I paid. The bees seemed to prefer our older bee box.Some wildlife charities recommend replacing the used tubes after they hatch as they can contain dead bees and mites, but at this price it would be easier and cheaper to just throw the old one away and buy another.Looks better when painted with Cuprinol.

Arrived broken, roof off and hanging point missing a screw so was detached. We fixed it as less bother than returning but its bad when you buy something new and its sent out in that state.

I have always wanted to do my bit for wildlife without having a tip for a garden... I think this product really compliments the average garden without making you look too much like a tree hugger!I personally want to paint it to match the fence colour but too scared incase the paint is toxic to future inhabitants.
